The words “IKEA collection” are always enough to send us into a tizzy, but the brand’s latest endeavor sounds like a reason to jump for absolute joy. The Swedish-born furniture maven is celebrating its 75th birthday by launching a collection chock-full of drool-worthy designs that are sure to give us a blast from design history past.
The GRATULERA collection, as it’s called, will dish out three different lines starting in August 2018. Each line will focus on a specific decade range, which will be reflected in the style of the furniture. In fact, the brand will even bring back some of its classic pieces from decades past in updated colors and materials.
“Each launch is different from the other, signifying its time period,” IKEA Creative Leader, Karin Gustavsson shared in a press release. “From dark woods with a classic expression, to a very playful style with strong colors, and then to a more natural look with natural Scandinavian woods and graphic colors.”
The initial launch pays homage to the ’50s and ’60s; the following collection is the all about the ’70s and ’80s, and the final one will take us back to the timeframe of NSYNC: the ’90s and early aughts.
While images of the individual pieces haven’t been released yet, we can already guarantee we’ll be adding some of these babies to our carts as soon as they hit the market! Happy 75th birthday, IKEA!
