SAG Award Nominations Give Us Our First Glimpse of Oscar Season
Happy SAG Award nominations day! The nominees for the 22nd annual film and TV awards were announced first thing this morning and we’re reading through for more than just forecasting who will wear what on the red carpet. This award show is a good predictor for who we can expect to get an Oscar nod later on this season. And this year’s list is truly one to keep an eye on!
In the leading role category, usually-funny first timer Sarah Silverman (nominated for her critically acclaimed dramatic turn as Lainey Brooks in I Smile Back) will find herself up against the timelessly cool Helen Mirren (Woman in Gold).Dame Helen scored not one but TWO noms, both for her leading role inWoman in Gold and another for her supporting role as Hedda Hopper inTrumbo.
Since many members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are also members of the Screen Actors Guild, there typically tends to be a fair bit of overlap between the two respective awards. So, if you and your galpals are gearing up for your totally-not-ruthless annual Oscar betting pool, you might want to pay close attention to this year’s nominations list and awards ceremony.
Other nominees include Irish glam girlsSaoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) and Rooney Mara (Carol), our imaginary BFF Rachel McAdams (Spotlight), the secretly hilarious Cate Blanchett (Carol), and social media regulator Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs). The winners will get announced at the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony on January 30, 2016.
