While the summer of 2023 (AKA the summer of Barbie and The Summer I Turned Pretty and Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, hello!) is over, there is still plenty to look forward to in 2024. Things are a little bit more relaxed on the new TV show front, which means all my energy can go towards watching as many movies as I can. We've already made our way through this year's winter movies and spring movies, and up next: 2024 summer movies. Keep reading for all the best titles!

Life is all about the little treats that keep you going. For me, it’s either a sweet dessert or a biiig cup of iced coffee – but those purchases can really rack up, especially when I’m making weekly (or TBH, twice- or thrice-weekly) Starbucks runs. I know I’m not alone in wishing there were more Starbucks deals that’d save me a buck or two each visit.

Wish no more – there are actually tons of ways to snag some Starbucks deals. I’ll even dish on how to get free Starbucks right now. Read on for the coolest coffee deals around!

Does Starbucks have discounts?

Yes, Starbucks has discounts often. They usually depend on the day and time you visit, or seasonal offerings that the chain decides to promote. You can easily find Starbucks deals in the Starbucks app, and check back here for current offers!

What is the cheapest thing to get from Starbucks?

If you still want a drink (but want to spend the least amount of money), a kids-sized steamed (or cold) apple juice is the cheapest thing to get from Starbucks at $2.25. Typically, any kids-sized drink will save you some dough!

How does Starbucks Rewards work?

You earn 1 Star per $1 spent at Starbucks for Starbucks Rewards. Once you earn enough, you can spend those Stars on freebies like a drink customization, a hot brewed coffee, or a handcrafted drink like a latte.

1. Look out for flash deals (50% off spring drinks April 9-13!)

Starbucks regularly runs deals that depend on the day and time you visit – you just have to check in the right places. More often than not, they’ll be posted on the Starbucks app.

Right now, they’re offering 50% off a spring beverages (like this refreshing Lavender Lemonade or any new drink from the Starbucks spring menu) when you play their digital Spring it On Scavenger Hunt!

To earn the 50% off coupon, Starbucks Rewards members must earn at least 5 points in the Spring it On Scavenger Hunt between April 9 and April 13. The 50% off coupon will only be redeemable the day after playing the game, between 12-6pm local time. Run, don't walk to take advantage of this deal!

2. Use Starbucks Rewards

Like I mentioned before, the Starbucks app is a pretty easy way to know what deals are going on when. Signing up for Starbucks Rewards will get you on track to get free Starbucks even easier. Their rewards system operates via Stars – you’ll earn 1 Star for each dollar spent, or 2 Stars per dollar depending on how you pay.
  • 25 Stars earns you a free drink customization
  • 100 Stars earns you a free brewed hot or iced coffee or tea, a bakery item, or a packaged snack
  • 200 Stars earns you a free handcrafted beverage or hot breakfast item
  • 300 Stars earns you a free sandwich, protein box or a bag of coffee beans
  • 400 Stars earns you free Starbucks merch (select items only)

If you’re a regular customer, signing up for Starbucks Rewards will definitely pay off! Learn more here.

3. Opt for a personal cup

When you use a personal cup at Starbucks, you receive a $0.10 discount. For regular visitors, those savings can rack up! Furthermore, if you're a Starbucks Rewards member, using a personal cup, you'll receive 25 Stars. Now, you can use a clean (this is key!) personal cup in Starbucks cafes, in the drive-thru, and even when you order ahead on the app.

4. Don't forget about birthday rewards

Starbucks deals also include birthday freebies, in which you’ll get one free handcrafted beverage, OR one free food item, OR one free ready-to-drink bottled bev.

All you have to do to take advantage of the free Starbucks is register for a Starbucks Rewards account and ensure your birthday date is associated with your account, then once the big day comes, show it to your barista. They’ll take care of you!

I love the magic of the movies (my monthly Alamo Drafthouse membership proves it), but there's no other type of movies that do it for me like A24 movies. The studio, made big for their work in film production and primarily, distribution, has been around since 2012 but just recently came to the mainstream with heavy-hitting titles like The Iron Claw, Moonlight, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Whale, Aftersun, and many more.

I've crafted a list of 5 must-watch A24 movies you need to see to understand the hype. A24 movies range from surreal to horrific, and comedic to heartwarming, so there's something for everyone. Let's dive into it!

What is special about A24 movies?

Lady Bird (2017)

There are many things that make A24 movies stand out: stunning visual composition, original style, bold plot lines, mind-bending themes, and their support of indie talent (both directorial and for actors), but most of all, A24 movies are special because they stray from the status quo. The studio has built up a passionate fan base of film-lovers, which also contributes to their reputation.

Does HBO have A24 films?

The Florida Project (2017)

Yes, HBO has over 100 A24 movies available for streaming. The studio struck a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery in December 2023 to bring its entire collection of new releases to HBO, Max, and Cinemax. Any new A24 movies that come out will also be added to the platforms for a set period of time.

Are there any upcoming A24 movies?

Dream Scenario (2023)

Yes, A24 has a lot of movies slated for the future. These are the upcoming A24 movies we know of:

  • MaXXXine (July 2024) – Mia Goth, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon

  • Eddington(no release date) – Emma Stone, Joaquin Phoenix, Austin Butler, and Pedro Pascal

Which A24 movies have won awards?

Moonlight (2016)

A24 has been nominated for 55 Academy Awards with 16 wins total thus far.

  • 2016: Best Actress for Brie Larson’s performance in Room, Best Documentary Feature Film for Amy, and Best Visual Effects for Ex Machina.
  • 2017: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor for Moonlight.
  • 2021: Best Supporting Actress for Yuh-jung Youn’s performance in Minari.

In 2023, A24 gathered more critical acclaim than ever before, being nominated for 18 Oscars. Everything Everywhere All at Once won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. The Whale won Best Actor and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Has A24 made TV shows?

Beef (2023)

Yes, A24 has made a handful of TV shows since founding the studio in 2012. The shows include: The Curse, At Home with Amy Sedaris, Beef, The Carmichael Show, Euphoria, I'm Sorry, Irma Vep, Mo, Mr. Corman, Ramy, and Ziwe.

My Top 5 A24 Movies You Need To See To Believe The Hype

The Whale (2022)

This A24 movie is a total tearjerker, but it's 1000% worth the box of tissues, IMO. The plot introduces Charlie, a morbidly obese English teacher who’s grown to be extremely reclusive and self-destructive due to his appearance and overall mental health.

In the movie, Charlie aims to reconnect with his abandoned daughter, Ellie (Sadie Sink), and we watch their tense relationship develop as Ellie primarily consults Charlie for help on her English homework.

Despite efforts to help Charlie turn his life around – by Liz (his primary caretaker), Thomas (a local missionary), and Ellie – he spirals.

The Whale is an absolute emotional roller coaster of a movie and one of Brendan Fraser’s best works I’ve ever seen. It can be grotesque at times, but no detail, either plot-wise or visually, is in there for fluffing up the timeline.

It’s a must-watch considering its positive critical acclaim with over 20 awards won.

Beau is Afraid (2023)

Beau Is Afraid follows Beau (Joaquin Phoenix), a severely anxious man, and his journey to get back to his mother. He embarks on an unusual odyssey through everything from crime, injury, love, and most of all, grief.

The general tone of the movie is very surreal, and the beautiful visuals and wonky plot line work together to create a sense of wonder.

I really enjoyed Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in this wacky, very A24-esque film, and probably felt every emotion ever while watching it. It ranges from violent to tender, and it’s very intriguing because due to Beau’s anxiety, you can’t clearly tell what’s real and what’s not.

Phoenix was nominated for a Golden Globe for his work with Beau Is Afraid.

Midsommar (2019)

A lot of A24 movies follow an explicitly surreal vibe, and Midsommar starring Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor is definitely no exception. Ari Aster steps in as director for this film, giving it his own twist of horror and dark comedy.

Midsommar centers around dysfunctional couple Dani (Florence Pugh) and Christian (Jack Reynor) who are invited to rural Sweden to celebrate the midsummer festival with some friends with family ties there.

What they don’t know is that they’re essentially staying there with a cult. Aaand things get even more complicated when their friend group gets dosed with psychedelic mushrooms in the midst of the midsummer ceremonies.

Midsommar definitely leans on the creepy and gory side, but I don't think it really eclipses the beauty of the cinematography and compelling storyline.

The Bling Ring (2013)

Written and directed by Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, Priscilla), The Bling Ring is one of my favorite A24 movies. I had a phase of pure obsession once, where I probably watched it 5 times in a month.

The Bling Ring is based on a real story, and it’s just such a period piece, encapsulating the culture of fame and celebrity in early 2010’s Los Angeles with pretty spot-on accuracy. It’s packed with tons of visual details from the zebra-print clothing to the flip phones that speak to the trends of the time. Not to mention, the soundtrack is bomb.

Following a squad of bored, fame-obsessed teens who keep tabs on LA-based celebs from the likes of Paris Hilton and Audrina Patridge to break into their homes while they’re away, The Bling Ring shines a light on the real-life group’s tactics as well as each teens’ obsession with money and fame (and the problems it ultimately causes).

The cast features a stacked ensemble: Emma Watson, Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, Taissa Farmiga, Claire Julien, Georgia Rock and Leslie Mann.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)

Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (who also directed Poor Things with Emma Stone), The Killing of a Sacred Deer is an absurd tale of a family who begins to fall mysteriously ill after they connect with Martin (Barry Keoghan), a boy whom Steven (Colin Farrell) the father of the family had been friendly with since Martin’s father died.

Much like his disruptive role in Saltburn, Barry Keoghan as Martin stirs the pot in an elusive way. This movie is definitely chilling and will leave you wondering the logic of the plot (common with most A24 movies).

Free People does color so well and this is no different! This buttery-yellow tunic could double as a short dress or a fun oversized top to be paired with short denim shorts. We love a versatile item!

These sandals are a dream! They encapsulate the butter yellow trend while also remaining a bit of a neutral color — and they match with so many different outfit combinations! Plus they're going to be so much comfier than your typical heel since they have a shorter, block heel.

The best thing about spy movies is that they make us feel like we, too, could fight bad guys and save the world. And after films like Mission Impossible,The Gray Man, and Kingsman, we're always ready for a brand new spy franchise. This winter, Argylle will bring together some of the best names in Hollywood for an adventure unlike anything we've ever seen. There's action. There's danger. There's a very cute cat. Here's everything we know about the new movie!

Did Taylor Swift write Argylle?

The titular book in Argylle was finally released January 9, but there's a catch: the author is Elly Conway, the lead character in the movie. This pseudonym, as well as some fun details, has led many a Swiftie to believe the real author of the book is Taylor Swift! As TikTok user @theantiquitarian points out, the author's note in the beginning of the novel mentions a "terrible accident that completely shattered my life" (similar to how the 2016 feud led to Taylor's Reputation). Plus, Elly's cat plays a huge role in the story (to say Taylor is famously fond of her cats would be an understatement), and she made the lead in her All Too Well short film an author...

But on February 2, we finally learned who the author behind the spy novel is. Turns out, Argylle was actually co-written by Australian novelist and screenwriter Terry Hayes (who's worked on the Mad Max franchise) and British author Tammy Cohen.

Where can I watch Argylle the movie?

Argylle will be available to stream on Apple TV+ April 12. It originally hit theaters February 2, 2024 (and was the *perfect* winter movie if you ask me), and now it's joining the ranks of our favorite spring movies too!

What is Argylle about?

Author Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) is a introverted homebody who enjoys writing about adventure more than living it. But when her spy novels hit a little too close to home, she gets sucked into the real — and very dangerous — world of espionage.

Who's in the Argylle movie?

The cast for the Argylle movie makes it even more enjoyable to watch! In addition to Bryce Dallas Howard, the 2024 movie stars Henry Cavill, Ariana DeBose, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Dua Lipa, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Is Argylle a comedy?

Yes, Argylle is an action-comedy, and it's also being set up as the first installment of a brand new spy trilogy. Yes, please!

“When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the ’50s,” director Matthew Vaughn tells Variety. “This is going to reinvent the spy genre.”

Is Argylle based on a book?

Argylle is based on a book of the same name (which released in January 2024), and while the real book is also written by Elly Conway, she's not actually a real person. "Elly Conway is the author of the heavily anticipated debut thriller, Argylle. She lives in the United States and is currently working on the next installment in the series," according to Penguin Random House.

The fact Elly is also a character within the movie means there's more to this book than meets the eye — just like A Series of Unfortunate Events' author Lemony Snicket is actually a character within the universe of the books (created by author Daniel Handler).
