How To Rekindle The Spark In Your Relationship

how to rekindle a relationship date night

Did you know that the "spark" in a relationship only lasts just over five years? It takes more than just chemistry to ensure your relationship lasts — you need emotional intimacy, trust, and lots of effort. But even if a spark isn't a sustainable foundation for a relationship, it's still important to make sure that the spark is still a part of the relationship.

If you and your partner are no longer interested in spending time together, or if you're feeling disconnected, that could be a sign that your spark is fading. We talked to Tami Zak, a licensed couples therapist with Grow Therapy, for some tips on keeping the spark in your relationship so it feels fresh and exciting!

Keep Curiosity Alive

Image via Viktoria Slowikowska/Pexels

When you're beginning a relationship, you want to get to know you partner. But even after you know them well, it's important to keep that curiosity.

"You get to know your partner, but there's always something you can learn if you look. That's a big deal," Zak says. "People are always growing and changing. Nobody thinks they're the same person they were one, five, 10 years ago, so check in with your partner with questions that show you are interested."

Zak recommends putting down your phone when you're together, and really focusing in on what they're saying. It's important to show them that you care enough to listen.

Create Desire

"When was the last time you dressed up and went out on a date? Again, think back to how excited you used to get [at the beginning of the relationship]," Zak says.

Make time in your schedule for date nights by adding them to your calendar, and take the time to get dressed up for each other. Whether you're eating a nice dinner out, going stargazing, or sitting in your favorite coffee shop, pick an activity that feels special and feels like you.

"It will fuel the fire in your relationship and do wonders for your own self confidence," Zak adds.

Schedule Time Together

Image via Leah Kelley/Pexels

You don't only need to make time for special date nights — it's important to make time for other things too. "Weekly for at least 30 minutes, try to make it a time where you can both consistently meet," Zak recommends. "Check in about how your partner is and ask them how they're doing and what they are looking forward to. Spend time talking about how you are connecting."

You can also ask each other our Thought-Provoking Questions to go deeper in your relationship, and Zak also recommends The New York Times' 36 Questions.

Prioritize Your Relationship

However you choose to show your partner love, the important thing is that you prioritize them and show them that they're important to you.

"Work, hobbies and friends are important, but your relationship is another level of special, and you should treat it as such," Zak says. "With relationships, you get out as much as you put in. When you stop paying attention, you shortchange yourself, your partner, and your future together."

Sun, sand, and a tan. That’s the ideal summertime itinerary, and there’s *no other* garment that can take you there all the way than a one piece bathing suit.

One piece swimsuits lend themselves to multiple wears, with huge thanks to their versatility – one moment, you’re flaunting a floral one piece, catching some well-earned seaside rays, and another, you’re wearing one under a long skirt to attend the iconic post-beach dinner.

Just like any summer uniform, one piece bathing suits come in a wide variety of styles from ultra-casual to ultra-chic so you always feel fitted. We’ve rounded up our favorites below – scroll and shop for every type of one piece you could ever want – always comfy and cute.

Aerie Sparkle Babewatch One Piece ($33)

Dare to step out in sparkles. This one piece will spice up your summer with its glowy gradient blues and greens! ✨

Parade V-Plunge One Piece ($68)

Make sure you get all that sun with a one piece that lets you show some skin! Take this deep-cut suit from Parade for example – the V shape is insanely flattering.

Kona Sol Pucker Textured Square Neck One Piece ($40)

This suit spruces up your warm weather look with a touch of texture. Alongside the ribbing detail comes a feminine square neckline and some cheeky strap action in the back.

Aerie Wide Rib Cut Out Ring One Piece ($36)

Thankfully, we've moved past the era of boring one pieces. Now you can get your hands on cutout styles that accentuate the *best* parts of your beach bod, such as this darling Aerie design.

Sea Star Cover Swim Coastal Coral One Piece ($245)

Say no to harmful UV rays with a long-sleeve one piece bathing suit. This pick gives you that much-needed coverage while boasting stylish details found in the front zipper and cheeky bottom cut!

Frankie's Bikinis x Sydney Sweeney 509 Ruffle One Piece ($185)

If you're totally tuned in to the cottagecore aesthetic, and can't seem to shop any other way, this one piece was made for you. With this delicate design, beach days become so much more elegant.

Billabong Out Of The Blue Morgan One Piece ($100)

Don some checkers this season – everyone's all over this pattern. Billabong brings us a one piece bathing suit that's on-trend and 100% up for all the summer fun.

Kona Sol Shoulder Tie Medium Coverage One Piece ($40)

The cute shoulder ties on this pick add a subtle pinch of pizazz. We love the tropical florals pictured on the fabric because they reminds us of the latest The White Lotus season – who wouldn't want a taste of Sicilian style?

Beach Riot Joyce Ribbed Cutout One Piece ($168)

You're sure to be in a constant state of joy whenever you wear this swim piece. The vibrant bands of color put rainbows to shame, catching the eye of every passerby at the pool or beach. 👀

Farm Rio Mixed Scarves One Piece ($195)

This eclectic one piece has every good part about vacation pictured on its fabric. Opt for fun graphics like these for a unique getaway look.

Seea Ginger One Piece ($145)

A classic silhouette never fails when it comes to swimsuits. We already gab on about our passion for vintage, and this pick has it *all* with high-cut legs and sculpted bust.

Billabong Otis Sunrise One Piece ($70, was $116)

It's giving surfer girl, and we want in. This sleek suit shows off a unique zig-zag lining along the side, and a bold sun graphic on the front that'll turn heads this summer. ☀️

Toast Solid High Cut One Piece ($90)

Have a ball grabbing this swim style in 20 different colors. That's right – this simple silhouette is available in a ton of different shades so you can find your perfect color match! It's as basic as basic gets, which means there are endless ways to style it!

Out From Under San Tropez One Piece ($85)

The strappy back and highlighted stitching details on this one piece bathing suit emit a futuristic look. The only thing we see in your future is a perfectly lazy beach day in this suit – ice-cold margarita in-hand, of course.

Frankie's Bikinis x Sydney Sweeney Lucia Ruffle One Piece ($185)

Because sometimes you just want to look super girly. This one piece doesn't shortchange on any feminine florals, flirty ruffles, or bright pinks!

PacSun Eco Green Cora Scrunch One Piece ($37)

This pistachio-esque hue *might* just be the color of the summer. Above anything, it's because we're simply obsessed with it. We're also obsessing over this one piece's textured shape and basic cut, since they both make this pick easy to throw on, pre-beach.

Gigi C Charlie Plunging One Piece ($200)

The tiny cutouts on this suit keeps things funky and fresh. Not to mention, the glowing lilac shade recalls the brights of the 80's for the best taste of summer nostalgia.

& Other Stories Frill Bandeau Swimsuit ($79)

Ruffles on ruffles... we wouldn't want it *any* other way. This one piece bathing suit delivers on the cutest details while still being extremely comfy to wear.

Dippin' Daisy's Angelic One Piece ($88)

Angelic, indeed. This one piece bathing suit envelopes you in a form-fitting bodice that explodes into cut ruffle and shoulder tie details.

Aniela Parys Marina One Piece ($158)

The duo-tone colors on this suit shake any look off-kilter, in the best ways. Both shades are neutral, so styling is made easy.

MeUndies One Piece ($78)

The plunging neckline and criss-cross back straps keep your bod in this cute suit at all times, so there's no seaside mishaps, even if a wave's coming right at you. 😬

Visual Mood Arya Reversible One Piece Swimsuit ($135)

Reversible one pieces are a *huge* player in maximizing your wardrobe. On the opposite side of this floral pattern lies an adorable purple-y plaid that can also be sported as a bodysuit under shorts and skirts.

Lucky Brand Seersucker Asymmetrical One Piece ($40, was $128)

This aqua color will go well with this season's sunsets. Lucky Brand's one piece boasts a trendy asymmetrical neckline and textured seersucker fabric!

Black One Piece Bathing Suits

PacSun Eco Black Sunseeker One Piece ($45)

The flirty front cut outs on this pick complement every body, showing some skin and adding visual interest to beachy 'fits.

Skatie The Rachel One Piece ($160)

This black one piece bathing suit is ultra basic, but that's a good thing. The fit is also entirely flattering, no matter your bod.

Summersalt The Sidestroke One Piece ($95)

This piece keeps things interesting with an asymmetrical cut.

Summer Mae Retro One Piece ($35)

This one piece features a low-cut back design so you can get *all* the sun.

Skims Swim Scoop Neck One Piece ($88)

Skims swim designs hold everything together while providing a smoothing effect.

CUPSHE Scallop Trim One Piece ($33)

The scalloped trim on this bathing suit scream beach time!

Shade & Shore One Shoulder Bow Cut One Piece ($40)

We just can't resist a bow detail – this pick from Shade & Shore does it right.

Let's be real — wedding dress shopping is always stressful. Even if you know exactly what you want, there is so much pressure surrounding finding THE dress that the stress can often take away from the excitement of the day itself. Every bride deserves an incredible dress shopping experience, and if you're the Maid of Honor, bridesmaid or emotional support friend there are so many ways to make your bride-to-be feel special on this day. With a little extra planning, you can make her day full of magic and share a great memory for years to come. Give your bride her Say Yes to the Dress moment with these six ideas.

1. Invite a special guest.

Is the bride close to a sister who lives a few hours away? Does she rarely get the chance to have quality time with her mom? Do you share a mutual friend who youknow the bride would love to share the day with, but who doesn’t get a lot of time away from the office? Reach out as soon as you have the bridal appointments booked to see if you might be able to work your magic and bring a special loved one to the occasion as a surprise.

2. Surprise her with a new outfit.

Sneak a peek at your bestie’s closet and take note of her up-to-date sizes, then buy her the perfect outfit for dress shopping — preferably something she would never splurge on herself! A new jumpsuit, cool top, or an awesome pair of heels will give her an extra boost of confidence when she walks into the bridal salon in search of the dream gown.

3. Treat her to a morning of glam.

Hook your bride up with a blowout appointment or session with a makeup artist before the shopping expedition begins. She’ll feel extra-special, and a glam sesh will give her a great preview of what the wedding day will be like.

4. Plan the perfect meal.

Don’t wait until the day-of to stumble on the ideal lunch spot for the group or rely on luck to get a table at your favorite place. Now is not the time to play it by ear. Make a reservation somewhere along your shopping route so you won’t have to wait in line or ask the bride to make a decision on the spot about where the group should eat.

5. Put your phone away.

Chances are that your bride is a little nervous about the possibility of a photo of her in a dress she’s not loving — or, worse yet, the dress she’ll eventually settle on for the big day — circulating via text or on social media. Eliminate this anxiety by keeping your phone in your pocket. You can always grab it again if she asks you to snap a pic. Stashing your screen will also help ensure that your attention remains 100 percent on the bride herself.

6. Let the good times roll.

Who says the fun has to stop just because your pal has said yes to the dress? Last time we checked, the answer is no one. Keep the fun going with a special dinner, a Champagne toast or a cozy night of watching wedding-themed movies (we love Bride Wars) together at home!

You’ve heard of “hot girl walks" — you know, walks that women (and really anyone) can do around their neighborhood, a local trail, etc. while blasting their favorite podcast or music. The entire concept exists to not only encourage womanhood, but to also promote exercise, mental health, and relaxation throughout busy work days. It’s a time to take a breath, get outside, and move your body (all while being a hot girl, of course).

While “hot girl” walks were and stillare all the rage, there’s a new walk in town that is taking over. In the instance of full disclosure, if you love wine, then you’ll certainly hop aboard this exercise trend. “Wine walks” are a new movement on TikTok that still has you taking a leisurely evening stroll, but with a little wine in your cup.

www.youtube.com

Grape Therapy: Love Is Blind’s Bliss & Tiffany

Even The Bachelorette’s and Grape Therapy's Kaitlyn Bristowe endorses a good old wine walk, after pouring an entire bottle of rosé in her 40oz Stanley Cup. To be frank, we aren’t encouraging that you drink above your limits on a regular walk around the block (and we are still hydration girlies, so drink water!!), but a glass or two of your favorite Chardonnay will do the trick.

It’s also a great excuse to hang with friends while simultaneously getting your steps in. These girls joined in on the TikTok trend, claiming they started “rehashing everything for the 10th time” during their wine walk—and BTW, our overthinking brains could not relate more.

Our Favorite Wines For Your Walks

Now that we know what a “wine walk” actually is, it’s time to give our best recommendations for which wines you should be filling your mugs with. If you’re looking for a low calorie, low carbs, and low sugar option — then famous brand co-founded by celebrities Nina Dobrev and Julianne Hough, Fresh Vine Wine, may have the bottle for you (shout out to the Sauvignon Blanc varietal). We also have a list of 27 budget wines to add to your rotation, in case you're a wine enthusiast with a strapped bank account (like most Gen Z and millennials right now).

Woëlffer Estate Summer in a Bottle Long Island Rosé 2022 ($27)

You shouldn't judge a book by its cover...but wine? Wine is fair game, and this Summer In A Bottle Rosé from Woëlffer is just as good as it looks!

Rose Hill Vineyard 2021 Coalescence ($25)

This bottle from Rose Hill is bright, dry, and minerally — perfect for a crisp, evening walk! Plus, it pairs pretty well with just about any food for whatever your post-walk meal may be!

Burgans Albariño Rias Biaxis 2021 ($14)

This affordable albariño is a summer staple. It's a little bolder than the bright Coalescence above, but still easy to sip whenever.

Moselland Green Cat Riesling ($15)

Green riesling? Cat-shaped bottle? Yeah, we're in. This wine looks sweet, tastes sweet, and the bottle upcycles into a sweet vase for all your fresh florals.

Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling ($7)

This juicy, fruit-forward wine is like a sweet treat at the end of the day. Perfect for a luxurious, relaxing walk with your best girlfriends!

Bertrand Cote Des Roses Rose ($13)

Rosé all day is quite literally a hot girl mantra, so you know we had to add more than one to this roster! This bottle from Bertrand is even better after you look at the price tag, too!

Barefoot Fruitscato Peach ($12)

Peach is a quintessential summer fruit, so naturally it makes for a sweet glass of wine throughout the warmer season! You can find Barefoot just about anywhere, so no worries about waiting on a shipment from some far off vineyard!

Gulp Hablo Organic Orange Wine ($23)

Orange wine is all the rage, but it's hard to figure out which "funky" flavor is for you. We think this wine is the perfect starter orange wine with just enough funky notes to ease you into this particular palette.

Fresh Vine Sauvignon Blanc ($19)

Like we said before, Fresh Vine is a crowd favorite! A good sauvy b like this is always light and crisp enough for all your summer walks!

Paint A Room

Paint is my favorite way to update a space quickly and relatively affordably. Whether you’re giving an entire room a paint job or creating an accent wall, paint will make a dramatic difference. Fill all the holes, sand down the wall, and then it’s ready for paint. Shouldn’t take more than a few days, even for a beginner.
