Lorde Just Said the Weirdest Thing About Her Friendship With Taylor Swift
Being friends with Taylor Swift definitely comes with benefits, like birthday revelries taken to new heights (literally), star-studded celebrations, and (obvs) an invite to her famous Fourth of July weekend bash. But being besties with one of the most famous folks on the planet also has some quirks. Just ask Lorde, who recently said the weirdest thing about her friendship with Swift.
Hanging out with Taylor Swift is like “having a friend with an autoimmune disease,” at least, according to Lorde. Giving the insider info to The Guardian, the “Green Light” singer revealed that it can be hard to navigate the world when Swift is by your side.
“It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies,” she explained. “There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship.” While those with allergies have to avoid places that might trigger their bods, Swift has to avoid places where her presence might trigger an overly excited fan-fueled riot. While fame and fortune might open some doors, it seems like it also closes others.
Though this quote seems to acknowledge mostly the challenges of their friendship, Lorde also revealed why the friendship is so important to her, saying, “It’s an element of [famous people] wanting to stick together. Because it can be so scary to do this. These friendships, they’re about having a hand put on your shoulder by someone who knows. They’re about hearing, ‘I’ve done it too.’”
We may not be famous, but we totally get the need to have a friend or two who understands what we’re going through.
