This Olympic Skater’s Wedding Is Beyond Adorable
To throw a beautiful beach wedding, one has to take some precautions. Just think — one too many drink umbrellas and the whole affair just feels like a night at the Rainforest Cafe. If you want to see how to do a tropical wedding right, just take a look at Olympic skater Blake Skjellerup’s super dreamy Hawaiian ceremony.
The 30-year-old short track speed skater (left) and blogger + stylist Saul Carrasco (right) tied the knot on July 4th in Hawaii. The couple certainly embraced the magical location of their ceremony (I mean, it is Oahu after all) but also managed not to put the tropical touches on overdrive.
The duo (who actually met on Instagram!) tells Queerty, “We choose Hawaii for its central location between New Zealand [Blake’s home country] and the east coast of the U.S. It’s a 10-hour flight for most of our guests, and plus it is Hawaii. We wanted to create a week of fun vacation for our friends and family while celebrating our wedding, and Oahu is the perfect place to do that.”
Blake and Saul kept the decor refined, but weren’t afraid to add a little bit of fun in the details. Case in point: those ties and pocket squares!
Since we are always a sucker for a good DIY element, our favorite part of the whole ordeal just might be the handmade hula-girl bracelets Saul made as part of his new jewelry line. The bracelets were attached to the place settings for guests to take home as a momento.
Congrats to the happy couple!
