You'll Never Believe How Much Rare Beauty Is Donating To World Mental Health Day

I know I'm not alone when I say that I am in awe of Selena Gomez. From acting to singing to makeup, what can't that woman do? What really makes her such an inspiration, though, isn't her incredible work ethic or her stacked resume. It's how she continues to utilize her platform to speak about mental healthand raise awareness for the struggles she and so many others have gone through.

Selena Gomez continues her work to de-stigmatize the subject and encourage others to take care of themselves, and in honor of World Mental Health Day on October 10, here's what you need to know about her work. From co-founding a company designed to help people become mentally fit to using her successful makeup brand for good, here is the rundown on how Gomez continues to be an advocate and champion for the cause.

Rare Impact Fund

On October 4, Gomez hosted the inaugural Rare Impact Fund Benefit in Los Angeles, which raised money for the Rare Impact Fund's mission. More A-listers than we could count showed up to support Gomez as she advocated for mental health education and resource access — actions that will improve the lives of millions.

Selena Gomez founded The Rare Impact Fund in order to further her commitment to helping herself and others with their mental health. The goal of the organization is to raise $100M in funds to support mental health organizations over the next ten years. What makes this organization especially amazing is that consumers of her brand (that's us!) are contributing to this great cause.

1% of all sales from Rare Beauty products are given to the Rare Impact Fund. But on October 10, 2023, Sephora will also be donating 100% of all Rare Beauty sales to the Rare Impact Fund for World Mental Health Day! Talk about a beautiful way to give back!

Our Editors' Favorite Rare Beauty Products

Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Sunscreen

Assistant Editor Chloe here!! The Tinted Moisturizer is my go-to base right now and it's definitely one of my favorites. Not only does it have SPF but the consistency is so smooth that after it's blended out, it looks just like your skin. I usually layer it over a glowy primer to add even more of a dewy finish.

Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer Sticks

TBH, I was nervous about using these bronzer sticks for the first time. It's so easy to use too much bronzer on accident (hello 2006...). But the great thing about the Warm Wishes sticks is how understated they are. I just add a little to my brush, instead of applying it directly to my skin, and that ensures I'll have more control over how much goes where.

Lip Soufflé Matte Cream Lipstick

This cream lipstick is the latest addition to my makeup collection! It's long-lasting and feels so soft on your lips, you definitely won't regret grabbing a neutral shade, a bright cranberry, or all of them.

All of the Above Weightless Eyeshadow Stick

I just started using these eyeshadow sticks and I am already head over heels obsessed. They're *so* smooth, and they blend easily, regardless of whether you use your fingertips or an eyeshadow brush. Plus, all of the shades look so good with each other that there are endless combos! They also don't rub off the way other eyeshadows might.

Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight

This liquid highlighter (it also comes in a concentrated powder form) is so very beautiful, and it's the perfect finishing touch for a full face of makeup or a minimalist no makeup look. I recommend blending it out with your fingertips rather than a makeup sponge to fully diffuse it.

Perfect Strokes Universal Volumizing Mascara

The Perfect Strokes mascara is easily buildable (I start out with a super thin layer, then add on until they're nice and full). Because the product isn't too heavy, I don't even need to curl my lashes — they look alert all day long!

Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner

This is the craziest eyeliner I've ever used. It's so precise that so far, it's been almost impossible to make a mistake. I've done both thinner strokes and thicker, glam eyeliner, and it's worked great for both! And when I decided to change up a stroke, the eyeliner came off my skin really easily.

Soft Pinch Liquid Blush

You've probably seen the Soft Pinch blush on your TikTok at least once, if not many times, and it's for good reason. This product is really pigmented and goes such a long way. So, not only is it good quality, you'll save a little bit of product and money in the long run! This shade provides such a beautiful flush that I use it basically every day.

We all have big feelings. And thanks to social media and rising levels of anxiety, those feelings, well, feel bigger than ever. That’s exactly where resources like Wondermind come in. The self-proclaimed “mental health ecosystem” is all about exploring, discussing, and navigating our emotions together. This Mental Health Awareness Month, Wondermind wants you to live your mental health journey in community because Mandy Teefey, who co-founded the company with daughter Selena Gomez, knows what it’s like to walk that journey alone.

Image via Wondermind

“As I went through a very long journey of finding I did have a mental health diagnosis — and then I was misdiagnosed and then I had to go through that — I was blessed to have the resources to do that,” Teefey, who received an ADHD and trauma diagnosis after a 20-year bipolar misdiagnosis, says. “Whenever I started my journey of discovering what mental condition I had…I didn't have anybody to lean into or explain the way I was feeling.”

While these personal experiences helped Teefey better understand mental health, it wasn’t until she produced Netflix’s 2017 series 13 Reasons Whythat she saw just how far the mental health conversation goes. The hit show went viral almost as soon as it aired because of its realistic depiction of mental health and all the aftershocks of trauma.

“After we did 13 Reasons Why and saw the reaction and the need for that support, me and Selena were trying to really figure out what could be next,” Teefey says. “Everybody was releasing things [at] different times. It's like you have to have 12 apps to have a program, and then remember to use them all. So that's when we decided to create a mental fitness ecosystem. So it's all-encompassing, but there's something for everyone.”

“We're not a medicinal company [but] we do have an advisory committee that oversees everything that we do,” Teefey continues. “We're technically not doctors, but we are for everyone when it comes to feelings. Everybody has feelings and they can go to our content hub and just kind of explore that for a while.”

Image via Brit + Co

Admittedly, that exploration bit is pretty fun. The articles are inspiring, and the worksheets (which are each created by an expert) are incredibly helpful. Seeing every program, article, and podcast episode feels like an opportunity to start fresh, but once you have all the ideas in front of you, what do you actually do? Teefey recommends journaling, even if it’s just a sentence every day. (She also loves watching journaling videos from Planning Annie: “Anytime I'm feeling sad or like a little unmotivated, I put her on.”)

Journaling every day, even if your entries are short, allows you to track your mood over an extended period of time. If you notice a consistent sadness, for example, it could be a sign it’s time to check in with your doctor. Plus, journaling can help prepare you for the conversations mental health appointments bring up.

“Sometimes if you go into a therapy session and you're not really settled or concrete in who you are and what may be going on, you might go through what I went through, which is being misdiagnosed,” Teefey says. “It's more important for you to know who you are and what you need prior to going in. So you can give that to them instead of them guessing and working around that process with you.”

Image via Brit + Co

Establishing a consistent routine can help decrease your stress, whether you’re eating the same breakfast every day, or you stick to a tried and true skincare regimen like Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie does on Euphoria. I immediately thought of this teen drama when Mandy Teefey mentioned how important her 4 a.m. routine is. But while Cassie spends time doing her skincare and makeup, Teefey spends time nurturing her soul.

“If I don't have [that routine], I'm usually really off kilter,” she says. “So I get up at 4 when everyone's still asleep, and I found that time could be about me, and I'm not taking it away from anybody. And so that's really what helped me be more grounded throughout the day.”

I can attest that my own quiet time in the morning is vital for a successful day — as is knowing what my boundaries need to be. Because honestly, boundaries can change daily! Teefey and I both acknowledge we have to stay away from sad music to protect our mental health, and she also recommends staying off social media when you feel your mental health struggling.

“I can go three days without looking at social media and then when I go on there, I start having anxiety because I'm like, ‘Oh my gosh, I haven't liked this person. I haven't even liked our own pictures [for] Wondermind.’ And then I start feeling guilty,” she says. “There's just some kind of [expectation] to do social media and you really don't. Not everybody needs to know everything, you know? There's beauty in privacy.”

Even Selena Gomez admitted at the 2024 Time100 Summit that taking time off Instagram "was the most rewarding gift I gave myself."

Image via Brit + Co

The idea of staying off social media is way easier said than done (speaking from first hand experience here). If you feel like you’re drowning in engagement announcements, anxiety-inducing news, and FOMO, Teefey recommends keeping tabs on your reactions to gauge when it’s time to take a serious break.

“If it invokes any emotion that is a negative emotion, I [know] it's not worth being angry about, it's not worth losing sleep about,” she says. “It just feels like there's an unintentional taunting on social media and, ‘Wait a minute, is that about me?’ You don't know this person and then you start running with all this stuff in your mind.”

Like every area of life, social media is all about balance, and if you’re looking to unplug while still staying informed, Mandy Teefey recommends bringing a journal with you when doing your morning news scroll — that way, you can process emotions while keeping tabs on what’s happening. “If anything evokes emotion, I'm meditating during the quiet time,” she says.

Studies have found journaling can help decrease your anxiety, and that it can help you break obsessive thought cycles. And while you’re the only one who can process your thoughts and emotions, it’s important not to isolate yourself from your community — especially when you’re struggling. “You gotta build trust and you gotta build the boundary of who you volunteer [your] help to,” she says.

When it comes to her own daughters, Mandy Teefey knows it’s a process. “You have to work with them and meet them where they're at, and then see the help they need and don't assume [they’re going through] what you went through,” she says. “You've got to really understand them to be able to give that advice.”

Image via Natalie Rhea

In her own life, Mandy Teefey got to experience building that trust first-hand with Selena Gomez! “One time it was very, very cold in California and me and Selena were on the opposite sides of the pool,” she says. “We were in sweats and she says, ‘Do you trust me?’ And I went, ‘Yeah.’ And she goes ‘Okay, if you trust me, on three, we're gonna jump in this ice cold pool.’”

While Teefey wasn’t convinced, she trusted Gomez, and they both ended up in the freezing cold water! Which is both a funny story and a fond memory: “We couldn't get out of the pool because [our clothes were] so heavy. It was madness!”

“There's a lot of things I know my daughters don't tell me and that's their right,” she continues. “It's so sensitive between teenagers — especially teenagers — and their parents. They're going through that phase and they don't want to be around them and they don't wanna tell them things. It's definitely not easy but maybe put some feelers out there and just make sure that they know you're there and make it okay to have these conversations.”

Thanks to all this actionable advice, we know that Mental Health Awareness month isn’t limited to TikTok videos or Instagram posts we can reshare. There are real tips we can use to take care of ourselves — and a place to go when we need a boost.

Austin Butler as Elvis, Selena Gomez as Linda Rondstat, and now Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan — there will never be enough biopics for me! (The real question is when are we going to get a Taylor Swift movie?). When pictures from the set of the new Bob Dylan movie, A Complete Unknown, hit Twitter, I had to do a double take because Timothée Chalamet looks so much like the musician I couldn't believe my eyes!

Timothée is going to be joined by Met Gala queen Elle Fanning, as well as Top Gun superstar Monica Barbaro. Here's everything you need to know about the movie — and our favorite Bob Dylan songs to listen to while you wait for its release.

Elle Fanning and Timothée Chalamet In "A Complete Unknown"

twitter.com

Elle Fanning totally embodies the late '60s vibe in this fall outfit. The bold maroon blazer, the long straight hair, and the striped turtleneck — I love it all! Elle is starring this Bob Dylan movie as Sylvie Russo, a university student and artist Bob falls for in the '60s.

twitter.com

Thanks to some onset leaks, we also got a glimpse of the movie's version of The Freewheelin'! Elle Fanning and Timothée Chalamet look incredible as Sylvia Russo and Bob Dylan. I'm a sucker for any kind of recreation, so seeing this new version of the classic record cover is incredible!!

Monica Barbaro Sings Her Heart Out

twitter.com

We also got a look at Monica Barbaro as singer-songwriter Joan Baez, who was one of the first major artists in the 1960s to record Bob Dylan's music!

The First Pictures From Timothée Chalamet's Bob Dylan Movie

twitter.com

Timothée Chalamet has totally transformed into Bob Dylan on the set of A Complete Unknown. And when I saw the pictures of Timothée carrying the guitar my jaw dropped!! He completely engrossed himself in Wonka and Dune 2 and I'm so excited to see him do the same for this Bob Dylan movie.

What is the movie about Bob Dylan called?

Images via H. Thompson/Evening Standard/Hulton Archive/Amy Sussman/Getty Images

Timothée Chalamet's Bob Dylan movie is called A Complete Unknown. As of March 2024, the movie is filming around New York City, and James Mangold is serving as director (you might recognize his name from Logan, Girl, Interrupted, and Walk the Line). The movie will reportedly cover the period during the 1960s when Bob Dylan shifted from folk to rock'n'roll, changing the face of pop culture (and culture in general, TBH), forever.

"When that movie finally comes out, people are going to be shocked because you're going to think you're hearing Bob Dylan sing," vocal coach Eric Vetro tells PEOPLE. "[Timothée Chalamet] just has this uncanny ability to not impersonate, but really breathe life into it. He's embodying Bob Dylan and what he was like at that age."

Who else is in A Complete Unknown with Timothée Chalamet?

Images via Amy Sussman/Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images/Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Gotham Film & Media Institute

The A Complete Unknown cast is incredible! Alongside Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, we'll see Top Gun: Maverick's Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, and Nick Offerman as Alan Lomax.

When is the Bob Dylan movie coming out?

Image via Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images

We don't have an official release date for A Complete Unknown. However, since filming has already commenced, there's a good chance we'll see the movie in the fall of 2025. And since Timothée Chalamet has been seen in turtlenecks, hats, and jackets on set, this sounds like the perfect fall movie to me!

I always need some brand new music to listen to once the weather gets chilly, and I will for sure be listening to anything Timothée records.

What song did Bob Dylan write for a movie?

Image via Christopher Polk/Getty Images for VH1

Bob Dylan wrote "Things Have Changed" for the 2000 movie Wonder Boys, which starred Michael Douglas, Tobey Maguire, and Katie Holmes. This Bob Dylan song ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Original Songand the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song!

"Knockin' On Heaven's Door," which is arguably the singer's most popular track, was released two months after the 1973 premiere of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid as a part of the film's soundtrack.

What are some other Bob Dylan songs to listen to?

Image via Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images

I totally agree that one of the best Bob Dylan songs is "Knockin' On Heaven's Door," but "Blowin' In The Wind" and "The Times They Are A-Changin'" are also great songs to listen to if you're a new Bob Dylan fan. So far, "The Times They Are A-Changin'" is my personal favorite song.

His style is the perfect blend of rock and folk that reminds me of summer picnics and walks in the woods. His sound also reportedly inspired Taylor Swift's Folklore!

Are you stressed right now? Maybe not so stressed that you curl up in a ball, or run around screaming, but most of us have at least some stress in our lives. And often that’s a good thing; the right amount of stress motivates us and gets us up in the morning. But if stress gets too much, we start to suffer, become demotivated, and eventually collapse as our nervous system falls apart.

Fortunately, there are ways in which we can build our resilience. Some of these are useful for everyone; getting support from your family and friends, nurturing a positive view of yourself, doing things that you enjoy and find relaxing, developing realistic goals and taking action to achieve them. But some will be unique to you, to your particular circumstances to your personality. If you know your personality type, you will have a head start on knowing what your stress triggers are (and so dealing with them), how you react to stress, and how to cope with that reaction. In other words, how to build resilience.

Personality Types And How They Deal With Stress

Image via Photo by Mikhail Nilov/Pexels

The personality type framework, as measured by the Myers-Briggs(MBTI) assessment, looks at four aspects of personality:

  • Extraversion-Introversion — People with an Extraversion personality preference are energized by and focus their attention on what’s happening around them, their external world. They are likely to find spending too much time alone without enough external stimulation quite stressful. People with an Introversion preference are energized by and focus their attention on their inner world of thoughts and feelings. They can become stressed if they are forced to spend too much time with others, or when they have to cope with too many external distractions.
  • Sensing-Intuition — is all about how we take in information. People with a Sensing preference prefer information that is realistic, practical, built on past or present real-life experiences, and often detailed. They can be stressed when things are ambiguous and unclear, without any clear direction. People with an Intuition preference are interested in the big picture, in how things connect, and in ideas rather than facts. They will find having to follow exact instructions stressful, and working with people who demand lots of detail.
  • Thinking-Feeling —People with a Thinking preference want to make decisions using objective logic and will be stressed when decisions seem to be subjective, or when they are forced to concentrate on people rather than the task at hand. People with a Feeling preference want to make decisions that line up with their values and they will be stressed if they feel that those values are not being respected, and when there is conflict.
  • Judging-Perceiving — People with a Judging preference want to live in an organized, planned way and will find dealing with disorganized people stressful, or having to rush things at the last minute. People with a Judging preference want to live in a more spontaneous, emergent way and will become stressed when they have to deal with inflexible people, or when they are forced to make decisions before they feel they really need to.

Image via Photo by Mike Jones/Pexels

Everyone will have a preference for Extraversion (E) or Introversion (I), for Sensing (S) or for Intuition (N), for Thinking (T) or for Feeling (F), and for Judging (J) or for Perceiving (P). These four preferences combine together dynamically to give one of 16 types. For example, if someone has preferences for Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking and Judging, then their overall type would be ESTJ. If you know your type, you can identify your likely stressors (and so avoid or mitigate them), your typical behavior under everyday stress (so that you can recognize when you are stressed) and what to do to cope with that reaction, stop the stress cycle and so build resilience. Here’s the detail for each type.

Like any good comfort show, Sweet Magnolias feels like a warm hug (even if it's a nice spring day — the show is just that good!). Watching this series feels like drinking the perfect glass of iced tea...plus it'll make you appreciate your female friendships even more than you already do. Somehow, it's been almost a year since we saw Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen, but the good news is that our favorite ladies are back in action because Sweet Magnolias Season 4 is officially filming! Here's everything to know about the new TV show.

Will there be Sweet Magnolias season 4?

Image via Netflix

Yes, we're getting a Sweet Magnolias season 4! The senior season was confirmed in October of 2023 after season 3 dropped in July. I can't wait to see what all our favorite Serenity residents are up to this time around!

When is Sweet Magnolias season 4 coming out?

Image via Netflix

Sweet Magnolias season 4 started filming in February of 2024. Based on the timeline for season 3 (which released a year after it filmed), we could see it in February 2025!

How many episodes are in season 4 of Sweet Magnolias?

Image via Netflix

Considering all three seasons of Sweet Magnolias have ten episodes, it's safe to assume Sweet Magnolias season 4 will have 10 episodes total. But we'll have to see if Netflix drops them all at one time, or if they do a two-part premiere like they're doing with Bridgerton!

Who's in the Sweet Magnolias cast this year?

Image via Netflix

We'll see JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley return as our titular Sweet Magnolias, and I hope we see Logan Allen, Anneliese Judge, Carson Rowland, and Jamie Lynn Spears too!

What is Sweet Magnolias season 4 about?

Image via Netflix

Even though season 3 ended on a high note, showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson promises there will be more drama in the future (which feels true to life — when is there never not drama IRL?).

Sweet Magnolias season 4 will examine "the twists and turns of romance, the complexity of friendship, the surprises that pop up in life," she tells TUDUM, "and how all these things make us more grateful for the people who love us, the people who fight for — and with — us, and the people who can make us laugh, whatever we’re going through.”

“True friendship is a living thing: It has to change and grow as we do," she continues. "And that’s not always easy. But that’s what makes it beautiful.”

Check back here for the latest news on Sweet Magnolias season 4!

If you were anything like me, you spent all of the late 2000s and 2010s talking about whether you'd be a vampire or a werewolf (self-proclaimed vampire here). Twilight and The Vampire Diaries are totally to blame for the craze, and no matter how you feel about all those angsty immortal teens, romantasy fans are in for a treat thanks to the new vampy Kirsten Stewart movie. Here's everything you need to know.

What's the new Kristen Stewart movie?

Image via Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images

Kristen Stewart's new movie is called Flesh of the Gods, and like all good things, the movie is set in 1980s Los Angeles. Kristen plays Alex, who's married to Raoul (played by Oscar Isaac). Every night, the wealthy couple swaps their luxury condo for the electricity of LA's nighttime scene. But when they come face-to-face with a mysterious and lively group, Alex and Raoul are swept up in a violent and glamorous world they never knew existed.

“Like Los Angeles itself Flesh of the Gods inhabits the liminal realm between fantasy and nightmare,” producer Gena Konstantinakos told Hollywood Reporter. “Both propulsive and hypnotic, Flesh will take you on a hot rod joy ride deep into the glittering heart of hell.”

When is Flesh of the Gods coming out?

Image via Tima Miroshnichenko/Pexels

It looks like we could see the movie in 2025. THR reports that the Flesh of the Gods team is hoping to begin filming later this year.

Who's in the Flesh of the Gods cast?

No cast members have been announced aside from Kristen Stewart and Oscar Isaac.

Where are they filming the new Kristen Stewart movie Flesh of the Gods?

Image via Roberto Nickson/Pexels

Considering Flesh of the Gods takes place in LA, I'm expecting the movie to film on location. I can't wait to see how they take Los Angeles back to the 1980s!

What other Oscar Isaac and Kristen Stewart movies should I watch?

Image via Emma McIntyre/Getty Images

If you're a Kristen Stewart fan then you've probably already seen Twilight, but one of my favorite movies as a kid was Catch That Kid. She most recently starred in Love Lies Bleeding, and Speak and Snow White and the Huntsman are fan favorites too!

Oscar Isaac starred in Marvel'sMoon Knight in 2022, and was recently on Broadway in The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window. He's also had roles in Dune, Scenes from a Marriage, and Ex Machina.
