Prince Philip Has Been Hospitalized
Recently retired Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth’s 96-year-old husband and the grandfather of Prince William and Prince Harry (as well as the great-grandfather of little Prince George and Princess Charlotte), has been hospitalized, according to reports from Buckingham Palace and the royal family.
“The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London last night, as a precautionary measure, for treatment of an infection arising from a pre-existing condition,” a spokesman for the family told People, adding that despite the health issue, the Prince is still in “good spirits.”
Attending the Royal Ascot races with Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday, Prince Philip was expected to also make an appearance along with the Queen today at the State Opening of Parliament.
Not wanting to worry the public with his absence, the royals decided to release the news of the hospitalization to prevent rumors circulating that something worse might have happened (the same way possibilities of the Prince’s death buzzed when a late-night meeting was recently called simply to address the fact that he’s stepping back from public life).
While the royal family isn’t likely to release any further details about Prince Philip’s condition until he’s feeling better (or if he takes a sudden and unexpected turn for the worse), fans of the royals can surely still send well wishes to the Prince as he recovers.
