19 Mental Health Books To Help Support Your Healing Journey

19 mental health books

Getting lost in your favorite TBR picks is fun, but there may be a part of you that's also looking to read more mental health books this year. While we absolutely feel giddy about setting career goals, prioritizing your wellbeing counts as self-improvement that doesn't feel like you're racing to become successful. This could look like you finding an affordable therapist, setting boundaries with loved ones, or learning how to stop being a people pleaser.

No matter what your self-caregoals are, we've got 19 mental health books that'll help support your healing journey.

Quarterlife: The Search for Self in Early Adulthood

Your early twenties can be full of excitement and confusion. You've got more freedom than you did as a teen, but you're still figuring out who you are — or at least trying to be comfortable with your identity. It's time where society expects you to get it right, leaving little room for error and that can suck.

Satya Doyle Byock wants you to know there's nothing wrong with you in Quarterlife: The Search for Self in Early Adulthood. With her four pillars of development, you'll learn how to separate from things aren't beneficial, listen to your inner voice, build healthy routines, and integrate all these things for a life you love.

It Didn't Start With You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How to End the Cycle

During a session with my therapist last year, I was shocked to learn that mental illnesses can be hereditary. It reminded that many people aren't fortunate to grow up in environments where people are willing or able to care for their mental health. However, books like It Didn't Start With You exist to help us gain a better understanding of how we may be carrying things that simply aren't our fault.

This book — along with supported evidence — suggests that the trauma from our ancestors can live within us. Not only that, but it explains how our daily habits and choices can be affected by it.

Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Heal From Distant, Rejecting, or Self-Involved Parents

Just like It Didn't Start With You helps us understand that mental health struggles aren't a result of something we did, Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents wants readers to know how parents can affect their parents. If you have a difficult relationship with one of your parents as a adult, Psychologist Lindsay Gibson wants to help you heal from childhood trauma.

Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?

Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before aims to be a helpful resource in your daily life. Even if you don't have a mental health diagnoses, life can have hard moments and some days can be tough to navigate. Dr. Julie Smith outlines different tools you can utilize in different situations so you're not weighed down by life.

I Don't Want to Talk About It: Overcoming the Secret Legacy of Male Depression

This is a great gift to give your S.O., brother, cousin, uncle, or bestie if they're struggling with depression. Too often men don't feel comfortable talking about their emotions and can bottle them up, leading to prolonged bouts of sadness. It's an excellent read that seeks to help men understand that they don't have to suffer silently.

The Body Keeps Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

Similar to It Didn't Start With You, The Body Keeps Score shares startling facts about how powerful trauma is and the effects it has on a person, changing how they move through their daily life. However, Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D. shares different methods that can someone begin healing.

The Mind-Gut Connection: How the Hidden Conversation Within Our Bodies Impacts Our Mood, Our Choices, and Our Overall Health

The Mind-Gut Connection wants us to understand just how connected our minds, microbiomes, and gut health are intertwined. They're constantly communicating — even if we're unaware — and can determine a host of things. From dealing with bloat to suffering from anxiety, you'll learn how to create harmony within yourself so you can live an optimal life.

Calm Your Thoughts: How to Stop Overthinking, Battle Stress, Stop Spiraling, and Start Living

We've all experienced the displeasure of overthinking and how it seems to permeate every inch of our lives. However, Calm Your Thoughts has answers for how to lessen the chance we'll turn to our familiar frenemy. From learning how to remain calm in stressful situations to not letting your anxiety control your day, you'll learn how to embrace a life that doesn't involve choosing to be stressed.

Get Out of Your Head: Stopping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts

This Christian-based book offers an answer to those who feel they're being punished on their faith-walk. It's a nice alternative to hearing, "Oh, just get over it," and offers tangible ways to rely on God so that you're able to hold your thoughts captive.

Winning the War in Your Mind: Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life

Winning the War in Your Mind is another faith-based book that's perfect for those who want to continue learning how not to let every single thought they have control how they live their lives. Combining religion and science, Groeschel's goal is to help you identify harmful, repetitive thoughts so you can break free from them.

You, Happier: The 7 Neuroscience Secrets of Feeling Good Based on Your Brain Type

Did you know that happiness is more than a feeling? If not, You, Happier helps you understand how happiness is directly linked to our brains. Dr. Amen's work has allowed him to figure out how different brain types are influenced by it and how we can work to be happier.

Fuel Your Brain, Not Your Anxiety: Stop the Cycle of Worry, Fatigue, and Sugar Cravings with Simple Protein-Rich Foods

Anxiety has a way of showing up when we least expect it. Even if we have a good understanding of our triggers, it can still feel hard not to rely on 'comfort' habits or foods. However, Fuel Your Brain, Not Your Anxiety is here to help us make necessary changes. It reveals how foods can affect our emotions and thoughts instead of treating them differently.

Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself

This is a book that has helped me tremendously. I started reading it during my first year of motherhood and it helped me identify ways I was afraid to set boundaries in different areas of my life. It's a good read for anyone who's struggling to do the same, but wants to be more intentional about how they interact with others and vice versa!

I also recommending using The Set Boundaries Workbook while you read through this book!

The Negativity Fast: Proven Techniques to Increase Positivity, Reduce Fear, and Boost Success

When you hear that someone is fasting, they're usually referring to refraining from eating for a certain period of time. However, there are different types of fasts you can do and one of them involves unsubscribing from negativity. The Negativity Fast breaks down how we're affected by negative things while also sharing techniques to help you focus on positivity.

The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery

The Road Back to You is a great read for anyone who's looking for a deeper understanding of Enneagrams and how to identify theirs. Not only that, but it shares how you can discover more of yourself after learning about your personality traits.

Self-Esteem: A Proven Program of Cognitive Techniques for Assessing, Improving, and Maintaining Your Self-Esteem

While it seems like others have a healthy dose of self-esteem, it's possible that you've struggled with yours at different points. If so, you're not alone as we've had ups and downs with ours too. The good thing about Self-Esteem is that it provides therapist-backed techniques that'll help you improve and maintain your confidence.

The Empowerment Paradox: Seven Vital Virtues to Turn Struggle Into Strength

As much as we'd love to live a life that's free from struggles, we're bound to face hardship at some point. Instead of succumbing to it, The Empowerment Paradox wants us to learn how to view whatever we're struggling with differently.

The Happiness Recipe: A Powerful Guide to Living What Matters

This golden book is another example of how much we're in control of our happiness. It shows how we tend to let outside circumstances dictate how we feel and explains why we have the power the change that.

Choose Joy: Relieve Burnout, Focus on Your Happiness, & Infuse More Joy into Your Everyday Life

If the cover doesn't immediately bring a smile to your face, the title should. Choose Joy is a beautiful display of exercises that you can apply to your daily life to reduce everything from stress to how you react to opposing views from well-meaning loved ones.

Last month I chatted Amanda Montell by mentioning the glaring loneliness epidemic that's taken over lately. While we had a great conversation about overcoming our overthinking, it really got me wondering: how did we get here?

According to a study conducted by the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, the pandemic and our increased reliance on technology seems to be the source of the collective social decline we’re experiencing. In 2022 — two years out from the 2020 lockdowns — only 39% of adults reported feeling emotionally close to others. For those of us who consider ourselves to be introverts, this may feel par for the social course — but it really isn't.

There's potential for greater health concerns here, both mentally and physically. Dr. Murthy discovered that a prolonged decline in social connection with others “...can increase your risk of heart disease by 29% and risk of stroke by 32%.” That’s no laughing matter, especially if heart disease runs in your family like it does in mine.

It’s something Eric Liu, CEO of Citizen University elaborated on during an episode of NPR’sMorning Edition podcast last year. He said, “When you are alone and disconnected, there’s more stress, there’s more inflammation, there’s more anxiety.” And while some of us prefer our own company, statistics show that's not always the healthiest choice for us in the long run.

To understand all this even more, I spoke with Licensed Perinatal Mental Health & Trauma Therapist Becca Reed, LCSW, PMH-C. Together, we broke down how we can combat the loneliness epidemic and positively affect our health at the same time. Here's what I learned!

How prevalent is the loneliness epidemic actually?

Image via Liza Summer/Pexels

I've joked with my sister that there seems to be a change in the way people interact with each other since the pandemic, but there's some truth to it. Reed says, "Since the pandemic began, I've observed a marked increase in feelings of loneliness across various age groups. What’s particularly interesting is the depth of loneliness people have expressed, even after moving back into engaging in normal activities."

Think about the last time you went to the grocery store — did it seem like some people exist in their own worlds without apparent regard for others? It could very well be a symptom of this very epidemic. "Many of my clients have reported feeling disconnected not just from others, but also from parts of themselves. The pandemic disrupted our regular social habits and created a void that many are still learning how to fill," explains Reed.

Does social media play a role in the way we perceive introversion and loneliness?

Image via Arina Krasnikova/Pexels

I can't completely shun social media because it's introduced me to different brands, people, and even my career as a journalist. However, I've also wondered if social media has a major influence on the way we think and interact with the world around us — especially in regards to introversion and loneliness. Reed believes there's more to it than that.

"Our lifestyles and societal values greatly influence how we view introversion and loneliness. For instance, highly individualistic cultures, like in the U.S., often celebrate extroversion," she says before adding, "This celebration can make quieter, introverted ways of engaging with the world seem less valuable."

This may pose an issue for those who are always busy and aren't actively interacting with others beyond a surface level. Reed says, "Additionally, our busy modern lifestyles are filled with long work hours and personal commitments. This can leave little room for deep, sustained social interactions. As a result, those who may not reach out actively can feel further isolated."

What are some signs that someone is experiencing loneliness?

Image via Ivan Samkov/Pexels

Dr. Murthy also told NPR, “Some people react to loneliness by withdrawing and getting quiet. Others react to loneliness by becoming irritable and angry, and they may lash out more” before adding “...sometimes we need somebody else to tell us, ‘Hey, you’ve been withdrawing more’ to help us understand we might actually be dealing with loneliness.”

This is something that Reed also reiterated. She says, "Signs of loneliness frequently include significant changes in mood and behavior. This might look like increased irritability, persistent sadness, or withdrawal from usual activities" while "Physically, loneliness might manifest through disrupted sleep patterns or a change in appetite."

From personal experience, I've been known to dissociate if I'm feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or upset so I'm very familiar with exacerbating any loneliness I've felt by withdrawing. This also resulted in spending a lot of days in my early 20s sleeping when I wasn't working or remaining in my room with the door locked.

"If you notice a loved one seeming unusually quiet, canceling plans more frequently, or expressing feelings of emptiness, they might be experiencing loneliness," warns Reed.

How can we combat the loneliness epidemic in our daily interactions?

Image via Pavel Danilyuk/Pexels

If you've noticed that you're being affected by the loneliness epidemic, there are different ways to combat it. Reed says, "Small daily interactions can be very impactful to combating loneliness. Simply making eye contact, sharing a smile with a stranger, or having a quick chat with a neighbor can foster a sense of connection." This sounds so Starbucks and Bookstore-coded for those of us who don't want to feel overwhelmed by anything grand.

At the same time, Reed says there are things we can do in our personal relationships to help us start feeling a sense of community again. "Reaching out regularly to friends and family through calls, messages, and face-to-face interactions is essential. Building a community around shared interests, can also help bridge the isolation gap," she shares.

Is the loneliness epidemic going to be a prolonged problem, or is it possible to turn around?

Image via Alena Darmel/Pexels

Like other things, it can seem like the loneliness epidemic won't get any better. But, Reed wants you to have hope. "While it's possible the impact of the pandemic on social interactions could be a prolonged issue, humans are inherently driven to connect." Though she says, "The pandemic has intensified social anxieties and shifted communication habits."

This can look like people finding it difficult to interact with others the way they used to (hi social anxiety). Still, that doesn't mean we have to approach things as if there's nothing to look forward to in terms of interacting with others. Reed says, "People are finding new ways to engage with each other as we be come more aware of the impacts of loneliness and actively work towards building stronger, more resilient community networks. This adaptability is a positive sign that we're moving towards more interaction again, despite the challenges."

All we can do is turn lemons into lemonade as we continue to find new normals that support our lifestyles, communication, and connection needs.

Taylor Swift has done it again, folks. On August 28, 2022 while accepting her record-breaking third Video of the Year award — and after acknowledging that for the first time, there were four (!!!) women directors in the category — Swift announced that she would be releasing her brand new album Midnights on October 21, 2022. It was her first new album since evermore in December 2020, and with the magical feel of fire and Swift's makeup, we are loving the grunge-meets-glitter aesthetic.

With lyrics like "And it's 2 a.m. and I'm cursing your name" in "The Way I Loved You" and "The lingering question kept me up. 2 a.m., who do you love?" in "Enchanted," we knew this was one concept album Swift would knock out of the park. And she did not disappoint — it's definitely one of her best albums! Keep reading for everything you need to know about Midnights, the Eras Tour, and all her surprise songs.

Is Taylor Swift in Bridgerton?

Image via Liam Daniel/Netflix

Yes, a Midnights song is featured in season 3 ofBridgerton, which drops May 16! "Snow on the Beach" will play during an episode of the series, and considering this is my favorite Taylor Swift song, I am over the moon. Here's the rest of the tracklist for now:

  • “abcdefu” (Gayle) by Vitula
  • “Dynamite” (BTS) by Vitamin String Quartet
  • “Jealous” (Nick Jonas) by Shimmer
  • “Cheap Thrills” (Sia) by Vitamin String Quartet
  • “Happier Than Ever” (Billie Eilish) by Vitamin String Quartet
  • “Snow on the Beach” (Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey) by Atwood Quartet
  • “Give Me Everything” (Pitbull) by Archer Marsh

How many 2024 Grammy nominations does Taylor Swift's Midnights have?

Image via Kevin Winter/Getty Images for The Recording Academy

The 2024 Grammy nominations were announced on November 10 and Taylor Swift got a total of six nominations: Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, Best Pop Solo Performance for "Anti-Hero", Best Pop Duo/Group Performance “Karma (feat. Ice Spice)", Song of the Year for “Anti-Hero” with Jack Antonoff, Record of the Year for "Anti-Hero", and Album of the Year for Midnights.

She ended up winning Best Pop Vocal Album — but Taylor Swift's Midnights also won Album of the Year, making her the first person in history to win the award four times. Taylor continues to break records and we are totally here for it!

How many songs does Midnights have?

Image via Jack Antonoff/Instagram

Taylor Swift's Midnights features 13 songs (which also happens to be her lucky number). We finally got the full tracklist on October 7 — or so we thought. After the whole album dropped at midnight on October 21, Swift made a surprise drop of seven extra tracks at 3am!

The album features some collabs. Track 4, "Snow On The Beach," features Lana Del Rey. We're over the moon because this has been a featured artist we've wanted for so long! Not only is Del Rey singing but Dylan O'Brien (who starred in All Too Well: The Short Film) plays the drums on the track.

Swift worked with Jack Antonoff to produce Midnights, and wrote songs with Antonoff, Joe Alwyn, and Zoë Kravitz, among others. Jack opened up to Vulture about the process of recording the album, and admitted his close friendship with Taylor helped the process more than just about anything else — and how Midnights' closer might not have made it onto the album!

"We made the bulk of [Midnights] in my apartment," he says in the interview. "['Mastermind'] a strange little song, and it just reminded me of the kind of thing that you can do with really close friends, whereas if it was a new relationship, you might not be able to dare to suck. Like, just try some weird shit. Because every once in a while, when you really throw yourself out there, you actually get the stuff that’s the most brilliant."

What is the Eras Tour?

Image via Capital One/Taylor Swift/Instagram

This is the first time Taylor Swift has gone on tour since ending the Reputation tour in 2018. Taylor Swift's newest tour covers all of her "eras, stories, songs, and late nights" together. Not only will fans get to see Swift but her opening acts include names like Paramore, Gracie Abrams, and Phoebe Bridgers. We're freaking out. As Miss Swift herself once said, "Baby let the games begin!"

Taylor also announced International Dates on June 20 and the second leg of the US tour on August 3! (Plus some extra Canadian dates November 2!) It's never too late to break out your best Taylor Swift costume and figure out concert tickets 👀.

In her December 2023 Person of the Year profile with TIME Magazine, Taylor talked about how she's known the tour was a big deal from the very beginning.

“I knew this tour was harder than anything I’d ever done before by a long shot,” she says. “Every day I would run on the treadmill, singing the entire set list out loud...Fast for fast songs, and a jog or a fast walk for slow songs.”

Taylor used a program her gym created just for her to help with her stamina, and worked with choreographer Mandy Moore, who BFF Emma Stone recommended. “I had three months of dance training, because I wanted to get it in my bones,” Taylor tells TIME. But instead of only training for endurance, she wanted to train for an even more important reason: “I wanted to be so over-rehearsed that I could be silly with the fans, and not lose my train of thought.”

And that's exactly what happened! Taylor has become so comfortable and confident onstage that she can make funny faces, improv dance moves, and mess around with her background dancers — and the show continues without a hitch. It's genuinely fun to watch and even more fun to recreate her dances! Taylor also admits that after a stretch of shows, she takes an entire day to relax and eat in bed, which might be the most relatable thing she's ever said.

Is You're Losing Me on Spotify?

Yes, "You're Losing Me" is finally on Spotify! In honor of Spotify naming Taylor Swift their Top Global Artist, she released the fan favorite track on streaming platforms. Before November 29, it had only been on exclusive physical copies of Midnights!

What is the Eras Tour Concert Film?

Image via TAS/Disney+

Taylor Swift fans can relive their concert experience thanks to the Eras Tour Concert Film, a fall movie that Taylor says "has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far."

"I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon," Taylor Swift continues in an Instagram post. "Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged." You can stream an alternate version on Disney+ now!

What is Midnights about?

Image via Taylor Swift/UMG

Midnights chronicles over a dozen different sleepless nights throughout Taylor's life. Fans speculated whether it would have a toned-down, alternative sound or be a rock album like the one fans are convinced was supposed to drop in 2016. Turns out, it has more of a dreamy, ethereal pop finish that feels like 1989and reputation's big sister. Once again, Swift masterfully pairs an upbeat, glittery sound with deep and emotional lyrics for an unbeatable combo.

As far as lyrics go, the songs cover the kind of love, heartbreak, and self-loathing that keep Swift (and us) up at night. Our favorite lines so far are "Falling in a dream/Stars by the pocketful" from "Snow on the Beach" and "Draw the cat eye sharp enough to kill a man" from "Vigilante Shit."

"You should find another guiding light, guiding light/But I shine so bright" from "Dear Reader" is another memorable line that reveals how difficult it is for Swift to have so many people looking to her in moments when it feels like her life is falling apart.

Where can I listen to Midnights?

Image via Taylor Swift/Instagram

Taylor Swift had a whole release week schedule full of late night appearances, music video drops, and record + CD drops. You can listen to the album on Spotify and Apple Music.

Are there any exclusive editions?

Image via Taylor Swift Store/UMG

There are three alternate versions of Midnights. The cool thing is that when you put all four together, the images on the back turn into a clock! You can also buy the Midnights and displays. Taylor also announced on May 24, 2023 that her shows in East Rutherford, New Jersey (which she's playing May 26, 27, and 28) would be selling a special edition CD featuring the Midnights vault track "You're Losing Me."

What Songs Are On Midnights?

Swift posted a TikTok on September 21, 2022 where she revealed that she'd be revealing us the names of the tracks one at a time at random. The first track she revealed was Track 13 (of course), titled "Mastermind." And on October 7, we finally got the full tracklist for the standard version.

Taylor Swift's Music Videos For Midnights

The video for “Karma (feat. Ice Spice)” has SO many looks — and Easter eggs — that it's hard to keep track of all of them! Our personal favorite look is when Taylor's in the lightbulb. 💡

The video for the album opener, "Lavender Haze," was released on January 27 at midnight and features some seriously beautiful imagery. Check out our theory video here!

The video for "Bejeweled," an updated Cinderella retelling, was released on October 25th. This music video is filled to the brim with Easter eggs!

The music video for "Anti-Hero," which follows two separate Taylors who seem to be against each other, was released on October 21.

Celebrity Cookbooks Based On Delicious Drinks

Single AF Cocktails: Drinks for Bad B*tches by Ariana Madix

You know what Ariana Madix's Single AF Cocktails drink recipe book reminds me of Rapper JT's song "Okay." I literally can't get it out of my head, especially her CTA at the beginning: "Where my bad b-tches at?"

It's no secret that each season of Bridgerton focuses on a new couple within the titular Bridgerton family — and season 3 (which drops its first four episodes on May 16) is all about Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. Not only did series lead Nicola Coughlan tell us that she loves how Penelope is "becoming a woman and finding her self-worth — that side of her I really loved getting to play. It was great," but Nicola and Luke Newton also received some awesome advice from their onscreen siblings Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey that's actually super relatable.

At the New York premiere during the Bridgerton World Tour, Simone Ashley (who plays season 2 lead Kate Sharma) revealed her advice was to find a friend. "Me and Nicola would check in on each other," she tells People. "She is such an inspiration to me and I learned so much from her and there were times she was giving me advice. So, it was just what an amazing thing to have in your work environment."

Luke Newton had a similar approach to the new season after watching his onscreen brother Jonathan Bailey, who plays Kate's husband Anthony Bridgerton, handle his turn in the spotlight. “We talk all the time, and it was really nice in season 2 seeing how he conducted himself on set, knowing that I’d be next,” Luke says in an interview with InStyle. "[He's] been there kind of the whole way for me.

I love seeing the relationships between all the Bridgerton cast members unfold as time moves on. Whether it's Florence Hunt (Hyacinth Bridgerton) reuniting with Jonathan Bailey at a red carpet, or it's Hannah Dodd (Francesca Bridgerton) screaming about how she loves Claudia Jessie (Eloise Bridgerton) in our interview for the series, it's clear this cast LOVES each other. And I wouldn't have it any other way!

Get ready to bend and snap like never before, because not only are we getting a Legally Blonde 3 movie, but a Legally Blonde TV show is also coming to Prime Video! The new TV show will serve as a spinoff of The Morning Show star's franchise from the early 2000s (plus Legally Blondes — IYKYK). Keep reading for all the important info that'll make you want to use legal jargon in everyday life ;).

Is there a Legally Blonde TV show?

Image via Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

Yes, a Legally Blonde TV show is coming to Prime Video! The official logline of the show promises it "follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first ‘Legally Blonde’ film."

Deadline sources say Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine will be behind the series based on the beloved film franchise. Nobody knows Legally Blonde as well as Reese, so if she has any kind of creative input, I know it's going to be worth watching!

Will Reese Witherspoon be in the Legally Blonde TV show?

There's no word on the cast yet, but considering the series is a prequel, we probably won't see Reese Witherspoon back as Elle. However, I'd love for her to make a cameo! (This could also be the perfect opportunity for Reese Witherspoon's daughter Ava Phillippe to make her acting debut!) Either way, it looks like Reese will still be involved in the production of the show.

“I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?!” Reese says in a statement to Variety. “Legally Blonde is back!”

Who's working on Reese Witherspoon's Legally Blonde TV show?

The new Legally Blonde TV show will reportedly be written by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who developed and executive produced Gossip Girl. Legally Blonde producer Marc Platt will also work on the series alongside Hello Sunshine's Lauren Neustadter. Creator Laura Kittrell will be showrunner and executive producer.

When can I watch Reese Witherspoon's Legally Blonde TV show?

Image via Metro Goldwyn Mayer

The new Legally Blonde TV show is in the earliest stages of pre-production right now, so it'll be quite a while before we're able to cozy up on the couch to watch (wearing our best pink pajamas, of course). Until then, you can stream Legally Blonde, Legally Blonde 2, and Legally Blondes on Max as many times as you want.

How old was Reese Witherspoon when she shot Legally Blonde?

Image via Vince Bucci/Getty Images

Reese Witherspoon was around 24 or 25 years old when she shot the first Legally Blonde movie. Aside from the fact that Reese embodies Elle Woods better than anyone, her age works perfectly because Elle is a college senior at the beginning of the film, meaning the character is also in her early 20s.
