The world of late night TV came to a halt in May when the Writers Guild of America went on strike to demand fair wages from studios — and to protest unfair AI usage. After months of negotiations, as well as delays on Stranger Things 5 and Emily in Paris season 4, the long-awaited end of the writers' strike is finally here and Saturday Night Live is back! We can use a good laugh now more than ever, and the lighthearted pop culture commentary (as well as the more biting satire) Saturday Night Live offers is very, very welcome. Here's everything to know about SNL season 49, including all the SNL hosts, SNL guests, and a brand new SNL cast member. Keep checking back here for the latest news all season!

December 16 will be Billie Eilish's third time at SNL. She hosted in 2019, and then was the host and the musical guest in 2021. This time around, she's joining host Kate McKinnon, who's both an SNL and a Barbie alum. We're ready for an all-out Barbie extravaganza — which should definitely include a performance of "What Was I Made For?"

Unfortunately the SNL lottery for season 49 is closed (it'll open back up next summer!), but you do have the opportunity to do the SNL standby line. The link to apply for standby tickets opens at 10am the Thursday before a show. All you have to do is make a standby reservation for either the rehearsal or live show, and if you get approved, arrive at the 49th Street NBC Studios Marquee between 6pm and 7pm the Friday before a show. Standby cards will be handed out at 12:01am the Saturday morning of a show. You can read the full instructions here. Just make sure your entire party is with you, and good luck!

Yes, Saturday Night Live is back for season 49 on October 13! You can expect more hilarious sketches, musical performances, and (hopefully) some very special guests. The final episode of SNL season 48 aired on April 15 with Ana de Armas as host and performances from Karol G.

There are no cast departures for Saturday Night Live this season. After long-time SNL cast members like Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Melissa Villaseñor, and Chris Redd recently left, we're glad that we won't have to say goodbye to anyone else for a bit.

Anchor Colin Jost, anchor Michael Che and Molly Kearney during Weekend Update on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Photo by: Will Heath/NBC

While no SNL cast members are leaving the show, NBC did add a new face to the cast: comedian Chloe Troast, who's based in New York City. In addition to Troast, the other featured cast members are Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker.

The main Saturday Night Live cast members include Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Punkie Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson, Bowen Yang, James Austin Johnson, and Sarah Sherman.

How can guests appear on SNL during the SAG-AFTRA strike?

Because the performers for Saturday Night Live are under the SAG Net Code (the Network Television Code) instead of the SAG-AFTRA union, they don't have to strike.

Is SNL live November 4 2023?

Host Pete Davidson during the "I'm Just Pete" sketch on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Photo by: Rosalind O'Connor/NBC

November 4 was a dark week on SNL — meaning the cast and crew weren't working on a new episode — following Halloween weekend. Instead, NBC aired the season premiere with host Pete Davidson.

Anyone But You

In the vein of amazing movies like 10 Things I Hate About You, Anyone But You is based on a Shakespeare classic (Much Ado About Nothing) and follows Bea and Ben, who keep running into each other after a horrible first date. When they wind up at the same wedding in Australia, they realize that pretending to be a couple will solve both of their problems — and might just fix the rift in their relationship.

Anyone But You is in theaters now and stars Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell, Alexandra Shipp, and Dermot Mulroney.

Love At First Sight

Speaking of Shakespeare, Love at First Sight has its fair share of A Midsummer Night's Dream Easter eggs — and I loved every minute. Hadley and Oliver hit it off during their plane ride from NYC to London, but when they get separated after their arrival, they wonder whether they missed their chance, or if fate will bring them back together.

You can watch Love At First Sight on Netflix now. The movie stars Haley Lu Richardson, Ben Hardy, and Jameela Jamil.

Your Place Or Mine

Best friends Peter and Debbie decide they need a break from their regular lives and pull a house swap. It also does something no rom-coms dare to do: keep the romantic leads apart until the very last minute.

Your Place or Mine is available to stream on Netflix and stars Ashton Kutcher, Reese Witherspoon, Jesse Williams, and Zoe Chao.

Even though the Bennett family has all daughters (meaning to secure the family estate, they all need to marry well), Elizabeth Bennett is determined to only marry for love. All she has to do is navigate unwanted marriage proposals, jealous gold diggers, and foolish sisters.

When Harry Met Sally

This Meg Ryan film might just be the blueprint for modern romantic movies, if you ask me. Harry and Sally don't really like each other, but after devastating breakups they decide to finally be friends and ask the age-old question: Can men and women really be friends without sex getting in the way?

When Harry Met Sally is on Max and stars Meg Ryan, Billy Crystal, Carrie Fisher, and Bruno Kirby.

Someone Great

Jenny finally has her dream job but has to wrestle with her longterm boyfriend ending their relationship. It's up to her BFF's Erin and Blair to orchestrate the best girls' night out ever. She dreams of a life of adventure and ocean exploration, as she wants to search for mermaids. These plans are thwarted, and she must meet with five suitors who want her hand in marriage. Only one of them doesn't seem to want her royal title and just when she considers giving him a chance, he disappears.

She has a drop of a goddess' blood that gives her magic capable of repelling any attacks. It also just so happens that this power can help unite her fractured nation.

Image via Tumerico

1. Tumerico

Where: Tucson, Arizona

What: Vegetarian Mexican eats by a James Beard Award semifinalist restauranteur

Why: “I was hesitant to try this place since I saw it was vegetarian and vegan—I really love meat—but WOW. This place is good. I got the Ropa Vieja Plate and the Tamale Plate. I’ve had so many tamales, but this was easily one of the top 3 I’ve ever had. I’m not sure how the masa could be so good without any lard mixed in. The vegan carnitas were super flavorful, as well. The person who took my order was really patient and recommended both dishes to me.”

2. Menya Rui

Where: St. Louis, Missouri

What: Ramen noodle heaven

TumericoWhy: “My latest obsession! I’ve practically become a resident. My personal happy dance inducer is the Pork Shoyu ramen with an added egg. The broth deserves a standing ovation. The noodles are handmade in-house with lots of love, making them the rock stars of ramen.”

Image via Sunny Side Kitchen

3. Sunny Side Kitchen

Where: Escondido, California

What: Brunch + cheesy grilled sammies

Why: “Such a cute little shop with the best vibes. Bonus: There are tons of gluten-free options. We split The Works breakfast sammie, and thank goodness we did. It was huge and tasty. The sourdough with the seasoning and cheese on the bread was toasted to perfection and mouth-watering. The tropical, herbal iced tea was so flavorful and well-brewed. The gluten-free, white chocolate raspberry muffin was such a nice treat too.”

4. GS Cafe and Ethiopian Cuisine

Where: Covina, California

What: Traditional Ethiopian food

Why: “The food is just delicious! If you dine in, expect you may be waiting to be seated as the place tends to get full. Food is fresh and finger-licking good. If you’ve never tried Ethiopian food, staff will take time to explain the multiple dishes, how to eat the food, and recommendations. Husband’s favorite dish is the Doro Wot, while mine includes red and yellow lentils and string beans.”

Image via Jesena M. on Yelp

5. Fratellino

Where: Coral Gables, Florida

What: Classic Italian

Why: “The warmth, the charm, the people, the food… this place has it all. Beto is a wonderful host and makes people feel at home, as if you are family. Main courses we tried were the seafood linguini special, the Ossobucco, Lasagna, Fettuccine Papalina, Vitello Ai Tre Funghi, and the lobster ravioli special. All of them were amazing.”

6. BROKEN MOUTH | Lee’s Homestyle

Where: Los Angeles, California

What: Korean-Hawaiian cuisine

Why: “First off, the vibes here are a perfect blend of Los Angeles swagger and charming Hawaiian hospitality. Now, let’s talk about the Beef Plate—a true star on the menu. This dish is a master class in flavor. The beef was cooked to perfection, tender, and seasoned just right. The sauce that comes with it is divine. The sides added a delightful kick that made every bite an experience.”

Image via Adela's Country Eatery

7. Adela’s Country Eatery

Where: Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii

What: Fresh Japanese eats diverting food waste

Why: “Everything we ordered was delicious, but if I was forced to pick, it would be the Lechon Malunggay pasta. Pasta was fresh, everything was flavorful, and there were good portions. Didn’t really have room left but we went for the famous cheesecakes as well. Hot tip for out-of-towners: Order in advance, as it’ll be about a 35–45-minute wait.”

8. Sierra Subs and Salads

Where: Three Rivers, California

What: Delicious deli offerings with national park views

Why: “We visited here right before entering Sequoia National Park—it was the perfect place to get a bite before heading in. My husband and I got the Manwich and the Hollywood Tremor as well as the clam chowder. Everything tasted super fresh and the flavors of both sandwiches were very unique. The Hollywood Tremor had a slight spiciness to it that worked. The clam chowder was also very tasty. Highly recommend!”

Image via Jenny S. on Yelp

9. Gino’s Deli Stop N Buy

Where: San Antonio, Texas

What: Philly cheesesteaks

Why: “We tried their Philly Cheese Steak, Smoke Stack, Rabbi Scott Style [ribeye steak], and Pastrami sandwiches. Everything. Was. On. Point! I’m convinced there isn’t a single bad thing on the menu. And for so many options, that’s impressive for how consistent their excellent quality is across the board. Plus, generous meat portions on every sandwich really set the bar high.”

10. Uncle Af’s

Where: Agoura Hills, California

What: Packed paninis

Why: “Everything I expected and more! We ordered the Burger Panini and the LA Rams Panini. Everything was delicious. Fries and onion rings were hot and crispy, bread was absolutely toasted to perfection, and their sauces were incredible. Can’t wait to go back and try something new. I usually don’t eat sandwiches, much less both pieces of bread, but this was definitely not your average sandwich.”

Image via Haywood Smokehouse

11. Haywood Smokehouse

Where: Dillsboro, North Carolina

What: Texas-style BBQ

Why: “I [came] with a big appetite because this spot nailed every single item. For the mains, the Rack of Ribs and Chicken (tender with a fine crisp to the skin). Gnocchi had a sauce that was dangerously good. And for dessert the Rhubarb Pie—out of this world. Air fryers have truly revolutionized the cooking process, and we'd argue that they're the perfect kitchen appliance! Air fryers offer a healthier alternative to traditional frying methods since they don't use an excessive amount of oil, but they still produce the same crazily crispy result.

"Just like a microwave, you can reheat and cook things easily in the air fryer," says Jennifer West, co-owner of Air Frying Foodie and co-author of Air Fryer All Day. "The difference is the way the food turns out, it always seems better when made in the air fryer. My air fryer has replaced both my toaster, my oven, and my microwave as I toast, cook, and reheat almost everything in the air fryer."

Spruce up your weekly go-to dishes by following these easy air fryer recipes. We've got you covered on all the basics, but the vegan air fryer recipes and healthy air fryer recipes are also 100% worth exploring if you're looking to refresh your busy weeknight meals. Since you can make just about anything in an air fryer, there are even some sweet air-fried treats waiting for you at the bottom of this post. 😉

Whether you're a seasoned air fryer enthusiast or a newcomer to this culinary shortcut, our carefully curated selection of air fryer recipes is sure to elevate your cooking experience and leave you + your fam's taste buds craving more!

What is the best thing to cook in an air fryer?

The best thing to cook in an air fryer is foods that don’t take a long time and are easy to crisp up. Veggies tossed in spices and olive oil, chicken wings, salmon, potatoes, and bacon are all great foods to start with!

What cannot be cooked in an air fryer?

Though the air fryer is versatile, there are still some things you shouldn’t put in it. It’s best to not cook plain cheese, anything with a wet batter, bread, soups, stews, or burger patties.

What is the best meat to air fry?

The best meat to air fry is chicken, especially if it’s an air fryer recipe for chicken wings. But you've gotta cook it right! Co-owner of Air Frying Foodie and co-author of Air Fryer All Day, Rebecca Abbott, offers her expertise in cooking meat in the air fryer:

"Most meats only require a very light brushing of olive oil, which allows for a few things. It helps prevent the meat from sticking to the basket, and helps seasonings adhere to the meat," she says. "Most of the time we use olive oil or avocado oil, particularly because they have a high smoke point, and the flavor doesn’t overpower or alter the meats being cooked."

Can I fry eggs in an air fryer?

Yes, you can fry eggs in an air fryer, either in an air fryer-safe ramekin or foil shaped into a cup shape.

How to clean an air fryer?

It's important to regularly clean your air fryer so it can operate at its highest level. Abbott recommends wiping down the air fryer basket, racks, and the heating element in your air fryer down after every use, once cooled.

Basalmic + Goat Cheese Pizza in the Air Fryer

"We couldn’t decide what’s to love more about this dish — the fact that you can make delicious pizza in your air fryer using store-bought pizza dough (doesn’t get much easier than that!), OR that it gives any restaurant-made version a run for its money," West and Abbott said. Here's how to make this easy pizza recipe!

Ingredients:

  • Avocado or olive oil cooking spray
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil (plus more for the basket if not using cooking spray or parchment paper)
  • ½ medium red onion, quartered and sliced thin (about ½ cup)
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • All-purpose flour, for dusting
  • 1 (13.8-ounce) can refrigerated pizza dough
  • ¼ cup crumbled goat cheese
  • ½ cup packed arugula, stems removed and torn or chopped

Directions:

  1. Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray, olive oil, or parchment paper. Preheat the air fryer to 370°F.
  2. In a medium sauté pan over medium heat, add the olive oil and onions. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onion starts to turn light brown, 1 to 2 minutes. Add the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar and continue cooking and stirring until the onion is golden and caramelized, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and set aside.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 370°F.
  4. Dust a clean work surface with flour and roll out the dough until it is roughly the size of your air fryer basket. Roll the edges inward by about 1 inch to create a crust. Carefully transfer the dough to the prepared basket.
  5. Evenly spread the caramelized onion over the dough. Top with the goat cheese and arugula.
  6. Air fry for 9 to 11 minutes, until the crust is golden brown. Use a spatula to gently transfer the pizza to a cutting board. Slice and enjoy hot! (via Air Fryer All Day)

"Soy sauce and honey are the secret ingredients for these sticky-sweet yet savory skewers. With just a handful of ingredients (and minutes), you’ll have an impressively flavorful main that’s as delicious as it is fun to eat," West and Abbott said. Here's how to make 'em:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound top sirloin steak
  • ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons honey
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic (about 2 medium cloves)
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • Avocado or olive oil cooking spray (optional)

Directions:

  1. Slice sirloin into ¼-inch strips, roughly 6 to 8 inches in length. Thread the steak pieces onto metal or wooden skewers lengthwise. Set aside.
  2. In a shallow bowl or large plastic zip-top bag, combine ¼ cup of the honey plus the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Transfer 2 tablespoons of the sauce to a small bowl and set aside. Add the skewers to the remaining sauce and coat well. Allow the meat to marinate at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  3. Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray or line it with air fryer parchment paper. Transfer the skewers to the basket and air fry at 400°F for 6 to 8 minutes. The meat should be browned.
  4. While the skewers cook, make the glaze. In a small bowl, combine the remaining 2 tablespoons honey with the reserved 2 tablespoons marinade. Once the skewers have finished cooking, brush them with the glaze to coat. Serve immediately. (via Air Fryer All Day)

Air Fried Crème Brûlée

"Between the assumption that you need a culinary school degree to make it and a French degree to spell it, crème brûlée seems like one of those way-too-fussy desserts to mess around with at home. But we assure you that if you’re willing to follow the (very simple) steps, you’ll be rewarded with the most lusciously rewarding dessert we’ve ever come up with," West and Abbott said. Here's how to make this fancy dessert in your air fryer:

Ingredients:

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar, plus more for serving
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Fresh berries, for serving

Directions:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar. Continue whisking until they are well combined and a nice yellow/orange color, 2 to 3 minutes. Set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan over low heat, whisk together the cream, vanilla, and cinnamon (if using). Continue whisking as the mixture begins to gently simmer, then continue whisking for about another 30 seconds. Remove the pot from the heat.
  3. While whisking continuously, gradually pour the cream mixture into the egg yolks. Continue whisking until the mixture is well incorporated.
  4. Preheat the air fryer at 350°F. Divide the mixture between four 4-ounce ramekins. They should be about three-quarters full. Place the ramekins in the air fryer basket and air fry for 6 to 8 minutes, until the mixture is bubbly and still slightly jiggly (it will firm up as it cools).
  5. Allow the crème brûlée to cool before topping with a sprinkling of sugar (about 1 tablespoon per ramekin). You could also transfer them to the fridge to chill for at least 1 hour or up to overnight. When ready to serve, use a kitchen torch or oven broiler to caramelize the sugar until bubbling and browned. Garnish with berries and serve warm or cold! (via Air Fryer All Day)
