How to DIY the Perfect Cheeseboard

Apparently I’ve been living under a rock, because I didn’t know Whole Foods had a coffee bar. After seeing their Brown Butter Cookie Latte on my TikTok scroll no less than probably 50 times, I was equally shocked and excited to learn that you can get Whole Foods espresso on-the-go. The iced latte went ballistically viral because its price rivals that of Starbucks or your local spot by a couple dollars – a true win in times of shrinkflation. I’m *all for* grubbing on a budget, so the drink (though I have yet to try it) is already Meredith-approved.

What does the Whole Foods Brown Butter Cookie Latte taste like?

Though cheap, is the Whole Foods Brown Butter Cookie Latte *actually* yummy? The internet is divided. While others are saying it’s way too sweet, some report that it tastes like… nothing. This discrepancy could be attributed to the fact that no two Whole Foods stores are the same (at least in my experience), and the baristas could be making the latte differently across states. Nonetheless, I’ve landed on a very important inside scoop from one of the Whole Foods latte-makers themselves!

What's actually in the Whole Foods Brown Butter Cookie Latte?

TikTok user and Whole Foods barista, Madeline, recently spilled the beans (ha!) on what *exactly* goes into the Brown Butter Cookie Latte – and it’s hilariously easy to make at home. Contrary to what you’d think, the latte doesn’t actually have brown butter in it. It’s crafted from a mix of pumpkin and caramel syrup that work together for that deliciously buttery taste. Who would’ve thought? Not I.

She details that Whole Foods coffee bars use the 1883 Maison Routin brand of syrups to make their drinks. Of the fantastic flavors they offer (pistachio! Lychee! blueberry muffin!), the pumpkin spice and caramel syrups can be purchased online for around $9 each. From there, you can be on your way to Brown Butter Cookie Latte heaven.

How To Make The Whole Foods Brown Butter Cookie Latte At Home

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 espresso shots
  • 8 oz cold milk, of your choice
  • 1 handful of ice
  • 2 pumps pumpkin spice syrup
  • 1 pump caramel syrup (Some reports differ, but the ratio of syrup to make the heralded latte is 2 pumps of pumpkin spice to one pump caramel. If you like your latte on the sweeter side, you can double the amount – or play around with different numbers of pumps.)

Directions:

  1. Using an at-home espresso machine, moka pot, or Aeropress (basically any device that can make strong coffee), pull 1-2 shots of espresso into a small cup.
  2. While your espresso is pouring, mix the syrup and cold milk together in a tall glass.
  3. Once finished, pour your espresso shots into the tall glass and stir.
  4. Top off with ice, and your latte is complete!

You can't spell mystery without Agatha Christie books, and we're here to definitively prove it. She's written well over 50 books — some of which have been adapted into star-studded movies and TV series — so she knows what it takes to get readers excited to solve fictional crimes. And while it may sound cliché, most of her work can give true crime podcastsa run for their money. There are twists, turns, and everything in between when it comes to Agatha's winding works! If you don't believe us, we invite you to get comfy so you can immerse yourself in the world of the most popular Agatha Christie books ever! You won't be sorry you did — you just might be on the edge of your seat when it's all said and done.

Murder on the Orient Express

It's no surprise that Murder on the Orient Express tops our list of popular Agatha Christie Books. Not only is it full of suspense where anyone could be the murder suspect, but it was also turned into major motion picture that was produced by Ridley Scott.

As famous as millionaire Samuel Edward Ratchett was, he made many enemies before his life was cut short aboard the Orient Express. Unlike most mysteries where one person feels saddened by someone's death, the rest of the Orient's guests held a grudge against Ratchett. What detective Hercule Poirot must deduce is which of them despised enough to brutally murder him.

What he'll find is a case so complicated that it makes him realize justice isn't always black and white.

Death On The Nile

Serving as a sequel to Murder on the Orient Express, Death The Nile finds Hercule Poirot embroiled in another investigation. This time he finds himself aboard what's meant to be a relaxing cruise but turns into horror when the beautiful socialite Linnet Ridgeway is found murdered. As he struggles to piece together clues, Poirot eventually realizes that the answer has been in front of him all along.

And Then There Were None

One by one, guests at an elusive mansion being to suspect there's an ominous reason they've been chosen to stay there. Expecting a host to appear, they continue waiting around while baring their truths to each other. This seals their fate and their deaths slowly begin to pile up. As time — and guests — run out, it's clear that someone is hellbent on making sure there are no survivors.

Five Little Pigs

Hercule Poirot takes on a case that feels like an unsolved mystery in Five Little Pigs and it sends him down a long, winding road. When it's discovered that Caroline Crale may have been framed for her husband's murder, Poirot sets out to find out what really happened the day Amyas — Caroline's huband — was discovered dead.

He begins interviewing everyone who was at the home, but begins to suspect he's had his eyes on the wrong person.

The A.B.C. Murders

Out of the Agatha Christie books, The A.B.C. Murders feels the most chilling because it involves a deranged killer who uses the alphabet at the center of their murders. Initially confused why the killer is contacting him directly, Poirot begins investigating the first victim's family members to find a possible motive.

It's not until he comes to the conclusion that the murder suspect isn't the obvious choice that he's able to successfully solve the case.

Endless Night

This disturbing and sad tale doesn't have a happy ending. Unlike the the Agatha Christie books that involve detective Hercule Poiroit, Endless Night is one psychopathic man's recollections of his life. When he's first introduced in the novel, Michael Rogers is believed to a be a poor young man who has a big heart filled with lofty dreams.

He even falls in love with the wealthy Fenella Guteman and they begin planning to spend the rest of their lives together. However, her death reveals that a disastrous plot was in place from the beginning. It's one that removes all trace of hope for the reader.

Peril At End House

Hercule Poirot and Hastings find themselves trying to prevent a murder at the beginning of Peril at End House, but have a hard time narrowing down a plausible suspect. Someone is hellbent on making sure Magdala Buckley meets a grisly end and they keep leaving murderous hints behind.

What's interesting is that Poirot and Hastings slowly learn that this case involves one woman's stolen identity. Now they'll have to prove what actually happened.

The Mysterious Affair at Styles

Arthur Hastings teams up with his good friend Hercule Poirot to solve the mystery at Styles Court that has the death of Emily Inglethrope at its center. It's discovered that she used to change her will often and was set to revise it again before being killed. What Hastings and Poirot finds is a murderous plot that involves forbidden romance along with greed.

4:50 from Paddington

Jane Marple begins investigating a mysterious murder whose only witness was her best friend Elspeth McGillicuddy. Having seen a man choking a woman to death, Elspeth frantically asks Jane to help figure out what happened. In due time, Jane realizes there's romance and an inheritance at the heart of the murder, allowing her to begin deducing who the suspect is.

Curtain: Poirot's Last Case

Hercule Poirot has always been able to solve cases in Agatha Christie's books, but some initially have their doubts about his findings in Curtain: Poirot's Last Case. As time passes, Poirot begins piecing together clues and leaves them behind for his old friend Hastings to uncover before he dies from a heart attack.

As the chapters unfold, it becomes clear that Poirot knew was he was doing all along and even committed the ultimate offense in order to stop more murders from happening.

If you're a fan of adding a spicy kick to your dishes, then this guide is your passport to creating your own tantalizing chili oil from scratch. In this culinary adventure, we will explore the art of infusing oil with aromatic spices and fiery chili peppers to create a versatile condiment that can elevate any meal. Whether you prefer a milder heat or crave an inferno of spiciness, this step-by-step tutorial will empower you to customize the flavors to suit your taste.

What is Chili Oil?

Chili oil holds a significant place in Chinese culinary traditions, serving as an essential pantry ingredient. It combines the harmonious blend of oil infused with aromatic spices and fiery chili flakes, providing both a flavorful essence and a satisfying crunch. You have the freedom to select any variety of chili pepper, ranging from gentle and mild to intensely fiery and superhot depending on how you take the heat.

Homemade Chili Oil Ingredients

  • Oil: Ideally, a neutral flavored oil, such as vegetable, canola, peanut, soybean, or grape seed oil.
  • Spices: Some essential spices you'll need are star anise, cinnamon stick, bay leaves, Sichuan peppercorns.
  • Salt: Very important as it helps bring out the flavor of all the spices and aromatics.
  • Chili flakes or crushed dried chili peppers
  • Optional spices and add-ins: Whether or not you want to add anything further is up to your personal preference. If you prefer a bit more flavor, you can incorporate spices such as black cardamom, cloves, fresh garlic, or soy sauce.

  1. Collect all the aromatic ingredients you intend to incorporate. Combine the chosen oil and aromatics in a pot. If you opt for using just the essential spices, approximately 1 ½ cups of oil will suffice. You may increase the oil quantity to up to 3 cups if you decide to go a bit more complex on the ingredients.
  2. Begin by placing the pot over medium heat and gradually reduce it to medium-low or low heat as the oil heats up. The goal is to reach an oil temperature of approximately 110-120°C, at which point you should observe small bubbles gently emerging from the aromatics. Allow the aromatics to infuse for a duration of at least 30 minutes up to 1 hour.
  3. Remove the spices first with a fine-meshed strainer, then heat the oil as it needs to be between 110-120° C when poured over the chili flakes.
  4. Prepare your chili flakes in a bowl that can withstand heat. You can experiment within the oil-flakes range, but usually, 1½ cups of oil to ¾ cup of chili flakes should work.
  5. With caution, slowly pour the hot oil through a strainer, allowing it to pass onto the Sichuan chili flakes. Give it a gentle stir to ensure the even distribution of the oil's heat.
  6. Incorporate the salt into the chili oil while giving it a gentle stir, and then let the mixture cool down. For safe storage, transfer the chili oil to airtight containers and keep them refrigerated. Remember to use clean utensils whenever handling the oil.

We all know that fish has a lot of health benefits — omega-3, vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron among many others. But fresh seafood isn't always available...or affordable. Luckily, the tired days of inflation-priced freshly packaged fish seems to be a downward trend, per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, but we still have a long way to go. Aside from its pure convenience, that’s why so many home cooks recently turned to tinned fish.

Tuna, anchovies, sardines, and salmon are all wonderful examples of inexpensive canned proteins that are actually extremely delicious and versatile. Like you would the mundane chicken or beef, you could throw it into pasta, salads, sandwiches, or your favorite lunchtime bowls. The possibilities are endless — so we picked out nine top-notch tinned fish recipes that you can try right after your next grocery run.

Tuna Pasta with Capers

Pasta is basically a clean slate for any and all ingredients—which is what makes it perfect for tinned fish, like tuna. This tuna pasta with capers recipe includes only seven ingredients and approximately seven minutes of your time (give or take). Pro tip: do not skip the anchovies! They actually add an abundance of flavor and are included in some of your lunchtime favorites, such as a Caesar salad. (via Vikalinka)

Filipino Pancit Canton With Sardines

Pancit canton is a type of Lo Mein noodle that pairs nicely with a soy or oyster sauce, just like this recipe calls for. Writer’s note: several of these ingredients can be found in the Oriental aisle of the grocery store. (via Woman Scribbles)

This creamy tuna carbonara recipe puts a slight twist on the classic Italian meal, with a short cooking time. Sardine Toast

Sardines are actually used in breakfast foods quite frequently (think smoothies or scrambled eggs), with this sardine toast being just one recipe variation. Grab that sourdough bread, a garlic clove, cultured butter, fennel, lemon and those sardines for a quick ten minute snack, appetizer, or breakfast. Yes, canned salmon exists, and you can turn it into a mouth-watering salad. Chickpea Tuna Salad

Chickpeas and canned tuna make for one protein-packed dish. The chickpea tuna salad is the perfect go-to for the warmer months, due to its lightweight and refreshing ingredients. A creamy dill dressing, arugula, and cucumbers all scream a poolside lunch during the summer. If you opt for an oil-packed tuna, you can actually incorporate the oil into the dressing. You can easily store it for leftovers too! (via Vikalinka)

Spicy Tuna Sandwich

Image via The Fast Recipe

This is your sign to get back into a sandwich phase. A tuna salad is one of the most classic recipes out there—just throw it in between bread slices to create this spicy tuna sandwich. You can prepare the salad in advance and assemble the sandwiches at a later time, ideal for when you're short of time and need to pack a quick bite. The spiciness from this recipe derives from the hot sauce of your choice! (via The Fast Recipe)

California Sushi Bowl Recipe

A California sushi bowl is one of those recipes that is a hit every single time. This one opts for imitation crab meat which you can easily sub for canned tuna (drain it as much as you can!).
