This Computer Makes You Work Out to Use It
In the time it takes to write an article on Brit + Co, the only kind of sweat we’re breaking is a mental one. We try to keep our bodies active even while we’re working by taking breaks, using standing desks and even sitting on the occasional balancing ball, but if we had this punching bag computer, we’d be Channing Tatum chiseled by now.
Desiree Heiss and Ines Kaag of Bless Studio are putting treadmill desks to shame with their installation of the workoutcomputer. It has an individual punching bag for each letter. To type, you shout out a word, then go punch it out letter by letter, bag by bag. The shapes of the bags vary from letters on small speed bags to punctuation on large, heavy bags. Sitting all day at a laptop can put you at risk for carpal tunnel, but typing a story out on this keyboard is only going to put you at risk of having bulging biceps and a killer six pack.
Sure, the workoutcomputer makes typing out a story take a little longer, but who cares if you’re over deadline as long as you’re getting in a great workout, right? Right? If you’re in Istanbul, you can see this installation in person and even try it out for yourself at the Istanbul Design Biennial.
But would you seriously work out on the workoutcomputer? Let us know what you think in the comments!
