This Theory About Jack’s Death on This Is Us Is Kind of Crazy
There’s a pretty good chance that if you’re reading this, you’re still reeling over the end of the first season of This Is Us. While we all start looking for another show to fill the void, at LEAST we’re getting lots of little teasers about season two, as misleading (mean!) or as hopeful (phew!) as they might be.
The story line fans remain most obsessed with, of course, is Jack’s death. One of the most bonkers fan theories is that Rebecca, his wife, was involved in having him killed, a theory that Mandy Moore (who plays Rebecca) hilariously debunked, saying “people are bananas.” But there’s another pretty crazy theory that’s starting to get pieced together — and it’s a pretty intense one.
On a recent PaleyFest panel, E! News ran down some of the theories — like the above — with many of the cast members (Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley, Chrissy Metz, and more), and they were quick to once again shoot down the murder theory. E! then started tying together a bunch of other clues, including some pointing to Jack dying in a plane crash.
Think about it: Why is Kate afraid of flying? And why did Kevin throw out all the model airplanes he made with his dad, Jack, after he died?! You might remember that when we see the Pearson kids at their dad’s funeral, they’re depicted as teens, and as E! also points out, there was an IRL plane crash in 1994 (lining up with the ages) just outside of Pittsburgh — where many of the flashback scenes take place.
Mind. Blown.
There’s SO much to look forward to in season two — we’re starting the countdown now.
Do you think the plane crash theory could be true? Let us know @BritandCo!
