This Might Be the Most Expensive Celeb Makeup Trend Ever
Gold makeup is having a *major* moment, y’all, and it’s been pretty hard to miss. From gilded lips at Prada’s recent Fashion Week show to gold-adorned face makeup on Zoe Kravitz at Kanye West’s Hollywood Bowl show, it appears that glitz is IN — and we’re loving the bold look of this new trend.
Let’s start with the gold lips at Prada, all thanks to the always-creative makeup genius that is Pat McGrath. The lips literally looked like pieces of art in their own right — they were meticulously painted a yellow-y gold color using actual 24-karat gold powder. The look was slightly sheeny and reflective without being overly shiny, keeping the focus on the details of each models’ pucker. The rest of the face was kept very bare with a no makeup makeup look. Beyond the lips, the focal point of this look were the super piecey baby bangs brushed out on the face.
Taking this gold trend even further was cool lady Zoe Kravitz. She appeared alongside Kanye West at the Hollywood Bowl rocking gold face makeup that reminded us of what would be the chicest face mask ever (so… major Halloween inspo!). The gold covered her face from her forehead to her cheekbones and across her nose, creating an insanely unique look that was totally appropriate for the edginess that goes hand-in-hand with a Kanye show. The rest of her face was kept glow-y — not a ton of crazy makeup other than a super sleek, winged cat eye with black liner. Well done, Zoe.
While Zoe Kravitz is definitely making us want to add flash tattoos to our faces and see what happens, we think the gold lips look is the most wearable out of this gleamy trend and it can be really pretty if you keep everything else super toned down — including your outfit!
Here’s how to try it out: First, you need to find *the* gold lipstick that will transport you to golden goddess status — try KA`OIR’s lipstick in Golden Gossess ($16). It’s gold and glitzy without being overly shimmery and costume-looking. Layer it on until you feel you’ve got the coverage you’re looking for and then keep the rest of your makeup fresh-looking (flawless base, a little color on your cheeks, groomed brows and light mascara). You don’t want anything to distract from your gilded pout, right?!
