Carson Daly’s Stepfather Dies Just Five Weeks After His Mom
It’s been a difficult month for The Voice and Today host Carson Daly. Just five weeks ago, his mother, Pattie Daly Caruso, died suddenly at the age of 73. And on Tuesday, Daly’s stepfather, Richard Caruso, died too.

“Pops passed away today with absolute dignity and pride,” Daly captioned a pic of his stepdad. “The greatest man we ever knew. Our hero. He exemplified great faith, loyalty to family, and hard work. He provided us all with so much. We’re grateful. His legacy lives on in all of us and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.”
Daly continued, “He’s reunited with mom now. Our faith remains strong. Thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers.”
Daly had been absent from the Today show prior to Caruso’s death. On Tuesday morning, a viewer inquired as to his whereabouts. “Short story, been a rough month for my fam,” he replied. “Mom passing. Dad’s health in peril. Just finished shooting NEXT season of Voice. Back Thursday.”

According to Today.com, Caruso had been battling bone cancer. Daly lost his biological father to bladder cancer when he was just a child.

Daly’s wife, not unlike when Pattie died, posted a touching Instagram tribute not only to her father-in-law, but to her husband too.
“As I try to navigate through all of this loss and heartbreak, I am constantly in awe of my husband’s strength,” she wrote. “His faith and his sweet, unconditional love for his family never falter, even amid his overwhelming grief. His dad raised him to be strong like this. His dad taught us all so much. Pops, rest peacefully. Watch over us, and give Kiki [as the grandkids called her] a big hug from the kiddos.”
We’re sending our thoughts to the Daly family in their continued difficult time.
