Anna Wintour to Auction Off Her Own Chanel Sunglasses
Vogue powerhouse Anna Wintour (who rocked lazy-girl style to Fashion Week this year) is almost never seen without her dark, rounded sunnies (along with her sleek banged bob). She wears them so frequently that she described them back in 2009 as “armor.” Now the legendary editor-in-chief and Condé Nast artistic director is parting ways with one of her beloved pairs, all in the name of a good cause.
Wintour is auctioning off her iconic Chanel sunglasses with proceeds going to benefit The Trevor Project: the LGBTQ+ suicide prevention hotline based on a character of the same name from the short film, Trevor. As Refinery 29 pointed out, gay rights are a cause the editrix has long-supported, even winning the Ally for Equality Award for her activism within the community back in 2012.
The auction will follow a performance of Ryan Rafferty Is the Most Powerful Woman in Fashion on April 27, a musical which sees Rafferty dressed as Wintour in drag and spoofing her most hilarious and controversial fashion moments. Case in point? Her decision to feature Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on a 2014 cover for the mag.
A portion of the proceeds from the show will also go The Trevor Project, with another chance to catch it the following night. And, should you miss out on the fashion icon’s loot, you can still score big, as other fashion-related items (like a $1,000 gift certificate to Bergdorf Goodman) will be up for grabs.
