Rom-coms are so backāespecially when it comes to Lena Dunham's new Netflix movie, Good Sex (debut date TBD). The film will feature major icons like Meg Ryan, Mark Ruffalo, and moreāa lineup thatās bound to generate buzz.
Lena Dunham first gained notoriety for the HBO hit show Girls (which ended in 2017 after a successful six-season run), and she created Too Much, set to premiere on Netflix on July 10, 2025. Needless to say, Dunham knows a thing or two about creating a high-beloved rom-com, so this is sure to be something special!

What is 'Good Sex' about?

Set in New York City, Good Sex centers on a couples therapist, played by Natalie Portman, who decides to reenter the dating scene after years of prioritizing her patients over her love life. Her plans quickly unravel when she finds herself dating two very different men: one a decade her senior, played by Mark Ruffalo, and the other a charismatic 20-something, played by Tucker Pillsbury.

The Good Sex cast couldn't be more perfect! The group includes:

Ruffaloās character will be portrayed as a successful businessman in his 50s, while Pillsburyās takes on a much more lax personaāa Brooklyn hipster with artistic ambitions.
Billy Kidd
As Natalie Portmanās character, Ally, is thrown into a love triangle whirlwind, she soon realizes that desire can defy logic and that there is no age limit on good sex. But while romance blossoms with both men, Ally struggles to keep both relationships separate and navigate her evolving desires before she risks losing them bothāand herself in the process.
Rashida Jones rounds out the cast as Allyās sharp and loyal best friend, offering a blend of comic relief and grounded wisdom. This character is Allyās go-to for all things love and chaos, constantly calling out the double standards surrounding aging, attraction, and emotional baggage. Classic rom-com vibesāwith a twistāJones brings humor, heart, and some real talk that keeps Ally rooted (or at least tries to).
Firooz Zahedi
Meg Ryan will play the role of the protagonistās therapist. Her casting marks a full-circle moment, as Ryan is synonymous with the American rom-com boom of the 1990s. She rose to fame through iconic performances in three beloved films written by Nora Ephron: When Harry Met Sallyā¦ (1989), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and Youāve Got Mail (1998).
Portman and Sophie Mas produce under their MountainA banner alongside Dunham and Michael Cohen through Good Thing Going Productions. Tim Bevan, Michael Sledd, and Michaela Celella also serve as executive producers for MountainA.
