This 3D Printed Insole Will Make Wearing Heels Hurt Way Less

If your feet hurt from pounding the pavement all day, Kegan Schouwenburg is about to become your new BFF. Kegan is the CEO and co-founder of SOLS, a company we told you about last year that uses 3D materials to create custom and supportive insoles based on a wearer’s biometrics. Thanks to Kegan, every shoe you own could become your most comfortable pair. We chatted with Kegan about her inspiration, her passion for 3D printed technology and her ultimate vision for her company.

The inspiration for SOLS came to Kegan in 2014, when she was working as the Director of Industrial Engineering at Shapeways, a 3D printing company. She had been helping build the company’s production efforts in the United States, which gave her an opportunity to see the incredible impact 3D printing could make on product manufacturing. “I remember thinking: What market is no one looking at? What application is no one addressing? Why is it 2014, and my feet still hurt? Shouldn’t someone have fixed this by now?” Fueled by a passion to solve this problem at a mass scale, Kegan left her position at Shapeways to work on SOLS full-time. “At Shapeways, I was always interested in creating tangible products that spoke to human interests and desires. That same dedication to making the world more beautiful led me to SOLS and serves as my driving force to build a company that will impact others lives,” says Kegan.

Kegan’s interest in 3D printing started long before her Shapeways days. She began experimenting with 3D printing in college and wore orthotics long before then. “I grew up wearing orthotics. Not only were they weird, but they also meant not being able to wear the shoes I wanted to wear,” says Kegan. Customization is central to SOLS’s mission. “I believe that mass customization is how all products will be consumed in the future. More and more consumers aspire to have a product that fits their lifestyle and is curated to their interests.”

SOLS insoles are custom-fit for each wearer. The entire process — from capturing three images of a wearer’s foot through the SOLS app to filtering the wearer’s info through a series of algorithms and sending the product into production — takes less than two weeks. Even better: SOLS are shipped straight to your doorstep. SOLS also works with more than 400 medical providers who use SOLS’s app and technology to prescribe orthotics to patients. For Kegan, this is a step in the right direction to shifting the 3D printing market from novelty to utility. “Things will really start to get interesting when we stop looking at 3D printing as technology for the sake of technology and start thinking about how it can impact the things in our lives that matter to us.”

Kegan says the future of SOLS has many, many legs — not just a custom insole company. SOLS has already made its first foray into custom shoes with ADAPTIV, their vision for the future of footwear. The shoe uses a system of gyroscopes and pressure sensors to move air pressure and fluids within the shoe to support the body’s shifts and motions. “I want the next generation to live in a world where products are custom fit because it just makes sense, and the very thought that we ever put people into sizes is laughable, in the way that carriages were to cars,” says Kegan. “If SOLS can lay the foundation there, then that, to me, is success.”

If you’re in the New York City area between now and June, you can check out the #SOLSonBowery pop-up shop to celebrate the launch of the company’s first consumer-facing app. While you’re there, you can get digitally fitted for your very own pair of customized SOLS. With planned events such as “Martini Mondays” and the “SOLS Run Club,” we suggest that you run, not walk to #SOLSOnBowery. A full calendar of dates, times and details for each event can be found on the SOLS Facebook page.

Are you bold enough to quit your day job to follow your passion like Kegan did? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Decorating your home with cute Target fall decor is fun, but so is adding cute, seasonal shoes to your wardrobe. From riding boots to sneakers to Mary Janes, there are so many cute options to pick from this fall! Trendy Fall Target Shoes

Target

Women's Connor Harness Buckle Ankle Boots

It's no secret: riding boots are the moment this year. These boots are absolutely so trendy, with the chunky heel and exaggerated silver accents. But what I love is that they aren't too much that you can't wear them with a casual look either. All around a 10/10 take on the fall shoe trend.

And if you do want a more exaggerated look? Try the taller version of these riding books!

Target

Women's Claire Knit Washable Ballet Flats

Can someone say Rothy's dupe? Washable shoes are always good, no matter the time of year. I love this woven look paired with the pointed toe — it looks both casual and elevated all at once. These shoes come in four different colors: black, red, cream, and cheetah print.

Target

Women's Sasha Buckle Slingback Kitten Pumps with Memory Foam Insole

Red was in last year, and it's definitely in yet again this year. These slingbacks are the perfect shade of rouge for fall, giving a moodier vibe to your outfit than some of the summer hues we've seen lately. Plus, the double strap and kitten heel duo is extremely in right now. Grab these ASAP!

Target

New York & Company Page 2 Maryjane Flats

Fashion can't stay away from Mary Jane flats and neither can we. They're the epitome of the 'It Girl' fall shoe and come in an array of styles, like New York & Company's mesh style.

They make us want to wear our most stylish fall outfits with them so we can pretend we're extras in Emily In Paris or are attending a NYFW show.

Target

New York & Company Rea Slingback Flats

Give your workwear outfits a boost with these New York & Company Rea Slingback flats! They have a slight block heel that'll give you a little lift and a cute buckle strap that adds the right amount of rebellious flair to whatever you're wearing. Available in black or cognac, you don't have to fret about if they'll match what you have in your closet.

Target

Women's Elsa Mary Jane Ballet Flats with Memory Foam Insole

Seeing red? I know, but I just can't get enough of this stunning color for autumn! Aside from the stylish shade, this square toe Mary Jane is super in at the moment. It's a simple, statement shoe that will make its mark on any outfit you throw together. Tres chic!

Classic Fall Target Shoes

Target

A New Day Ballet Flats

Prefer to keep it simple? Slip your feet into these ballet flats. They have a pointed toe, but your feet won't be cramped in them. They'll be cradled in comfort because the insoles are cushioned, giving you a feeling that you're barely wearing any shoes at all.

Target

Women's Jordan Loafer Flats with Memory Foam Insole

Loafers are ALWAYS in for fall. They're giving that back-to-school, dark academia vibe that just makes you want to grab a cup of espresso and sit in a coffee shop with a good book for hours. Oh? Just me? Well, these are cute regardless of when, where, or how you wear them.

Target

Universal Thread Betsy Clog Mule Flats

Everyone needs at least one pair of comfortable flats in their closet to match those days when you're not in the mood to put effort into your fall outfit. These clog mules are easy to slip on and are neutral enough to go with a t-shirt and jeans look or that new sweatsuit you can't wait to wear. Plus, they're a fantastic Birkenstock dupe!

Target

Wild Fable Kenzi Western Boots

Cowgirl boots still haven't gone out of style, but we wouldn't care if they did. This pair has a nice little side zipper, so you won't have to deal with your feet slipping around. They also have a 2-inch heel and memory foam inside that won't cause you to trip over your own feet.

Target

Women's Janie Ballet Flats with Memory Foam Insole

Can't get the Chanel flats, but want the same sophisticated look? I've got you. These cream and black ballet flats are such a chic look for fall. Pair them with a sweet fall dress, a pair of jeans and a button-down — you name it, and these classic looking shoes will go with it.

Target

Vintage Foundry Co. Penelope Bootie

Want to add a little more height to your boots for date night? Go for these cute boots by Vintage Foundry Co. They're still Chelsea boots, but they're not as casual as the pairs you're used to seeing. You don't have to zip them up either!

Target

A New Day Maddison Sneakers

Want to wear white sneakers that feel like they match fall's vibe? You need to add this pair to your cart. The rounded toe and slight platform shrouds your feet in comfort so you can wear them all day.

Target

Bearpaw Elle Short Wide Boots (Editor's Pick)

This pair of boots helped me survive the last trimester of my pregnancy, so you KNOW they're incredibly comfortable to wear. They're lined with fluffy fabric, so it feels like you're walking on a cloud and they fit over most pairs of leggings and jeans. Honestly, they're the best casual boots you can wear outside of slipping into clog mules! (And yes, they're definitely UGG dupes!)

You don't necessarily have to be Team Jess to agree that life without Milo Ventimiglia's Gilmore Girls spinoff is devastating. The series, which was tentatively called Windward Circle, was supposed to use an episode of Gilmore Girls season 3 when Jess goes to California to find his dad as a sort of backdoor pilot (an episode of an existing show that features a ton of new characters to test if they're well-received). But unfortunately, even though we found the concept wildly entertaining, the CW pulled the plug.

Warner Bros. Television

Considering Milo Ventimiglia is a star, and Jess is so beloved, the fact that Windward Circle never happened makes me just as sad as the idea that Gilmore Girls season 7 wasn't supposed to be the finale! Here's everything you need to know about the series that never was. Sigh.

Why was Windward Circle cancelled?

The CW/The WB/YouTube

Even though Gilmore Girls already introduced the characters we'd see in Windward Circle, according to IMDb, the show was reportedly scrapped because it was too expensive to film in Venice Beach. Stars Hollow is actually part of the Warner Brothers lot so Gilmore Girls didn't have to film on location often. Windward Circle would have been a different story.

What was Windward Circle about?

The WB/The CW/YouTube

The Jess Mariano spinoff would have focused on his relationship with his dad, and his life in California. If you ask me, Jess' witty comebacks and all that leather would have been just as entertaining on a California beach as it was in Stars Hollow.

Although, knowing how much we love a teen drama romance, there's a chance Jess would have ended up with someone besides Rory. I don't know if I could have handled that!

Do we ever see Jess again?

Netflix

Yes! Jess Mariano returns in a few season 4 episodes, and in Gilmore Girls season 6. He also shows up in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, and has a beautiful conversation with Rory that PROVES they're endgame. I will not be taking suggestions!

Were there any other planned Gilmore Girls spinoffs?

Warner Bros. Television

Another idea for a spinoff of sorts involved Rory and Lorelai coming back for another 13 episodes after the season 7 finale. But Lauren Graham told TVGuide in 2007 that she and Alexis Bledel were ready for a break from the insane filming schedules.

"Right now you have me working six to seven days an episode, and Alexis doing about the same," she said. "They tried to make it appealing for us, and we tried to be imaginative, but then at the end of the day it just felt like we were trying to do something impossible."

Tell us your best ideas for a Jess Gilmore Girls spinoff on Facebook!

Fall always puts me in back-to-school shopping mode, even though I haven't stepped foot in a lecture hall in years. My favorite part about this time of year growing up was snagging all of my dream outfits to stun in the school hallways – jeans, tops, and shoes included. Sneakers are dear to my heart in this way, and though I'm (thankfully) not starting another semester, I'm still looking for cute ways to revamp my wardrobe for the upcoming season.

I've been relentlessly browsing for some cool-girl fall sneakers I can take to the streets, and these 11 pairs are currently at the top of my shopping list, and for good reason. All of these fall sneakers are comfort-forward (score!) and match the seasonal vibe perfectly through color and design. Scroll on for 11 styles you'll definitely want to snag for yourself!

Adidas

Adidas Handball Spezial Shoes in 'Earth Strata'

This Adidas silhouette has undeniably earned itself "it-girl" status for how versatile it is. The Handball Spezials are a step up (literally) from the Adidas Sambas since they boast a boosted platform sole. I think this rich brown color complements the fall season so seamlessly, plus the nice, neutral hue supplies lots of opportunities to pair with all of your fall outfits.

SeaVees

SeaVees Acorn Trainer in 'Cloud'

My SeaVees are the comfy shoe I reach for on days I know I have to go out to run errands or meet friends around the city. The soles are super plush, plus the added traction along the bottoms is very appreciated – especially when I have to navigate varied terrain, from uneven sidewalks to grass. The design overall is sporty, thanks to the mixed materials and the signature side stripe on the shoe. This mellow cream white color just screams 'go-to fall sneakers' to me.

New Balance

New Balance 530

A classic! These crisp sneaks from New Balance go with literally everything from sweatpants to skirts – it all depends how you style them. I think their limited color palette sets them up for such easy pairing success. Plus, this signature style is fitted with New Balance's ABZORB midsole, which works to reduce heavy impact through a combination of cushioning and compression. No blisters or foot aches here, even if you're on your feet all day long.

Anthropologie

Gola Race Sneakers in 'Sun'

These sun-yellow sneakers from Gola are a fun riff on the famed Onitsuka Tigers. They share the same sporty stripes and easy lace-up details, plus they're just a very unique color to sport on your feet (as opposed to a basic black and white shoe). These fall sneakers are everything but chunky. They're considerably low-profile, so your step will land fairly flat. They'll look their best with your fave casual outfits, a la graphic tees and baggy jeans.

Alohas

Alohas TB.490 in 'Crochet Burgundy'

Oh, so coquette! These burgundy bad boys boast a very femme lace lining around the top, which immediately helps your footwear look stand out from the rest. I am quite keen on this dark red color for fall, so these land insanely high on my fall fashion wishlist. I adore the contrast between the suede uppers and rubber soles, too. You can also customize these with two sets of laces, included when you buy 'em: traditional laces and ribbon laces!

Free People

Merrell Moab Speed 2 Sneakers in 'Aluminum'

Who says you can't wear hiking shoes every day? There are truly no rules. I think these chunky sneakers could look super chic for all in a gorpcore-styled outfit – think track pants (or shorts!) and a long-sleeve athletic top. If your personal style is sporty by nature, you'll fall in love with all the specs on these shoes. They're fitted with ripstop uppers, a padded collar, a lightweight foam midsole, and Vibram outsoles with plenty of traction. They'll travel so well, from remote trails to your fave post-hike spot in the city.

Nordstrom

Converse Run Star Trainer Sneaker

ICYMI, Converse are cool again. As opposed to the classic high tops I often (very often) opted for in my high school days, these sneakers are obviously very low-profile. And I love 'em for that! They're definitely more elevated than Converse's default canvas sneakers, boasting a blend of suede, smooth leather, and nylon. I love that this style still pays homage to the famous footwear brand through the white star accent on the sides, too. I'd style them with wide-leg pants and a cozy polo-striped sweater for fall.

Keen

Keen Jasper Suede Sneakers in 'Cathay Spice'

I cannot get these fall sneakers out of my head. I need them expeditiously. Though some may think these Keen shoes are a bit too quirky to wear out, they're just the right amount of quirky for me. If you're looking to invest in a pair of sneaks that breaks up the monotony in your shoe collection, these are the ones for you. These suede shoes channel the silhouette of classic rock climbing shoes with plenty of space for the colorful laces and a bold black outsole that wraps around the entire base. They're undeniably sporty – and perform like it – thanks to the contoured fit on the inside, and the durable rubber on the outside.

Madewell

Asics GEL-NYC Sneakers in 'Cream'

The color of these Asics sneakers is aptly named 'cream,' and paired with the varied brown accents, these shoes absolutely remind me of coffee. The outer also boasts a bit of light blue in the tongue logo and cushioned soles, which elevates this pair even more. This fresh mix of neutral colors feels like the perfect fit for fall time – I'd wear them with some dark wash jeans and a bold-colored sweater to really let the shoes speak for themselves.

Veja

Veja V-90 Leather Sneakers in 'White Umber'

These sneakers don't have a ton of extra bells and whistles, which just makes 'em so seamless. I'm a sucker for mixed materials when it comes to fall sneakers, so these are a definite must-have for me. Veja sells a handful of other colorways for this specific shoe design, but I think the brown accent matches the fall season without a doubt. Plus, these shoes are made with sustainability in mind, using recycled materials and environmentally-friendly processes!

Nordstrom

Sam Edelman Sonia Platform Sneaker in 'Midnight Blue'

These sneaks provide a nice height boost to each and every step you take, thanks to the 1-inch platforms. I enjoy how basic these shoes are, so you can pair them with a wide range of outfits. The wide white laces give them just enough edge to make your 'fits stand out. Plus, you get a dose of street cred when you wear them since the brand name is embroidered along the sides.

May 15, 2024 — Rumors Swirl About Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's Alleged Divorce

Though Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have reconnected, there have rumors that their marriage may be in trouble. A source alerted InTouch Weekly that there have been obvious signs that something is wrong for a while.

"The writing is on the wall – it’s over," the source claims before saying, "They’re headed for a divorce – and for once, [Ben’s] not to blame!" The source believes the two have a lot of love for each other, but that they're jus too different to be together.

TMZ has also reported that Ben seems like he hasn't been living at home — yikes! He was photographed leaving going to and coming from a L.A. home without Jennifer. It's also being reported that he's been allegedly spending the night there.

But, TMZ also pointed out that the pair are still wearing their wedding rings so it's hard to say if there's any merit to the breakup rumors. Until Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck actually give a statement, I'm going to cross my fingers and hope for the best! And we're not the only ones — 13 Going on 30's Jennifer Garner (who was married to Ben Affleck from 2005-2015) “is encouraging Ben to work on his marriage to Jen,” according to an Us Weeklysource. “She fully supports their relationship and wants nothing more than for him to be happy.”

Also, Jennifer Lopez wants us to really mind our business. People reported than an actress was not feeling a pushy reporter's question about her marriage and didn't have a problem letting them know. She was promoting Atlas with her co-stars when said reporter asked, "Is your divorce with Ben Affleck real? These rumors?"

Though her co-star Simu Liu expressed his disdain for the questions first, Jennifer quickly said," You know better than that." This lets us know that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are well aware that people are talking about their marriage.

Image via Michael Loccisano/Getty Images for 20th Century Studios

Still, this hasn't stopped insiders from talking about what's going on behind closed doors. One even reached out to People to say, "They’re still living separately," and "She’s back in L.A. for tour rehearsals. She seems okay. She’s very focused on work." The outlet even reported that the couple are in fact living apart and have been seen on several occasions without each other.

While I know some people could care less, I remember when Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck first started dating so to see them struggling again feels a little painful. I'm trying to keep hope alive, but they ultimately know what's going on in their relationship. If they do choose to separate, that's a choice we'll all have to respect.

May 31, 2024 — Jennifer Lopez Cancels Her "This Is Me" Tour

At the end of May, Jennifer Lopez revealed she was cancelling her summer tour to spend time with family. Her newsletter (via Variety) reveals that “Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends." (Refunds will be distributed through Ticketmaster automatically; third party purchase sites need to be contacted).

“I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down," Jennifer continues in the newsletter. “Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time…”

June 21, 2024 — Ben Affleck Discusses Family Life With Jennifer Lopez

In a newly released interview with Kevin Hart, Ben Affleck showed a rare vulnerability that we don't often see. The two chatted about several things during the Season 4 premiere of Hart to Heart, but it was Ben's admission that he has "resting hard face" (via Entertainment Tonight) that caught our attention.

Though there have been theories about why Ben often looks like he'd rather be somewhere else than dealing with paparazzi, he made it clear why he's not always smiling when the cameras are on him. "I also don't like a lot of attention...people see me [and] they're like, ‘Well, this dude always mad…’ Because somebody has their camera and sticking to my face.”

Ben even mentioned a time when he, Jennifer, and their kids were trying to make it to a play while walking through Times Square. Though he knows fans are going to be excited to see them, it's obvious he's not thrilled when their kids are subject to that kind of pandemonium.

"We get out with her, all the kids, through Times Square, and the s--- was like f---in’ bananas...it feels like hundreds of people and now screaming," Ben explained (via People).

August 20, 2024 — Jennifer Lopez Files For Divorce With No Prenup

After months of rumored separation between the two, it seems that Jennifer Lopez has finally filed for divorce from her husband, Ben Affleck, after 2 years of marriage. Many speculated their separation this year, but since Lopez was spotted multiple times with Affleck’s kids, it seemingly put those rumors to rest. But after this filing citing their separation date as April 26, 2024, it seems like any outing was due to those close relationship over the years, and because of Lopez and Affleck’s kids being friends.

TMZ reported about Lopez’s filing, stating that there is “indeed no prenuptial agreement.” This means that they split everything 50/50 from their 2 years of marriage. While TMZ says that the two are not on speaking terms, hopefully the two can seek some peace in this situation in the future!

Swifties are constantly clowning. We honestly can't help it — it's the asylum where Taylor Swift raised us, filled with many maddening easter eggs we're left to decipher one-by-one. And while many of us thought the final night of her London Eras Tour shows would finally give us an announcement for Reputation (Taylor's Version), Miss Swift had other ideas.

On August 20, 2024, Taylor dropped a music video for The Tortured Poet's Departmentsong "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart." Here's what we noticed about the exciting (and very meta) visual addition to her TTPD collection.

When Taylor Swift and boyfriend Joe Alwyn broke up in 2023, it was shocking to watch our fave popstar power through her Eras Tour performances like it was nothing. Sure, we saw her tear up during certain songs, but for the most part, Taylor seemed really strong and resolute and like nothing had even happened.

Cut to the TTPD release: "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" paints a picture of Taylor working through her sadness while she's on tour. She's "a real tough kid" who fakes it til she makes it while the crowd wants more from her, even though she's literally broken hearted.

The upbeat, poppy song — though obviously very sad — has that Taylor Swift catchiness that you just can't shake. So while you feel bad for being that audience member wants more Eras Tour stops or more music videos or more Taylor's Versions, you just can't stop singing along. And neither can Taylor.

In true Taylor Swift fashion, she's constantly able to capture her sadness into a song that reaches the masses in a way many others can't — and she's translated that to her music video, too.

Much like the many Youtube Shorts that accompanied the rollout of TTPD, the "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" music video captures a behind-the-scenes look at Taylor working to craft the newest set of her show. We see rehearsal video after rehearsal video interspersed with actual Eras Tour footage, crowd shots and all.

While my very first thought was that this is yet another clue towards getting a new Taylor Swift documentary (why else would they have all these pro shots of her rehearsals?), there was something else there. This is a song about Taylor giving everyone her everything while she's going through the romantic and emotional ringer — of course the music video would be continued evidence of her doing more of the same.

With every cut of the camera, we see her hard at work, perfecting every aspect of her show with her team. She's putting on the performance of a lifetime night after night after night at the Eras Tour. And the crowds are bigger and bigger, louder and louder, and she always gives them what they want — more.

So while I'm sad we haven't gotten the Reputation (Taylor's Version) announcement yet, I have to say...I'm grateful! This girl cries out in her music that she's constantly trying to do her best, constantly feeling overwhelmed, constantly battling her own feelings. And how lucky are we to get to witness the art that comes out of that?
