This Is the Date Night Outfit and Overnight Bag You Need for an Unexpected Sleepover!

We’ve all had those moments where we realize we’re not going to make it to our own bed for the night, whether it’s because you’re on a date or you’re out with your girlfriends and end the night in an impromptu sleepover. Either way, the next morning can be more than a little awkward when you don’t have anything you need to get through the morning ritual, whether that’s brunch, heading into the office or whatever else your day has to offer. You can’t just go around carrying a weekender bag full of gear for moments like these! But you can step up your game and know exactly how to rock an outfit and overnight bag that is on the DL when you think that there may be a potential for a particularly late night. Here is your guide to orchestrate a solid date night look and repurpose it for the next day without any sign of intending to set up shop for the evening ;)

Everything You Need for Both Looks

LBD Separates: Depending on the cut of the dress, you can get away with a one piece, but you want to make sure the sleeves won’t show under your next-day shirt. We recommend finding a dress with the top and pencil skirt separate so you can interchange the top portion out the next day.

Kimono/Scarf/Shawl: This piece should be big enough to act as an extra layer to wear over your shirt the next day, but also a thin enough fabric that it could serve as a scarf for your date-night outfit — the best way to keep warm without covering your sexy outfit too much!

Small Backpack/Hand Bag: The idea with this piece is that you can either wear it as a backpack for a more casual vibe or hold it as a handbag, which gives off a more classy feel. You don’t want anything too large — that would be a giveaway that you’re packed to spend the night.

Mid-Height Booties: For shoes, it’s best to go for a more chunky mid-height heel, since you will be wearing them back-to-back and won’t be able to ditch the shoes if they hurt your feet. Opt for an open-toe bootie for an even more versatile styling option.

A Wrinkle Free T-Shirt/Tank: Since you’ll be rolling this up into a small space, you need something that can be balled up without wrinkling.

Accessories: The best way to switch up a look is to double down on your accessories. Here you can see there are several different pieces, including bracelets, rings, necklaces, sunglasses and sheer socks (to be layered with the open-toe shoes).

Beauty Bag: Keep it simple and mini. Your makeup bag can get heavy. This is the time to bust out your favorite pieces from your holiday gift sets you may have received and stow them away in a mini beauty bag along with your travel-size toiletry essentials.

Makeup pro tip: Be sure to pack two different lipsticks to make your looks vary — it’s a simple way to switch it up without having too many products in your bag.

Bring Your Date Night Look to Life

For this look I decided to wear these Steve Madden Tildaa Leather Booties ($130) paired with this amazing Black Crop Top + Midi Skirt Sweater Set ($98) from Topshelf Style. This particular dress is a sweater material, so it’s warm and cozy while highlighting your sexy silhouette with cut-out details at the waist. I have all the goods for my next-day outfit packed inside my Mossimo Fringe Backpack Handbag ($30) that I scored at Target! For my makeup and hair, I decided to wear waves that would repurpose well the next day, and I kept my makeup to a pink smokey eye paired with chocolate lip in Melted Chocolate Liquified Lipstick by Too Faced in Chocolate Honey ($21).

Loving the cut-out details on the back of this look as well. Now, on to accessories.

You can see these accessories are simple, yet offer a little pop of color and dress the look up quite a bit. You can really go anywhere with your accessories as long as they make you feel gorgeous! I chose a gemstone and gold theme.

If you get cold you can wear a kimono as a scarf so you don’t have to cover up your outfit. This is also a great way to add a pop of color to your look. This particular piece, which you can see fully in the next look, comes from a line that Joanna Segult custom makes from recycled saris out of India. To inquire for purchase, contact her directly on her Instagram handle @littlehawkthomas.

Beauty Bag Breakdown

This could vary depending on your personal needs, but here’s a list of the general products that I recommend keeping on hand.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mini Mascara ($12): One of my favorites! This travel-size mascara packs a punch for your eyelashes, and that name tho!

Smashbox Double Exposure Travel Palette ($24): A dream palette and little secret — I use this on the daily! Every hue you could need, all in a mini pack.

Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette ($15): Your bronzer, blush and highlighter all up in one little case.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Travel Size ($24): If you can’t find a version of your foundation that’s mini, simply squeeze some of it into a travel-size container.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Highlighter ($42): Not a travel size, but small and compact and works wonders as a concealer.

Sephora Collection Eye Pencil to Go ($6): Any mini eyeliner will do, but this line is priced well and the pigment is great.

Benefit Cosmetics Brow Zings Eyebrow Shaping Kit ($32): You can always take your look to the next level with a little eyebrow love. This mini kit has just what you need and won’t take up too much space.

Sprayco Microban Travel Toothbrush ($2): I love that this toothbrush closes up so the head of the brush is not exposed to everything else in your bag.

Sensodyne ProNamel Gentle Travel Toothpaste ($2): This toothpaste is mini and thinner than most travel toothpastes, and I like that it’s for sensitive teeth!

– Fig + Yarrow Apothecary Face Kit ($74): I pulled out my favorites from this pack and stuffed them in here. Your skincare can always be added to mini containers if you can’t find travel size versions.

Sephora Collection Deluxe Antibacterial Brush Set ($62): I actually packed my full-size brushes, because they don’t take up that much space.

On to the Next Day!

I ended up finding this awesome Cafe S’il Vous Plait Tee by Day Dreamer ($58) from the same boutique I got the dress. It rolls up nicely and wears well with a pencil skirt. Now you can see the kimono in full action. (Psst: this kimono is great to rock solo in the morning while romping around your boo’s house!) You can see how much the shoe region shifted gears by adding a pair of Look from London Walk of Fame Sheer Socks ($13) to the mix! For my hair and makeup, I went a cat eye paired with a bright pink lip in Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick by Too Faced in Melted Candy ($21).

My favorite feature of this bag, aside from the fringe, is that it’s a discreet backpack!

To make this look more casual, I have a pair of sunglasses, some beaded bangles and a glitter fabric hair band to throw my hair up in a half top knot, which is a great second-day hair option.

There you have it! The best thing about the idea behind this look is the approach. You just need to think ahead and get a little creative with your looks. You can switch this up to anything that suits your style as long as you stick to the idea presented here. No more walk of shame going on here, ladies!! You’re welcome ;)

Women like Kristin Cavallariare giving a middle finger to outdated rules like who's allowed to have an age gap relationship or not, and it's refreshing to see. As much as we remember her for her time on The Hills, she's branched out as an author, entrepreneur, and host of the podcast Let's Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari. Speaking of her podcast, Kristin Cavallari doesn't hold back in her latest episode, diving into all the tea surrounding her new boyfriend.

At first listen, her giddy tone is evident and immediately draws you in for the 45 minutes she gushes about the key details that led her to a new relationship. Keep scrolling for a breakdown of the most important things she covered!

How did Kristin Cavallari meet her new boyfriend?

Image via Mike Coppola/Getty Images

We're truly living in a digital age because TikTok is the reason Kristin Cavallari was introduced to her new boyfriend Mark Estes. She told her best friend Justin Anderson that she was scrolling down her timeline when she came across what she called a "boy group" called The Montana Boyz and they both agreed one of them specifically is her type. She said, "He's gorgeous. Like, everything about him is perfect. But, he's also outdoorsy and manly."

Three weeks later, she got a DM from The Montana Boyz that said "I love you" and she immediately let them know she wanted to have them on her podcast. Although the podcast didn't happen, Kristin Cavallari appeared in one of their TikTok videos. Once Kristin Cavallari learned from her assistant that they were planning to move to Nashville, she arranged for a line dancing meet-up with The Montana Boyz and her staff. After they met, Kristin decided to call the guy who would become her boyfriend "Montana." (Cavallari uses Montana as a stand in for her boyfriend's real name during the podcast recording as she never names anyone explicitly on her show.)

Kristin Cavallari hard launched her new relationship with boyfriend Mark Estes on Instagram in February, and the rest is history!

How does she feel about their age gap?

Image via Presley Ann/Getty Images for MTV

Kristin Cavallari didn't know how young The Montana Boyz were, but she wasn't interested in pursuing a relationship with "Montana" at first. She did admit she had a brief issue with their age gap, but decided that "Montana" being 24 while she's 37 doesn't really bother her. Justin pointed out that she actually used to say she wouldn't date guys who were only 30 because she thought they were too young. However, she's more interested in who "Montana" is as a person and notes that life experiences and how you were raised is more indicative of one's maturity level than age alone.

Do Kristin Cavallari's kids like her new boyfriend?

Kristin Cavallari said her boys were so excited to meet "Montana" for the first time and she feels like they really want her to be happy. "I've been really good about separating my dating life from their [life]," she said. Her oldest son especially approves of "Montana" and it's shocking to Kristin because he's usually the toughest judge of whoever she's dating.

How has her career prepared her for public opinions about her relationship?

Image via Terry Wyatt/Getty Images

Kristin Cavallari is at a point where doesn't really care what anyone thinks about her new boyfriend. She's lived life in the public eye and is comfortable enough with herself to make decisions that make her happy. Kristin said, "...when this news came out, it's the first time in my entire life I 100% haven't given a sh-t what anyone thinks... My own mother is noticing a difference in me."

Did she mention anything about her divorce from Jay Cutler?

Image via Timothy Hiatt/Getty Images

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler were married for seven years before announcing their divorce in 2020. She didn't go into detail about it during the podcast episode, but she did talk about the magnitude of her relationship with her new boyfriend. "It's the first time I've gone public since my divorce," she said.

Everyone will always have opinions about a relationship they're not in, but all that matters is Kristin and Mark's happiness.

Where did Kristin Cavallari and her new boyfriend recently go during their date night?

Kristin Cavallari and her new boyfriend Mark Estes were spotted enjoying a fun date night over the weekend. Page Six notes they were seen exiting SUGARFISH — a sushi restaurant — in Beverly Hills. The *hot* couple was sporting ear-to-ear smiles and were holding hands as they strolled down the sidewalk. Mark Estes wore a more casual look while Kristin Cavallari rocked a slightly oversized cardigan, white tank top, and sleek leather pants.

TMZ also shared a clip of the happy couple that confirms who we think Mark Estes reminds us of too — the late actor Heath Ledger. It's the chiseled jawline for us.

How did Mark Estes feel about his first date with Kristin Cavallari?

Don't let his good looks and magnetic energy on TikTok fool you because Mark Estes was a bundle of nerves during his first date with Kristin Cavallari. He made the cute admission to Page Sixand even shared why Krisin Cavallari made him so nervous. He said, "Obviously she’s gorgeous. She’s an amazing person as well, and a great mother. So, yeah, pretty much [the] full package."

Montana Boyz's Mark Estes Says He's a "TRUE ROMANTIC" With Girlfriend Kristin Cavallari | E! News

Mark Estes may be in the spotlight because he's dating Kristin Cavallari, but that doesn't mean he's super enthusiastic about it. E! News caught up with him at the CMT Awards and he said, "It comes with the territory, I guess...It is what it is." One thing his friend Kade Wilcox — another one of The Montana Boyz — mentioned is that Mark is quite the romanticist when it comes to Kristin Cavallari. He told the outlet, "He's pretty good at date nights."

How does Mark Estes really feel about his relationship with Kristin Cavallari?

Kristin Cavallari's boyfriend Mark Estes recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen where he opened up a little more about his relationship with Kristin Cavallari. Andy asked the question everyone is wondering: is this a real relationship?

Mark Estes nodded his head and said, "Yeah, it's as serious as serious gets."

It's festival season, and we're here for all the boho chic style inspo, new music, and FOMO-inducing moments that go down at the best after parties. After years of watching Coachella moments play out on social media, I finally ventured out to the desert for myself.

My very first Coachella was filled with the stuff of festival season legends. By day, I wore my best festival 'fits (and all the SPF) for the debut of Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" and Olivia Rodrigo's surprise performance. By night, I went to dreamy parties at desert mansions and came narrowly close to Taylor Swift at Neon Carnival.

But one of my favorite experiences of all didn't require an exclusive invite or high ticket price — Pinterest's Manifestation Station, the social platform's first-ever (and totally free!) pop-up at Coachella. Keep reading for everything you need to know about the Manifestation Station!

What is the Pinterest Manifestation Station?

It's a pop-up that helps you tap into Pinterest's best trends of the season, thanks to professional stylists and makeup artists on site.

Do you need a ticket for Pinterest Manifestation Station?

Image via Pinterest

No, just join the queue when you arrive to create your best festival look ever. No ticket or entry fee required!

When does the Pinterest Manifestation Station open?

You can visit Pinterest's pop-up from 1pm-9pm on festival days at Coachella Weekend 2.

Coachella Beauty & Fashion Trends For 2024

Image via Pinterest

As always, Pinterest Trends is one step ahead of even the most stylish among us. They're bringing the most aesthetic micro trends to real life, no matter how niche. A team of styling and beauty experts is helping festival-goers lean into the looks we've all been pinning, from light and airy coquette and fairycore to dark feminine aesthetics like Lana Del Rey-core. It's safe to say that everyone looked so fab that I had to get in on it all!

A Coquette Fairycore Makeover

Image via Pinterest

I arrived at Coachella in a light floral set (one of my go-to warm weather outfits) and decided on the spot that I wanted to tap further into the fairycore and coquette aesthetic. The Pinterest team didn't skip a beat in helping me achieve my perfect festival look.

Image via Pinterest

We started with a light blue eye shadow to tap into the sugar plum vibes. As a maximalist who loves a little extra sparkle, I naturally opted into the inclusion of micro pearls to frame my eyes.

Image via Pinterest

Like every Pinterest girlie as of late, I'm still stuck on the Y2K and bow trends. There was a huge selection of bows in every size and color to choose from, but I settled on alternating baby pink and periwinkle. We added butterfly clips to my braids and topped off the look with more pearls in my hair.

Rom-coms are having a moment RN. Between Lindsay Lohan's Irish Wish, Anne Hathaway's The Idea Of You, and Zendaya's Challengers, our hearts are bursting from all the love and romance. But even though romantic comedy relationships are portrayed as #relationshipgoals, many on-screen romances are actually riddled with toxic dynamics and unhealthy behaviors. Christie Tcharkhoutian, professional matchmaker for Los Angeles-based Three Day Rule, revealed to us why four of our fave romantic movie fictional couples should be written off as inspo for you and your S.O.

Juliet and Mark in "Love Actually"

Image via Universal Studios Home Entertainment

Problematic Message: Love is the most exciting when it’s forbidden.

Even if you haven’t seen the romantic comedy, you’ve definitely seen the GIFs: Andrew Lincoln, playing Mark, professing his love for Keira Knightley’s character through handwritten signs, one of which reads the famous line, “To me, you are perfect.” Yes, it’s ultra-romantic — until you look a little closer. “Although we all love an honest display of love, making a play and expressing your love for your best friend’s wife is not a good start for a relationship, on or off screen,” Tcharkhoutian says.

And the most harmful part of these fictional narratives is that they only show a fraction, if any, of the fallout. “This is a toxic dynamic that devalues the dignity of marriage and romanticizes the idea of being in love with someone who is ‘off-limits,’ without portraying the harsh realities of this kind of basis for a relationship,” Tcharkhoutian explains.

Andie and Ben in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days"

Image via Paramount Pictures

Problematic Message: A relationship that began with ulterior motives can become healthy and functional.

There’s no denying that Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are a dreamy pair, but in this movie, their relationship is a nightmare. Their quick rise to love is certainly entertaining, but the foundation of their relationship makes it impossible to exist outside of fiction.

The two meet as means to prove themselves at their respective jobs, and in true rom-com fashion, their supposedly real feelings take off from there. Tcharkhoutian cautions against this behavior in real life. “This can set up a relationship to be something in which a person is objectified as a vehicle to help you meet your needs, instead of a mutual union and partnership with pure and honest motives of loving each other through thick and thin,” she says.

Lucy and Jack in "While You Were Sleeping"

Image via Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment

Problematic Message: Falling in love with the idea of someone can result in a happy ending.

No one can resist a Sandra Bullock romantic comedy, so it’s no surprise this movie is still revered as a classic of the genre. It has all the necessary components: an unrealistic plot (she saves a man’s life, is confused for his fiancée by his family, and then falls in love with his brother while he’s in a coma — like, come on!), a handsome boy-next-door lead and, of course, love. However, much like the relationship in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, the foundation is faulty.

Falling in love with the idea of someone, as Sandra Bullock’s character does, doesn’t equate to falling in love with the actual person, Tcharkhoutian clarifies, and to start a relationship with this basis in real life is ill-advised.

Amanda and Graham in "The Holiday"

Image via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

Problematic Message: True love lies in the next adventure, which is far from your hometown and your past relationship.

Who hasn’t dreamt of traveling to a foreign country; staying in a cozy, remote cottage; and falling in love with someone even half as good-looking as Jude Law? Well, there’s a reason it’s a mere fantasy. Tcharkhoutian describes the phenomenon in The Holiday movie as escapism — the idea that you need to escape from your day-to-day life to find true happiness or, in this case, true love.

Although it’s fun to dream, if taken too far, this particular romantic comedy mentality can lead to irrational expectations. “This escapism mentality can create a false belief that international [relationships] are sustainable in the long-term,” Tcharkhoutian remarks. “True healthy relationships survive and thrive in the everyday, mundane routine, not in the exciting international adventure that depends on thrill and distance.”

Which rom-com couples stay together?

Image via Netflix

However, there are PLENTY of romantic comedy relationships we love! Some of our favorites include Nick and Rachel in Crazy Rich Asians, Matty and Jenna in 13 Going on 30, Harry and Sally in Meg Ryan's When Harry Met Sally, Elle and Emmett in Legally Blonde, and Peter and Lara Jean in To All The Boys I've Loved Before.

What other romantic comedy fictional couples should be on this list? Let us know @BritandCo.

Indulging in a Starbucks coffee is an important ritual for many, but sometimes Starbucks drinks can pack a dense caloric punch. If you're looking to be more mindful of your intake, make sure to reference this list of low-calorie Starbucks drinks!

As a coffee-lover andformer barista, I've curated some delightful healthy, low-calorie Starbucks drinks that still feel special. These alternatives ensure that your next coffee run can be both delicious and guilt-free! Scroll on for some scrumptious (and healthy) sips! ☕️

Black Iced Coffee

If you order a grande iced coffee plain with no Classic syrup, it'll be fewer than 5 calories with 0 grams of sugar. The iced coffee from Starbucks comes with the Classic syrup for added sweetness – the drink comes out to 80 calories and 20 grams of sugar with it included.

Iced Americano

Made with just espresso, cold water, and ice, a grande iced Americano from Starbucks totals 15 calories.

Unsweetened Cold Brew

With less than 5 calories and 0 grams of sugar, cold brew is a great ordering option that still has plenty of caffeine! The Starbucks cold brew is steeped for 20 hours and carries notes of chocolate and citrus. If you like your coffee creamier, just add a splash of your go-to milk.

Nitro Cold Brew

The Nitro Cold Brew from Starbucks is just their regular cold brew infused with nitrogen to create a satisfyingly creamy top layer of crema. A grande size has 5 calories or less and no sugar.

Vanilla Sweet Cream Nitro Cold Brew

If you prefer your Starbucks on the sweeter side, this is the drink for you! The Vanilla Sweet Cream Nitro Cold Brew is topped with vanilla sweet cream that makes the drink a lot creamier and subtly sweeter at the same time. This one clocks in at 70 calories and 4 grams of sugar.

Black Brewed Hot Coffee

A grande plain hot coffee from Starbucks has less than 5 calories, and depending on the featured brew, you'll still get some really yummy flavor notes in each sip.

Hot Americano

A grande plain hot Americano contains about 15 calories, and unlike a brewed hot coffee made with beans, it'll wake you up with strong espresso shots! The grande comes with 3 espresso shots by default, whereas a tall size has 2 and a venti size has 4.

Unsweetened Iced Tea

Starbucks has numerous teas at the ready. You can order iced black tea, iced green tea, and iced herbal teas like the Passion Tango. Unsweetened, each one is 0 calories, plus you can always add your own guilt-free sweetness with Splenda or Stevia.

Unsweetened Hot Tea

Like their range of iced teas, Starbucks' hot teas are available in a ton of varieties and flavors. You can order chai, earl grey, English breakfast, and mint teas hot, and they're so good! Each one, unsweetened measures up to be 0 calories. Add some sweetener and a splash of milk for somethin' a little extra.

Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso

This is by far one of my favorite low-calorie Starbucks drinks. It's sweet and smooth, but doesn't leave me feeling like I'll crash from the sugar afterward. A grande of the Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso has 120 calories and 12 grams of sugar.

Iced Hazelnut Oatmilk Shaken Espresso

Instead of being flavored with brown sugar syrup, this bev gets a nutty dose of hazelnut syrup. For 150 calories and 16 grams of sugar, this low-cal option is worth the splurge.

Starbucks Refreshers

There are three different fruity flavors for the Starbucks Refreshers, and each one is generously low in calories for how flavorful they are! A grande size of the Strawberry Acai has 100 calories, the Mango Dragonfruit has 90 calories, and the Pineapple Passionfruit has 100 calories.

Nonfat Cappuccino

You can order this next option hot or iced, depending on your preferences. Filled primarily with milk foam, getting a cappuccino with nonfat milk significantly decreases the amount of calories from the standard recipe. Plus, yay for espresso!

Skinny Vanilla Latte

Any Starbucks drink that's "skinny" just means it's made with less syrup pumps than the original recipe, nonfat milk, and no whipped cream. You can order most Starbucks drinks "skinny," including lattes. Just note they might not be as sweet or as flavorful as the OG! The Skinny Vanilla Latte is a lighter, lower-cal version that still tastes yum.

Skinny Mocha

Available hot or iced, the "skinny" version of a Starbucks mocha is made with less syrup, nonfat milk, and no whip, which cuts the calories down by a long shot. Chocolatey and coffee-y – what more could you want?!

Flat White

Clocking in at 170 calories and 13 grams of sugar, flat whites are a nice treat that definitely rank lower from typical bevs in terms of calorie count. Whole milk and espresso have never been tastier!

Traveling can be so rewarding; new experiences lend to a broader and more understanding mindset and taking time away from your everyday routine can feel like a much-needed breath of fresh air. Whether you’re headed away on a quick weekend accompanied only by a carry-on, or jet setting on a bachelorette trip to celebrate a lifelong girlfriend, trips are good for the mind, body, and soul.

While the positive aspects that accompany traveling are plenty, it’s completely normal to experience anxiety around this process as well. It’s inevitable that each time you take a trip you’re usually forced to encounter one uncomfortable situation or another; planned or not. Maybe your flight gets delayed, your friend can no longer watch your pet while you’re away, or you get sick just days before heading overseas; the unpredictability of travel can be extremely anxiety-inducing, and we get that.

Instead of leaving you to fly solo to stress about the potential anxieties of any upcoming trips you may have on your calendar, we spoke with California-based mental health professor, Dr. Ishan Shivanandwho has experience in groundbreaking protocols for reversing symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, and more.

What is anxiety?

Dr. Shivanand describesanxiety as "a complex state that can manifest in various forms and intensities, affecting both the mind and the body." He continued, saying, “At its core, anxiety involves feelings of worry, fear, and unease, often accompanied by physical symptoms such as increased heart rate, sweating, trembling, and difficulty concentrating. One way to understand anxiety is to think of it as the mind being overwhelmed by the multitude of thoughts, concerns, and stimuli bombarding it at any given moment. Just like a computer with too many open applications, the mind struggles to process everything efficiently, leading to a sense of being scattered and unable to focus.”

Why do I get anxious when I travel?

Image via Cora Pursley/Dupe

When it comes to anxiety specific to travel, the reason for why you may experience these uncomfortable feelings could be due to a multitude of reasons and can vary in intensity from person to person. Dr. Shivanand shared that travel anxiety could be in part due to “fear of the unknown, fear of safety, fear of flying, control issues, and past traumatic experiences,” as well other areas of anxiety including “separation anxiety, social anxiety, and health anxiety.” Dr. Shivanand went on to explain that, although fun, “traveling often involves stepping outside of one's comfort zone and encountering unfamiliar situations, environments, and people. For some individuals, the uncertainty of what to expect can trigger feelings of anxiety.”

No matter why you experience anxiety related to travel, “It's important to recognize that travel anxiety is a common and valid experience, and there are various strategies and coping mechanisms available to help manage it,” offered Dr. Shivanand. “These may include relaxation techniques, cognitive-behavioral strategies, gradual exposure to anxiety-provoking situations, seeking support from mental health professionals, and planning ahead to minimize stressors during travel.”

How can I control my travel anxiety ahead of my upcoming trip?

  • Plan and Prepare in Advance: “Plan your trip ahead of time to reduce uncertainty,” says Dr. Shivanand. “This includes booking accommodations, transportation, and activities in advance, as well as familiarizing yourself with the destination, and local regulations.” Having a loose agenda of things to look forward to when your trip starts is a great way to get excited when thinking about traveling, instead of stressed.
  • Practice Relaxation Techniques: “Incorporate relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and meditation to calm and center yourself. [Yoga of Immortals] Breathwork and Advance Cognitive sessions can really help,” says Dr. Shivanand. As the founder of the Yoga of Immortals practice, he uses its principles in his everyday life and has seen how it can positively impact the lives of others from a mental health standpoint. However, any type of yoga, meditation, and other similar practices you're familiar with should help.

Image via Andrew Worung/Dupe

  • Create a Checklist: “Create a checklist of essential items to pack and tasks to complete before your trip to stay organized and minimize last-minute stressors,” shared Dr. Shivanand. “Organizing your belongings and documents can also help you feel more in control during your travels.” The simple task of crossing off packing items from a list can feel cathartic and ensure you don’t forget anything essential during your travels.
  • Stay Connected: “Maintain communication with friends or family members before, during, and after your trip,” Dr. Shivanand recommends. “Knowing that you have someone to reach out to for support or guidance can provide reassurance and alleviate feelings of isolation.” News flash, the people you care about care about you too! They’ll be happy to hear from you and walk you through any tough feelings, if need be.
  • Stay Grounded: “Practice mindfulness and grounding techniques to stay present and centered during your travels,” shared Dr. Shivanand. Embrace the ‘pinch me’ moments of your trip as they happen, this is why you’re traveling in the first place after all!

  • Seek Professional Support: “If travel-related anxiety significantly impacts your ability to engage in travel experiences, consider seeking support from a mental health professional,” says Dr. Shivanand. Listen; asking for help is okay, and something that you should do if it will have a positive impact on your life.
  • Incorporate Meditative & Wellness Daily: In doing so, Dr Shivanand says, "One can effectively manage travel-related anxiety and enjoy your travel experiences with greater ease and confidence.” Dr. Shivanand reiterates that “it's okay to seek support and take proactive steps to prioritize your mental well-being during your travels.”
