If Twitter is any indication, fans seemed to love every single moment of the Game of Thrones season seven premiere, except one: Ed Sheeran鈥檚 controversial cameo. His appearance sparked an internet meltdown by those who either loved or (viciously) hated the scene, and the backlash seemed to drive the singer right off of Twitter (temporarily, since he鈥檚 already back). But Sheeran just revealed that the social media hate wasn鈥檛 what moved him to delete his account.

Posting an 鈥渦nrelated鈥 picture of himself and his 鈥渨onderful manager riding off into the sunset together鈥 to Instagram, Sheeran captioned the image, 鈥淟ast i鈥檒l say on this. I came off Twitter Coz I was always intending to come off Twitter, had nothing to do with what people said about my game of thrones cameo鈥︹

Wanting to address the buzz around the fact that he had suddenly gone MIA on Twitter *and* appeared on one of the most popular shows of our time, he added, 鈥溾ecause I am in game of thrones, why the hell would I worry what people thought about that. It鈥檚 clearly f*ckin鈥 awesome. Timing was just a coincidence, but believe what you want.鈥

Given that Sheeran also has an upcoming role on The Simpsons, we think he鈥檚 probably feeling pretty good about his burgeoning TV career.
