Katherine Heigl’s Message to Her Daughter Is a Lesson for All of Us
Talk about inspiring young minds: Katherine Heigl has been pretty relaxed about being in the public eye since becoming a parent. Along with her husband, the couple have adopted two daughters and recently had a third baby boy. While her career has definitely taken a back seat to her family life, she’s been a vocal supporter of women’s rights, and in a recent post about her daughter in celebration of her birthday, it’s clear that she’s raising her kids with a subtle but inspiring feminist bend.
In an Instagram post, the actress thanks her daughter for being, “sassy, fiery…whip smart,” and “fiercely loyal.” In and of itself, these are amazing qualities for anyone to have, but what makes this post special is that Heigl doesn’t once mention her daughter’s looks, which tends to be the go-to when people compliment little girls.
While it might seem like a no-brainer, it’s always important to remember that what we say to our kids inspires them beyond childhood. It’s a nice reminder that women and girls shouldn’t be valued based on our looks, but on the quality of ourselves as people.
It’s clear that Heigl and her husband are raising smart, capable children, and they make sure that their kids are respected for who they are, not what they look like.
