She now stars as a housewife seeking revenge against a cheating husband on TV鈥檚 American Woman, but Alicia Silverstone is perhaps best known for her role as Cher Horowitz in 1995鈥檚 teen classic Clueless. Cher鈥檚 iconic wardrobe continues to inspire fashion trends more than two decades later, and while Silverstone herself took home many of the looks that would go on to be famous, she explains why she could never re-wear them, and we鈥檙e like, totally buggin鈥.

The Book Club star recently appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers and told the host that she鈥檚 currently loving her American Woman character鈥檚 bold 鈥70s fashion, even donning a dress that famous 鈥60s model Twiggy previously wore. But just as her character鈥檚 vibrant throwback style doesn鈥檛 translate well to real-life dressing, Silverstone reveals that a plaid mini and high knee socks might not, either.

She shares, 鈥淚 took so many costumes home, but the knee-highs with the Mary Janes in a normal world doesn鈥檛 really quite work.鈥 Meyers then pointed out that if people saw her on the street wearing her Clueless costumes, they鈥檇 think it was 鈥渧ery strange,鈥 to which the 41-year-old actress agreed.

And while Silverstone did bring back her famous plaid yellow outfit for an episode of Lip Sync Battle in the spring, it seems that getting rid of Cher鈥檚 clothes remains her biggest Clueless regret.

In 2017, she told Entertainment Tonight that she gave every outfit she took home away, 鈥淚 took so much of the clothes,鈥 admitting, 鈥淚鈥檓 really sad because I don鈥檛 have any of them anymore because, like a ding dong, I got home with so many of the clothes and I was like, 鈥楬ow am I going to wear these Mary Janes out now?'鈥

At the time, she said she was a 鈥渢omboy鈥 that simply 鈥渄idn鈥檛 get fashion鈥 and clearly had no idea how legendary her character 鈥 and those uber recognizable Clueless outfits 鈥 would become. As if!
