Time Zones Might Soon Be a Thing of the Past

Up until now, three things were certain in this world: death, taxes and time zones. We’re pretty solid on the first two (sorry!), but as for the third, times may be about to change (pun intended). This Sunday, we observed Daylight Savings once again. Some states have already abandoned DST (looking at you, Arizona), and many others argue that the practice is antiquated and simply not efficient. Science historian and writer James Gleick wrote an op-ed recently in The New York Timesto eschew time zones. “The time-zone map is a hodgepodge — a jigsaw puzzle by Dalí. Logically you might assume there are 24, one per hour,” he writes. “You would be wrong. There are 39, crossing and overlapping, defying the sun, some offset by 30 minutes or even 45, and fluctuating on the whims of local satraps.”

The TL;DR version is that Gleick argues we should all observe something called “Earth time.” When it’s noon in London, it should be 12 in Los Angeles. While that would mean you would probably be eating breakfast at 5pm, the only real adjustment would be in numbers. And it would be a lot easier to figure out what time it is somewhere else, because it would be the same time everywhere. The sun would just be in a different spot in the sky.

It seems super weird at first glance, we know. But we could definitely get behind this movement. Time zones are silly anyway. They just make everything confusing. And the less confusion, the better.

What do you think of “Earth time?” Let us know @BritandCo!

I'll follow Reese Witherspoon just about anywhere.Legally Blonde, Love in Fairhope, and Where the Crawdads Sing are just a few of her projects that leave me feeling totally empowered and overjoyed when I watch them. Hello Sunshine has plenty of exciting stories on the horizon, and thanks to our AMC queen Nicole Kidman, we now know that includes Big Little Lies season 3. Time to head back to Monterey!!

Will there be a season 3 of Big Little Lies?

Image via HBO

It looks like yes, there will be a Big Little Lies season 3! During the CME Group Tour Championship, Nicole Kidman talked about her involvement in the series.

"I loved Big Little Lies," she said during a Q&A (shared in an Instagram story by Deux Moi). "It sort of came along at a time in my life when I had my children and I was thinking I was going to retire. And then this situation came along, where Reese Witherspoon and I were able to produce that show and create that show. And then all of you watched it and made it a massive success...And we will be bringing you a third one, just FYI."

Laura Dern would also love to do Big Little Lies season 3! "Well, let's just say we're best friends in art and in life," Laura tells TODAY. "And there would be nothing more fun for all of us. You know, we would have the time of our lives."

Despite Zoë Kravitz admitting she didn't think the series would return, it looks like we'll get a junior season after all. *This* is the news I needed this week.

What happened at the end of Big Little Lies season 2?

Image via Hilary Bronwyn Gayle/HBO

To put it simply, Big Little Lies season 2 ended in pure chaos. Each of the Monterey Five have their own singular victories — Bonnie lets go of her husband and makes peace with her mother, Celeste gets full custody of her kids, and Madeline renews her vows to Ed — before they walk into the police station together. We're guessing it's so Bonnie can confess to her role in Perry's death, but it looks like we'll have to wait for season 3 to find out. One surprising detail about the end of season 2, however, is what *didn't* happen.

"There was someone that was supposed to die," Zoë Kravitz revealed to Vanity Fair in 2020. "It wasn’t me, but I don’t know what I’m allowed to say, so I don’t know. But someone did die. But I think the way we ended the season was obviously really intriguing, but also everyone got to come together and I think that felt important to everybody." Because that death didn't happen, it would only make sense for it to have gotten pushed to season 3...right?

When is Big Little Lies season 3 coming out?

Image via HBO

We don't have any official news about a release date, and since season 1 and season 2 released at different points of the year (as opposed to Outer Banks, which has always come out somewhere around summer), it's a bit harder to pinpoint when a new season could hit our screens. I'm hoping for a winter 2025 release date.

Who's in Big Little Lies?

Image via Jennifer Clasen/HBO

The Big Little Lies cast is almost too good to be true. In addition to Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Zoë Kravitz, the show stars Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Kathryn Newton, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgård, and Adam Scott.

What is the message of Big Little Lies?

Image via HBO

Like so many of Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine's projects, Big Little Lies explores a number of important and relevant issues families deal with in the real world: domestic violence, blended and single parent homes, and how far you're willing to go to protect the people you love.

Is there a spin off of Big Little Lies?

Image via Vince Valitutti/Hulu

Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers (which is based on the book of the same name by Liane Moriarty, who also wrote Big Little Lies!) serves as a Big Little Lies reunion of sorts — the show stars Nicole Kidman as actress and executive producer, along with Big Little Lies' producers Bruna Papandrea and David E. Kelley.

After giving us an auditory tour around London in her feel-good "London Boy," The Daily Mail reported that Taylor Swift was living in the city's colorful Primrose Hill in March 2021. But since the beginning of the Eras Tour (and since her split with actor Joe Alwyn), Taylor's been seen out and about on the New York City streets more frequently. In addition to the fact that, just like the rest of us, she's probably figuring out what a post-COVID lockdown social life looks like, I'm honestly convinced all this adds up to Taylor recording a new album. Let me explain.

Is Taylor Swift's new album called Sagittarius?

Image via Taylor Swift/Instagram

Thanks to Taylor Swift's birthday celebration — which seemed to feature a black dress code and had Zoë Kravitz, HAIM, Sabrina Carpenter, and Jack Antonoff in attendance — we have another TS11 theory on the table. Taylor's Clio Peppiatt star dress and NAEEM KHAN LTD zodiac clutch have Swifties thinking Taylor Swift's new album could be called Sagittarius. After all, that is Taylor's star sign...

How far does Taylor Swift plan her new albums?

Image via SplashPrintingCo/Etsy

We know that Taylor preps for new albums months (sometimes three years) in advance, and thanks to some sleuthing, we also have an idea at what her actual timelines look like. In April of 2020, she posted a selfie captioned, "not a lot going on at the moment." Everyone initially thought she was just referencing the shirt she wears in the "22" music video, but it turned out it was the same week she wrote folklore, which dropped in July of the same year. In short: she did, in fact, have a lot going on.

Both Swift and Blake Lively (who directed her "I Bet You Think About Me" music video in 2021) have multiple captions with the same phrase since then, and now it's officially made its way intothe Eras Tour. During the concert, (almost) every album get its own segment, and in addition to surprise songs, some nights also feature surprise costumes. One of her shirts during the Red section reads "A Lot Going On At The Moment," playing on both the original tee and the 2020 Instagram post.

Whether or not the red letters on this tour shirt actually hint at her next release like @thethriftyswiftie asks,it's still a fun and nostalgic detail that I definitely want to order off of Etsy! Plus, Taylor already knew that Speak Now (Taylor's Version) would drop next.

The "Bejeweled" music video is full of Speak Now Easter eggs, but one of the most noticeable details is the color coding. All of Taylor's albums correspond to a color, and in the music video, Taylor rides in an elevator that features buttons with a color for each album era. In addition to pressing the button for the third floor, the button after Midnights is also purple — a color synonymous with Speak Now.

On top of that? The door graphic that appears onstage at the end of the Eras Tour changed from orange to purple.

Is Taylor Swift recording new music?

Image via Republic Records/UMG/Taylor Swift.

Okay now that we're all caught up on Taylor's previous album planning, here's what else is up. On April 14, Mike Birbiglia (who played Taylor's son in the "Anti-Hero" music video) posted a photo with Taylor on the roof of Electric Lady Studios in NYC. You can also see Jack Antonoff, who's helped produce eight of Taylor's albums, in the background! She's been seen leaving the studios multiple times since then, sometimes with artists she's never collaborated with before (looking at you, Joe Keery 👀).

She was seen leaving Antonoff's recording studio before we got Midnights, and thanks to her Directors on Directors segment with Variety, we also know that she is always writing something!

"If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready," she says. Someone embroider this on a pillow.

As one of People's Most Intriguing People of the Year, Taylor Swift's friends and collaborators talk even more about just how many songs she's working with at any given time. “She never really stops writing songs,” The National's Aaron Dessner, who took part in Folklore and Evermore, tells People. “Taylor has so many stories to tell...I think she’ll keep inventing new ways and methods of writing and keep expanding this enchanted universe of her own making that we all get to enjoy.”

Paramore singer (and Speak Now (Taylor's Version) featured artist) Haley Williams totally agrees. “I’m almost afraid to say it,” she says, “but I kind of think she’s just getting started.”

Does Taylor Swift use her clothes as Easter eggs?

twitter.com

“taylor swift in nyc this month”

Taylor Swift's aesthetic is also often a good indication that something new could be in the works (like the short-lived Bleachella, which Swifties still think coincides with an unreleased rock album). The shift from Barbie doll to Bratz doll, as @kylekerch on Twitter points out, might mean more than the recent Tumblr-core renaissance. (Although Taylor, please come back to Tumblr, we miss you.)

Will Taylor Swift release a new album in 2024?

Another recent theory is thanks to Deux Moi, an Instagram account that publishes supposedly insider, always anonymous reports of future pop culture events. One of their recent postings (under the pseudonym "King of my Heart," which is also a Taylor Swift song title) says the following:

"A-List singer has been working on new music for quite a while now. They have 1 brand new album completely recorded, and two more albums in progress. New album expected in November as a completely surprise release. Probably announced during their ongoing tour."

After 1989 (Taylor's Version), Taylor Swift only has two rerecordings left: Reputation (Taylor's Version)and Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version). A longstanding theory is that the back and forth between black and blue outfits signals Reputation (TV) after 1989 (TV), but now Swifties are wondering whether those Easter eggs are actually about TS11, not Reputation (TV).

I think the fact she dropped Midnights after Red (Taylor's Version) proves Taylor is okay with releasing new music before the rerecordings are through...but only time will tell.

Is Jack Antonoff on Taylor Swift's new album?

After "Cruel Summer" from Lover became Number One on the Billboard Hot 100, Taylor Swift posted a video and some photos with longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff. In the photos Taylor is holding up the number one, while Jack appears to be holding up the number ten. They also seem to be in a recording studio. Since they've collaborated so many times before, it only makes sense they'd work together in the future! Naturally, Swifties have taken the Instagram post as an Easter egg for Taylor Swift's new album.

"Things we know about ts11," one X user posted. "1. Jack antonoff production on some songs 2. Taylor Swift wore really cute outfits while recording it."

Some users are also comparing the decor in the back to future album colors — but only time will tell which details in Taylor Swift's recent posts are Easter eggs, and which are coincidences!

NYU's 2022 Commencement Speaker Taylor Swift

Taylor's known to use a certain amount of punctation marks or emojis as Easter eggs, plus her NYU commencement speech ended up containing Midnights lyrics, so who knows what kind of hidden messages she may be giving us right now with all this street style and pop-up appearances.

But after 15 years of songs that got me through loneliness, unrequited romance, and a solo move to New York, I just know that whatever she has up her sleeve will be exactly what I need in the moment.

We love warm winter cocktailsnot only for their ability to keep us toasty during cold nights but also for their – ahem – somewhat debated medicinal properties (gotta love a spiked drink). The key to making a hot cocktail is to keep it simple! This hot toddy recipe does just that. Seriously, it's only *two* ingredients – if you don’t count the water, that is. Plus, it's tailored for an easy-peasy single serving. Our hot toddy recipe is gonna have you beaming with warmth all winter long. Sip it with family by the fire, and get ready to relish in real coziness.

Ingredients For This Easy Hot Toddy Recipe

We made this single-serve hot toddy recipe easier than your traditional take by nixing the honey and using honey-flavored bourbon instead. So yum! To heat the water, we recommend using an electric tea kettle, but you can microwave or boil the water on the stovetop just as easily. If you like your drinks sweeter, you can add honey, agave, maple syrup, or even Stevia to give each sip a boost.

  • 1 oz Wild Turkey American Honey Bourbon
  • 3 ounces water
  • 1/4 lemon, plus 1 slice for garnish

  1. Boiling water is the longest part of the process for making a hot toddy, so go ahead and get that going first.
  2. Meanwhile, prep your lemon pieces. You’ll want one quarter for squeezing some juice in, and one thin slice for garnishing your hot toddy.
  3. Then, measure 1 ounce of honey bourbon into your cutest mug.
  4. After it's heated up, add 3 ounces of boiled water to the mug.
  5. Finish by adding a little bit more flavor with a squeeze from the lemon wedge.
  6. Top with the thin lemon slice for garnish, and you’re done! Now, it's boozy tea time.
