27 Modern and Minimalist Prefab Homes

We love city life as much as the next person, but there’s something about the piles of slushy gray snow and endless weather-related traffic jams this time of year that get us daydreaming about running away to a woodland oasis. Picture this: a tiny modern house in the middle of the wilderness with a wide porch for sunset watching, a cozy wood stove and gorgeous views that go on for miles. Sure, prefab homes don’t have to be set in a remote location, but we think they’re even better off the grid. While we’re not quite ready to give up our lattes or our train pass just yet, we can’t help but admire these 27 prefab houses that make that daydream come to life.

1. Cozy Retreat: We’re ready to update our out-of-office email and ship off to this little Finland prefab. Winter hibernation is an acceptable excuse for missing work, right? (via Scandinavian Deco)

2. Spanish Prefab: This prefab home has us rethinking everything we know about small space living. At just 295 square feet, this concrete structure proves you don’t need a ton of space to create an airy and inviting home. (via Design Hunter)

3. Wooden Prefab: Unique window shapes give this A-line cabin a modern spin, while the wooden exterior helps it blend in with its surroundings. After a day of hitting the slopes, we can’t think of a cozier spot to relax in. (via Busyboo)

4. Prefab Work Space: If full-on prefab living isn’t for you, stick a tiny prefab house in your backyard and use it as an office space. (via Interior Design)

5. LEED Porch House: Ready to call it quits with the grid? Then this remote prefab is for you. Though it’d be a shame not to upload those sunsets to Instagram… (via Inhabitat)

6. Freedomky Model: This tiny space is all about style and efficiency. The streaming natural light gives the illusion of space, without actually adding any square footage. (via Busyboo)

7. Habitable Polyhedron: The wide deck on this prefab is perfect for a casual summer BBQ or an impromptu dance party (or both!). (via Architecture Daily)

8. Flake House: If Laura Ingalls Wilder was living on the prairie today, she’d probably have a modern log cabin like this one. (via Architecture Daily)

9. PodHouse: This little wooden building is perfect for an ultra-private guest room, an extravagant glamping getaway or a boozy girls’ night in. Just don’t forget the wine. (via Busyboo)

10. Modern Prefab: When half your house is a porch, you better invest in some fun patio furniture so you can get to working on your tan. (via Design Milk)

11. Summer House: While we don’t have the budget for a summer home just yet, we’ve got our eye on this super clean and modern design. Roasted marshmallows, anyone?  (via Home DSGN)

12. Hus. Ett: You’ll feel like a hobbit if you ever stay in one of these Swedish prefabs. Bring your stack of Lord of the Rings DVDS for the ultimate viewing experience. (via Homedit)

13. Shearers Quarters House: This large prefab is built on a working sheep farm in Australia. The Australian outback never looked so good. (via Architectural Daily)

14. The Crib: Retractable doors aren’t just for garages anymore. With a back porch that opens up to a lake, you’d be able to perfect your splashiest cannonball jump in no time. (via Inthralld)

15. Kenjo Outdoor Cottage: This cottage has an adjustable roof, so you can decide between an open or covered outdoor space. It’s like the architectural version of a convertible. (via Design Milk)

16. MiniMod: All the windows in this prefab will make you feel like you’re snoozing away in the wilderness, only without the bugs or woodland animals. It takes glamping to a whole new level. (via Busyboo)

17. Iron Cube: You’ll definitely be the most modern homeowner on the block with this little house that optimizes your space. (via De Seen)

18. Loft Cube: These fancy cubes can be used as hotel suites, business offices or private homes. Talk about multi-tasking. (via Loft Cube)

19. Whitstable Eco Perch: It can be built in five days and it’s eco-friendly? We’re totally in. (via Busyboo)

20. Lakeside Retreat: This Lake Ontario getaway has the perfect lake view. We’re already planning the ultimate BBQ soiree. (via Dwell)

21. Sustainable Studio: This tiny studio hides a kitchenette and bathroom. Who needs roommates when you can have all that privacy? (via Inthralld)

22. Hangar Home: A tiny home on wheels means you can treat it like an RV. Roadtrip, here we come! (via Busyboo)

23. Colored Prefab: While most are white, gray, black or brown, prefabs don’t have to be colorless. We’re all over this emerald green house. (via Blood and Champagne)

24. LEED Prefab Home: This gorgeous, environmentally-friendly prefab is filled with a casual yet sophisticated mix of textures and colors. (via Nest Design Studio)

25. Floating Prefab: If you thought houseboats were a thing of the past, think again. Pull out your preppiest nautical stripes and get ready to set sail. (via City Home Constructions)

26. Mon Huset: This cabin-like prefab maximizes space by adding a tall, lofted bed. Channel your inner Paul Bunyan with your fave plaid prints. (via Busyboo)

27. Extension: If you’re not quite ready to splurge on a second home (um, us either!), a prefab can also double as a quick and easy extension to your current home. (via Design Hunter)
