5 Paint Palettes That Will be Huge in Home Decor Next Year

Inspiration is all around us — whether you’re getting your ideas from movies, fashion, history or Pinterest, we know your creativity never takes a break. With summer in full swing and spring cleaning long behind us, we’re betting that you’re channeling that creativity into a new paint color or two for your home. To help out, Dunn Edwards Paints has released their annual color trends report, predicting the most popular color trends for 2016. The report, titled 2016:Home, outlines five paint palettes that elicit different emotions and color schemes within a home. Whether you are trying to keep things romantic or going for a tranquil retreat, there is a color to match your vision. We’re breaking down each of Dunn Edwards Paints’ trendy color schemes, making it easy to find the one that best works for you.

Influenced by the wild colors of Rio de Janeiro, Indian spices and artist Frida Kahlo, this palette screams foreign culture. Mixing deep blues with bright, pinky purples, this scheme is perfect for the traveler full of wanderlust.

To the Manor Born

Clearly gaining inspiration from the Middle Ages and Romanticism, this scheme is phantasmagorical. The colors associated with “To the Manor Born” are neutral, with lots of fleshtones, pinks and varying shades of gray. With a palette name this romantic, the scheme is perfect for passionate thinkers.

Back at the Ranch

This palette is an earthy one, drawing inspiration from Western ranches. “Back at the Ranch” demands a sun-filled space, using natural colors like cinnamon with bright gold and red accents. Decor for this style is simple, mostly using wood, leather and embroidery to recreate that Santa Fe style.

An Island to Myself

This trend is perhaps the simplest. Focusing on bridging the gap between the digital and the spiritual, “An Island to Myself” features muted colors like gray and taupe. Combine it with blue, violet and white to create a soft, calming space. Because of the pureness of this trend, creative or visionary types tend to gravitate to this scheme.

Summer Camp

This style is the most homey, recreating summertime by tapping into playful colors and retro design schemes. You cannot help but reminisce about summers past with this theme, which is why it appeals to the most nostalgic among us.

You can view or download the entire 2016 color and trends report, which includes a design checklist, color palette and decorating ideas to help make your space the best reflection of yourself.

Trouble sleeping? It could be your bedroom decor that’s keeping you from your best sleep ever. “When thinking about creating a bedroom sanctuary, keep these three key questions in mind,” says Joshua Smith, principal and founder of Vermont-based Joshua Smith Inc. “How does it look? How does it feel? How does it sound?” From decor to lighting to sound, here are ways to avoid some common bedroom decor mistakes that might be preventing you from getting the sleep you need. Your investment in a good night's sleep can help improve your weight, your mood, and avoid health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, and more. So have a good restful night with our designer tips.

Bedroom Decor Mistake #1: Excessive Clutter

Design: Joshua Smith Inc. | Photo: Peter Murdock

Instead: Make Your Bed and Get Organized

Clutter can create this sense of chaos in your life, which can negatively impact your ability to relax and fall asleep. "Keeping a tidy space is essential for allowing your thoughts to settle and your body to wind down," says Smith. "Be sure to keep surfaces clutter-free and make your bed in the morning to create a welcoming experience after a long day." Organize your closets and drawers so that it's easy to put clothes away too.

Mistake #2: Too Many Energetic Colors

Design: Victoria Holly Interiors | Photo: Lauren Engel

Instead: Use Bright Colors In Moderation

Bold and bright colors can be visually stimulating (which is why we love them) but they also can make it harder for your mind to relax and wind down before sleep. "When creating a calming and serene atmosphere, we like to feature lighter colors in soothing blues, greens, ivories, beiges, and other pastels," says Victoria Holly, principal and founder of LA-based Victoria Holly Interiors. "But realistically different people find different colors calming, so we like to make sure that we're tailoring calming colors to our clients."

Mistake #3: Too Much Technology

Design: Joshua Smith Inc. | Photo: Tim Lenz

Instead: Keep Tech Out of the Bedroom (Try It For A Week)

We've all heard about how the blue light from devices can negatively impact our natural sleep cycle. Devices can also delay when you go to sleep and how long you sleep. Try leaving them out of the bedroom for a week – charge them outside of the room – and see how your sleep improves. "Remove any distractions that could keep you awake or cause stress, like work related items and yes, the TV too," adds Smith.

Mistake #4: Uncomfortable Bed + Bedding

Design: Victoria Holly Interiors | Photo: Lauren Engel

Instead: Invest In Quality Bedding

"The most important thing when it comes to the bedroom is to invest in a quality mattress and bedding that feels good to you," says Smith. Has it been more than 10 years since you replaced your mattress, or is your current one causing you discomfort? Invest in a quality mattress and find comfortable, layered bedding in natural materials like cotton and linen.

Bedroom Decor Mistake #5: Temperature Extremes

Design: Maestri Studio | Photo: Par Bengtsson

Instead: Keep Temps In The Upper 60s

A bedroom that is too hot or too cold can mess with your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep comfortably. Open the windows to bring in fresh air during the day and maintain a comfy temperature by using fans, heaters, or adjusting your thermostat. Experts recommend keeping your thermostat between 65 to 68 degrees F for the most comfortable sleep.

Mistake #6: Shabby Window Treatments

Brad Ramsey Interiors | Photo: Jack Gardner

Instead: Opt For Blackout Curtains

Light exposure from streetlights or sunlight streaming in through uncovered windows can disrupt your sleep patterns. Splurge on blackout curtains instead. "Blackout curtains are a welcome addition to a bedroom as they allow uninterrupted darkness for a restful sleep through the night and into the light of early morning," says Eddie Maestri, principal architect and creative director of Dallas-based Maestri Studio.

Mistake #7: Poor Lighting

Design: Joshua Smith Inc. | Photo: Lance Gerber

Instead: Choose Soft, Dimmable Lights

Bedside lamps or wall sconces create a cozy space ideal for relaxing. "Having the right lighting makes all the difference in the world when it comes how your bedroom feels," says Smith. "Soft lighting from floor and accent table lamps are best for the bedroom verses harsh overhead lighting."

Mistake #8: It Doesn't Feel Inviting

Design: Wendy Smit Interiors

Instead: Incorporate Items That Bring You Joy

Imagine walking into a hotel room that makes you feel sad or stressed out. You'd probably not hang around, or choose that hotel again. Treat your bedroom as a beautiful getaway that serves as a place for rest above anything else. "Incorporate items that bring you joy and evoke a sense of peace and serenity, such as artwork of nature scenes, plants, or meaningful photos of you and your partner," says Smith.

Mistake #9: Creaky Floors

Photo: Joshua Smith Inc. | Photo: Lisa Romerin

Instead: Cover Floors In Comfy Materials

Floors make a big difference in how your bedroom looks, feels, and sounds. "Carpeting your bedroom or adding a soft area rug helps soften any harsh noises like footsteps," says Smith. Area rugs should extend beyond both sides of the bed and provide enough comfort for bare feet.

Bedroom Decor Mistake #10: Not Managing Noise

Design: Living with Lolo | Photo: Life Created

Instead: Block Noise With A Sound Machine

If you live in a city, you likely have some street noise or the sound of noisy neighbors playing in the background. Earplugs can help but there are ways to block the noise disrupting your sleep with your decor. "Consider a sound machine for ambient noise that will help to drown out distractions and steady the mind, allowing the body to relax and recharge," says Smith. "Window drapery also helps to dampen any outside noises. Consider long flowing treatments for a soft, ethereal vibe."

We can't believe that the first season of The Golden Bachelor is complete. Where has the time gone?! Well, at least we know it's been well-spent with love, fun, and laughs. That's *exactly* what Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner, and winner of the show, Theresa Nist, have been up to since getting engaged during the finale.

The couple's wedding ceremony took place during the season finale of The Golden Bachelor, with the happy couple saying their "I do"s on live television. Here's to forever, Gerry and Theresa. ❤️

Here's what the two lovebirds have been up to since the very first The Golden Bachelor wedding!

"The Golden Bachelor" Couple Are Ending Their Marriage

Image via Disney/John Fleenor

Just when we thought things were working well for "The Golden Bachelor" couple, they decided to announce the end of their short-lived marriage on Good Morning America. Gerry Turner told host Juju Chang, "Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and -- and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to -- dissolve our marriage."

Theresa Nist clarified that she doesn't want the people who rooted for them to believe love and marriage are hopeless. "We want none of that to change for anybody," she said.

We're sure that they truly had a connection, but it's not easy trying to navigate merging your life with someone no matter how old you are. It seems that Gerry and Theresa couldn't bear the thought of one of them being separated from their families, ultimately resulting in the tough decision that getting married may not have been the best thing to do.

We hope that they take as much time as they need to continue navigating their decision to end their public marriage.

"The Golden Bachelor" Blended Family Went On "Celebrity Family Feud"

Disney / John Fleenor

Gerry and Theresa's newly-blended family revealed that they filmed an episode of Celebrity Family Feud in early April – and their opposing team wasn't that unfamiliar!

Theresa's daughter Jen posted some behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram, noting that the family went up against more Bachelor Nation members like Joey Graziadei, Kelsey Anderson, Charity Lawson, Dotun Olubeko, Zach Shallcross, and Kaity Biggar for their episode of Celebrity Family Feud.

Jen also gave us loose details about when the episode would officially air, writing in the caption of her Instagram post: "you’ll have to watch to see how it went down but no I’m not really sure when it’s going to be on… August?!"

Gerry posted a little preview too, saying that he "had a GREAT time at Celebrity Family Feud with the blended family."

Gerry's daughter Angie seemed super excited about being on Celebrity Family Feud as well, writing in her Instagram post that her dreams were fulfilled being on the show.

"Since I was little I wanted to be on family feud," she wrote. "I would dream about it and assemble my team in my mind. Yesterday…it happened!!!! We played celebrity family feud!!! It was so much fun."

A Recap Of "The Golden Bachelor" Wedding

Gerry and Theresa got married during a live taping of The Golden Wedding, and there were hardly any dry eyes during their sweet ceremony. To help them celebrate their new nuptials, former The Golden Bachelor contestant Susan Noles was their officiant. It felt like a full circle moment for Bachelor Nation, because more familiar faces could be seen in the audience, like Trista and Ryan Sutter.

Peoplereports that Gerry and Theresa's respective daughters gave heartfelt speeches that touched everyone. Gerry's daughters Angie and Jenny shared how proud they are of their dad before turning their attention to Theresa. Jenny said, "he found a fantastic woman that is beautiful inside and out to spend the rest of his life with."

Theresa's daughter Jen echoed their sentiments. She said, "we're beyond thrilled that you’ve brought us together as family."

Towards the end of the ceremony, Gerry could be heard telling guests, "I have a whole new outlook on life because of this journey and because of this woman." So cute!

Everything Gerry And Theresa Said About "The Golden Bachelor" Wedding

Disney / John Fleenor

After a long season, Gerry finally found his sweetheart. Theresa Nist, a financier from New Jersey, won the show with the ultimate gesture of love: a darling proposal from Gerry at the season finale! Despite the joyous ending, picking a final woman wasn't an easy decision for Gerry:

“I met some of the women and recognized they were beautiful and gracious and intelligent, but they weren't the right woman for me,” Gerry told People. “I had to find the right person.”

The lovely couple couldn't stop gushing about how thrilled they were as their big day approached. Their respective families are also over the moon, with Theresa's daughter and Gerry's granddaughters jumping on the opportunity to help celebrate.

“My daughter, she's seen a million weddings and she is incredible," Theresa said of her daughter, Jen. "She's put together the vision board. She's asking me, ‘Do you like this? Do you like this?’ And I go, ‘Wow, okay, I don't even have to do this. This is awesome.’ She's handling it pretty much.”

Gerry's daughters and granddaughters also attended the wedding.

“They're all involved,” he said. “There's a spot for every family member in the wedding party. We wouldn't have it any other way. It’s going to be spectacular.”

"The Golden Bachelor" Fantasy Suites Recap

Disney / John Fleenor

The Golden Bachelor fantasy suites episode followed Gerry and the last two contestants, Leslie and Theresa all the way to Costa Rica, where they were given the opportunity to get... closer.

Sure, the fantasy suites provides massive potential for physical connection (or "knocking boots," as Gerry put it), but the Golden Bach was focused on emotions more than anything this time around:

“[To] ask the difficult questions that are strictly between two people, and also have the opportunity to be physically intimate with each other,” he said on the show. “At this age, it’s more gentle, it’s slow, it’s something you can savor, because it’s something that’s the most special [thing] you can have.”

Before he could elicit official invites for the fantasty suites, Gerry took both women on some *quite* adventurous individual dates. He rappelled down a waterfall with Leslie, and rode horses through the wilderness with Theresa. At the end of each date, he asked each woman to join him in the fantasty suite.

Whether boots were knocked or not, it was hard to narrow down who Gerry was really into after the fantasy suites episode. He told both Leslie and Theresa "I love you," but Gerry ultimately made a decision about who won his heart over.

“I headed towards the end, I was really in conflict about several of the women,” Gerry told People. “As very specific events occurred, it really helped me gain clarity on what I wanted to do.”

The Ladies Move Into the Mansion - The Golden Bachelor

Every season, there’s always a handful of contestants who make unforgettable first impressions, and this time was no different.

Some of the most noteworthy ladies from the show included Sandra, a 75-year-old retired executive assistant from Doraville, Georgia. The most seasoned of the bunch kicked her first interaction with Gerry off with a sensual meditation session where she proclaimed her love for the “F” and “S” words. Same girl, same.

Theresa, a 70-year-old financial services professional from Shrewsbury, New Jersey, bared it all on her first meeting with Gerry. It was her cake day after all, and she figured there was no better time to show off her birthday suit than the show's first episode. LOL.

Faith, a 60-year-old high school teacher from Benton City, Washington, exuded cool-girl energy with a head-turning stunt. Riding in on a motorcycle with hair whipping, and even shocking audiences with a guitar solo, there’s no surprise that she walked away with a little kiss (and the first impression rose).

One of our favorite step-outs of the first night was Leslie, 64, who left the limo in a gray wig, a muumuu nightgown, and a walker to boot. But – after pulling off the guise to reveal a show-stopping sparklingly dress, the retired dancer proved that she’s anything but geriatric. And also, apparently Prince ( yes, *the* Prince) wrong a song about her?! Talk about an “it" girl.

A quiet, lesser known pocket of Beverly Hills known as Beverly Hills Post Office (BHPO) shares the same popular zip code but is tucked up in the hills north of BH proper, where you'll score scenic ocean views. Amanda Leigh and Taylor Hahn of celeb-loved L.A. design firm House of Rolison were tasked with reimagining a 1950s Beverly Hills home in the coveted neighborhood for a modern era.

Photo: Nils Timm

“It's our priority to maintain and enhance the original charm and soul of our homes,” says Leigh. Before the stunning reno, the home lacked a sense of flow with cramped rooms and a narrow kitchen, and had thick, dated carpeting throughout.

Photo: Nils Timm

“The home was a bit of a mish mosh of styles, and had not been updated in quite some time,” adds Leigh. “We wanted to give it a cohesive style, while bringing light to its show pieces.”

Photo: Nils Timm

Those show pieces included its wood vaulted ceilings that had been painted over, and the original fireplaces that had been closed and were no longer functioning properly.

Photo: Nils Timm

The House of Rolison team breathed new life into the home, adding additional square footage and natural light, maximizing the home's stunning ocean and city views.

Photo: Nils Timm

The fireplaces throughout the Beverly Hills home were restored, the ceiling stripped of its old paint, and the decor infused with a calming neutral earthy palette that grounds the design.

Photo: Nils Timm

“BHPO has a lot of renaissance revival homes and this home was much more traditional. We wanted to make the home feel more tied into the homes of the area, while giving it its own playful flare,” says Leigh.

Photo: Nils Timm

Leigh and Hahn let the home speak for itself, using restraint in terms of deconstruction and preserving a lot of the cool mid-century charm. The fireplaces exude warmth beyond raising the temperature.

Photo: Nils Timm

“There were sections of wood paneling, original to the home, that inspired a lot of the design. Funny enough, during deconstruction, the original paneling completely fell apart," says Hahn. "We ended up rebuilding it, in a way that was more flattering to the space, and made it feel much more elevated.”

Photo: Nils Timm

Bold natural stones are used in the kitchen and bath. “ It really gave a playful texture and refined the design in a way that really helped the final product sing,” says Hahn.

Photo: Nils Timm

This green on green is spectacular. Bathrooms are drenched in marble, and architectural details throughout give the home a luxury vibe while still feeling not too fussy and precious. "It's less uptight than contemporary but still playful and bold," says Hahn. Moody vignettes throughout add personality and uniqueness too.

Photo: Nils Timm

“We are known for combining styles that aren't necessarily supposed to be friends, but end up playing well together.” They did that a lot here with lighting and textures. "We would say it ended up being a more transitional style, which blends contemporary and traditional. Transitional style fuses a combination of modern and classic," says Hahn.

Photo: Nils Timm

Thank you to House of Rolison for this stunning peek! Here are some BEFORE photos - eek!

We're not even through all of this year's spring movies and we're already looking ahead to the best 2025 movies coming our way! The year will be full of nostalgic favorites, long-awaited sequels, and new Marvel movies featuring all our favorite actors. Keep reading for all the new 2025 movies you need to know about, and make sure you keep tabs on which 2024 movies to see before we get to New Year's Eve!

Bridget Jones 4 — In Theaters February 14, 2025

Image via Giles Keyte/Universal Pictures

Rom-com and Jane Austenlovers rejoice: We're finally getting a fourth installment in the Bridget Jones franchise! The new 2025 movie will see our favorite diary-keeper learning what it looks like to balance motherhood with all the other responsibilities that come with adulthood.

Bridget Jones 4 hits theaters February 14 and stars Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Leo Woodall.

Disney's Live-Action Snow White — In Theaters March 21, 2025

Image via Disney

Following The Little Mermaid, the next live Disney movie will be Snow White. Disney's putting a new spin on the classic story, and our titular leading lady will be played by Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes star Rachel Zegler. I literally cannot wait to see her shine!

Snow White hits theaters March 21 and stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.

Fantastic Four — In Theaters July 25, 2025

Image via Marvel Studios

My most-anticipated 2025 movie is, without a doubt, The Fantastic Four. I've always loved this quartet (probably thanks to my love for Chris Evans in the original 2005 film), and I can't wait to see how the MCU puts their own spin on the story. They never fail to surprise, and I'm sure this will be no different.

The Fantastic Four hits theaters July 25 and stars Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Vanessa Kirby.

Scream 7 — Coming In 2025

Image via Brownie Harris/Paramount Pictures

We don't have much news on Scream 7 yet, except that Neve Campbell is returning as Sidney Prescott! We didn't see the franchise lead in Scream 6 (an absence I felt very deeply) but I know she's going to kick butt in this new movie. Whatever happens, one thing's for sure: this Ghostface is going to be the craziest yet.

Scream 7 is coming soon and will star Neve Campbell and (hopefully) Courteney Cox.

A Complete Unknown — Coming In 2025

Image via Amy Sussman/Getty Images

Timothée Chalamet's newest role might not be fictional like Dune 2's Paul Atreides, but he's just as complex. The actor is starring as a young Bob Dylan throughout his shift away from folk music in the 1960s. If you're a die-hard Bob Dylan fan, let me put your mind at ease: every photo from set makes me do a double take because Timothée looks just like him.

Timothée Chalamet's Bob Dylan movie is coming in 2025 and also stars Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Edward Norton, and Nick Offerman.

A Simple Favor 2 — Coming In 2025

Image via Lionsgate

After we see Blake Lively in It Ends With Us, we'll see her star opposite Anna Kendrick in this 2025 movie. The first A Simple Favor is one of my favorite movie experiences ever, and I'm sure this sequel is going to be even better.

A Simple Favor 2 is coming in 2025 and stars Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.

In order to avoid eczema flare ups and take on my ever-rising body temperature — getting older is wild, folks — my skincare routine now includes using aluminum-free deodorants. Instead of complaining that things differ as my body ebbs and flows, I’m learning it’s okay to embrace this new change...and sleeping sleeping with the ceiling fan on from time to time so I don't sweat all night. Luckily, I’ve discovered amazing beauty products as a result of all this, and my skin happily welcomes it.

In the market for something that won’t irritate your own skin but will fight odor? I’ve got your back with 6 aluminum-free deodorants that will be gentle on your skin, and tough on any stink.

Native Whole Body Deodorant — Coconut & Vanilla

One of the first aluminum-free deodorants I used was Native’s coconut & vanilla version. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I found that I didn’t have stinky armpits when the day ended. It doesn’t sound pleasant because it never is, but it’s the truth. The thing I love about Native’s Whole Body formula is that it can be applied to places like my under-boob area — something that never mattered before I went up a cup size.

Dove Beauty VitaminCare+ Aluminium-Free Deodorant Stick — Raspberry & Rose

I've also had the chance to try Dove Beauty's aluminum-free deodorant and I have to say I love the texture of it. It literally glides onto the skin and offers the same 72 hours of protection as my favorite Native deodorant. It's also formulated with anti-microbial peptides and niacindamide to help keep your skin free from breakouts. Niacinamide has been such a huge asset for my skin so I get excited whenever I see it in products!

Hey Humans Naturally Derived Aluminum-Free Deodorant — Banana & Aloe

Would you use a dermatologist-tested and aluminum-free deodorant that has essential oils in it? Well, I recommend you try Hey Humans naturally derived formula! Ingredients such as arrowroot powder and coconut oil are what makes this deodorant natural while the recycled packaging keeps it on the sustainable side. Did I mention there's a bit of vitamin E and shea butter in it as well?

It's like you can't go wrong with the super cute packaging and great formula!

Cleo+coco Charcoal (Aluminum-Free) Deodorant — Cocoa Beach

I'm super biased so I love scents that remind me of a relaxing spring break or summer vacation. I'm also a gourmand scent woman so there's there! What intrigues me about this company is that they understand that people have sensitive skin that doesn't always react well to chemicals. It's something I actually love about most of the aluminum-free deodorants I've discovered!

This formula actually derives from Cleo+coco's extra strength deodorant, but uses charcoal and magnesium to fight odor instead of baking soda. I know some people worry about that so wanted to make sure you feel comfortable trying this brand!

P.S. It doesn't leave behind any residue either if you're not a fan of lifting your arms to see white stains streaked across your armpits.

Lumē Whole Body Aluminum-Free Deodorant — Unscented

As much as I love aluminum-free deodorants that have yummy warm scents, I know everyone doesn't like their skincare products to smell like anything. Besides helping to eliminate body odor, this deodorant slowly evens your skin tone over time — bye, bye under arm hyperpigmentation — and reduces skin redness.

Dr. Teal’s Aluminum-Free Deodorant — Eucalyptus

Everyone please remain calm because Dr. Teal's has entered the picture with an aluminum-free deodorant that can best be described as zen in a tube. I'm exaggerating, but the formula helps you absorb any wetness you may feel from sweating thanks to ingredients like arrowroot powder.

Which aluminum-free deodorants have you tried? Let us know your faves in the comments & sign up for our newsletter for more shopping finds!
