Venus in Retrograde Means It’s Time to Refocus on Love
We’re all well aware that Mercury retrograde is the WORST. Delayed flights, broken phones, and miscommunications at work can make life a cosmic nightmare. But Mercury’s path isn’t the only retrograde to worry about. The other planets in our solar system also go retrograde, and those perceived backwards rotations bring about their own sets of earthly annoyances. In fact, it’s actually super rare that all planets are direct at the same time. Venus is up next, in retrograde from March 6 until April 15. We chatted with our favorite cosmic goddess, Ambi Sitham, on just what Venus retrograde means for our relationships (with our baes and ourselves).
Venus’ vibe is all about love and beauty, baby
“Venus is all about love, beauty, romance, and riches — basically, she rules everything we value,” Sitham says of the goddess’s most powerful attributes. Sitham says playing nice with Venus starts by simply loving yourself. “All Venus’s qualities are linked,” Sitham explains, “so if you love yourself, it follows that you’ll attract an S.O. who loves you for you, and you’ll have the confidence in your work to ask for a raise or promotion.” Basically, all Venus wants to do is shower you with beauty, but you’ve got to be willing to call yourself beautiful first (pretty sound life advice, we think).
venus retrograde run down
So what does it mean for us when Venus is in retrograde? Simply put: “Love is also in retrograde,” Sitham says. This means that “matters of the heart will bubble up; either existing problems will rise to the surface, or you’ll suddenly feel like you’ve got to reevaluate your relationship.” But Sitham assures us this is totally a good thing. “Now’s the time to review what you really want out of your life, your relationships, and your work,” she says.
“Think about your self-worth, your value, and what you value” while Venus is in retrograde, Sitham suggests. For example, you may tell yourself you value commitment in a partner, but you’ve been dating someone for five years who won’t commit. Venus retrograde is nudging you to “clear up this bad relationship karma,” so that you can receive what you deserve. “Venus is all about receiving, whether it’s love, money, worth, or value,” which makes Venus in retrograde all about reviewing how we currently foster those things in our lives.
don’t act On Your Thoughts
Sitham reassures us this doesn’t mean we’re all going to break up with our S.O.’s immediately and die lonely. In fact, she suggests waiting until Venus retrograde is over before making any major decisions. That means no breakups, engagements, marriages, dating, or even plastic surgery or wardrobe overhauls until April 16!
“Venus rules beauty, so when Venus isn’t direct, your image isn’t direct,” Sitham explains. So while you may think switching from an all-black wardrobe to a print-infused one is a good idea during retrograde, once it turns direct you’re going to wonder WTF you were thinking. As Sitham puts it, “I can see clearly now the retrograde is gone.”
The summer of love is on its way
With all that said, once May rolls around, Sitham says we’re in for “the summer of love,” when we’ll all be feeling much more content with ourselves and our relationships. It’ll be a summer of meaningful connection and mojo for us all. And if you’re single? Summer’s the time to slip on that sundress and hit up the dog park, astrologically speaking.
