This year's best new TV shows are shaping up to be dramatic, thrilling, and nearly cinematic. And after a year in Barbieland with Margot Robbie, we're trading hot pink passion for more toned-down shades of drama, sci-fi epics, and romantic movies that will make you swoon! Whether you prefer to see stars like Zendaya and Emma Stone on the big screen or you pick curling up on the couch with a snack every single time, these 2024 movies are the way to go. Some of them are original scripts and some are based on books, but one thing unites them all: you'll be on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Spring 2024 Movies

Spring movies are just one thing that makes me feel refreshed and ready to shed my layers (both in terms of my spring outfits *and* spring cleaning). The common theme throughout all of these 2024 movies is relationships, humanity, and sticking with the people you love. Sounds good to me.

​Dune 2 — In Theaters Now

Dune 2 tackles the second half of Frank Herbert's iconic novel, and brings Florence Pugh's Princess Irulan and Austin Butler's Feyd Rautha into the fold. This 2024 movie has romance, it has tension, and, unfortunately, it also has jumpscare-worthy sand worm popcorn buckets. This is already one of my favorite movies of the year!

Dune 2 is in theaters now. The spring movie stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Josh Brolin, and Rebecca Ferguson.

Damsel — On Netflix Now

While the trailer for this fantasy movie is pretty close to what it delivers, I totally wasn't expecting just how beautiful the filmography would be. The rich jewel-toned aesthetic, deep metallics, and lush setting reminded me of iconic movies like Lord of the Rings, and if you're a fantasy fan, you won't want to miss it.

Damsel is one Netflix now and stars Angela Bassett, Millie Bobby Brown, Nick Robinson, Ray Winstone, and Robin Wright.

Irish Wish — On Netflix Now

If the most important part of a rom-com for you is the chemistry between leads, then you absolutely have to add this 2024 movie to your watchlist. Everyone in this film blends so seamlessly that at times, I forgot I was watching fictional people! Plus, the beautiful Irish backdrop doesn't hurt. Irish Wish hits Netflix March 15 and stars Lindsay Lohan, Jane Seymour, Elizabeth Tan, Ed Speleers, Alexander Vlahos, and Ayesha Curry.

French Girl — In Theaters Now

Vanessa Hudgens is back in this oh-so-French rom-com. The story follows Gordon, who then follows his girlfriend to Quebec when she moves before he can propose. He's prepared for the engagement, but when he gets there, he's not expecting to have to impress her entire family.

French Girl hits theaters March 15 and stars Zach Braff, Evelyne Brochu, Luc Picard, Antoine Olivier Pilon, Isabelle Vincent, Charlotte Aubin, Muriel Dutil, William Fichtner, and Vanessa Hudgens.

Música — On Prime Video April 4

IRL couple Camila Mendes & Rudy Mancuso star in this 2024 movie as Isabella and Rudy. In the film, Rudy, who has synesthesia, is a street performer who feels stuck between his passion for his music and the idea of settling down with his girlfriend. But it's when he meets Isabella that he truly feels a spark. Not only does Mancuso star in this film, but he also wrote and directed it!

Música hits Prime Video April 4, and stars Rudy Mancuso, Camila Mendes, Francesca Reale, Maria Mancuso, and J.B. Smoove.

Monkey Man — In Theaters April 5

Dev Patel stans rise! The actor is back, and this time around he's making his feature film directorial debut (did I mention he also co-wrote the script?). This 2024 movie follows Dev's character, who seeks revenge on a group of corrupt leaders responsible for his mother's death.

Monkey Man premieres theaters April 5 and stars Dev Patel, Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Ashwini Kalsekar.

Civil War — In Theaters April 12, 2024

Ex Machina and Annihilation director Alex Garland is back with Civil War, which takes a group of journalists across a war-torn version of modern America to try and beat a group of rebels to the White House. This might be a dystopian version of the US, but it seems eerily similar to our own.

Civil War hits theaters April 12 and stars Kirsten Dunst, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Wagner Moura, Jesse Plemmons, Cailee Spaeny.

Greatest Hits — On Hulu April 12, 2024

Rom-coms are back and better than ever in 2024, and Greatest Hits follows music lover Harriet as she realizes her favorite songs can take her back in time. She relives her past relationship through her ex's eyes at the same time she's falling for a new love in the present. Let's just say things get messy.

The Greatest Hits is available to stream on Hulu starting April 12. The film stars Lucy Boynton, Justin H. Min, Austin Crute, and David Corenswet.

Sasquatch Sunset — In Theaters April 19

When I learned this spring movie was about Sasquatches, somehow I didn't realize that meant the actors would be walking around the forest in full-size Sasquatch suits. We still don't know all the info on this one but we do know it's about the last family of Sasquatches fighting for their survival. I have no clue what we're in for.

Sasquatch Sunset will be in theaters April 19. The 2024 movie stars Riley Keough, Jesse Eisenberg, Nathan Zellner, and Christophe Zajac-Denek.

Challengers — In Theaters April 26

In this 2024 movie, Zendaya stars as Tashi, who is predicted to be the biggest tennis star ever. But when Tashi gets injured during a match, she has to pivot from player to coach. And who better to mentor than her husband Art? (The answer is also apparently her ex Patrick, who's Art's ex best friend). Strap in folks, this one's going to get messy.

Challengers hits theaters April 26 and stars Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O'Connor.

The Idea Of You — On Prime Video May 2

Harry Styles fans, listen up! This is basically every maladaptive daydreamer's wish come true: 40-year-old Solène (played by Anne Hathaway, because of course she is), starts a relationship with 24-year-old singer Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine) after seeing his set at Coachella.

The Idea of You drops on Prime Video May 2 and stars Nicholas Galitzine, Anne Hathaway, Ella Rubin, and Reid Scott.

The Fall Guy — In Theaters May 3

Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) is a stuntman who said goodbye to Hollywood so he could take care of his mental and physical health. But when his ex's movie is disrupted (AKA, the star goes missing), Colt uses all his stuntman skills to track him down.

The Fall Guy hits theaters May 3 and stars Emily Blunt, Winston Duke, Ryan Gosling, Stephanie Hsu, Teresa Palmer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Hannah Waddingham.

When it's time to break out the bathing suits and spend all day out in the sun, you know it's time to unwind with a summer movie. All these 2024 movies touch on the idea of adventure and exploration, whether it be traveling to a new part of the world or understanding yourself better, which is exactly what summer *should* be about. (Although who am I kidding, so should the rest of the year).

I absolutely sobbed during Inside Out in 2015, and I'm ready to get my heart broken again, TBH. This summer movie builds on all the emotions of the first one with some new additions: Anxiety, Embarrassment, Boredom, and Envy. Welcome to the teenage years.

The Watchers — In Theaters June 14, 2024

2000s darling Dakota Fanning is back in a super creepy story about a group of strangers trapped in a single room together. They don't mind each other's company, but the creatures hidden in the forest who watch them all night? They don't like them quite as much.

The Watchers premieres in theaters June 14, and stars Dakota Fanning, Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouere.

The Bikeriders — In Theaters June 21, 2024

Both Austin Butler and Mike Faist's second movie of the year comes out this June, and follows a group of Chicago bikeriders at the end of the '60s. While the characters are fictional, the movie is inspired by Danny Lyon's 1967 photobook of real riders!

It Ends With Us — In Theaters June 21, 2024

We're FINALLY getting a new Blake Lively movie this summer thanks to It Ends With Us. Inspired by Colleen Hoover's book of the same name, the story follows Lily Bloom, a flower shop owner who's torn between a future with a man she's just met, and one with her first love.

It Ends With Us hits theaters June 21 and stars Blake Lively, Jenny Slate, Brandon Sklenar, Justin Baldoni, and Hasan Minhaj.

Kinds Of Kindness — In Theaters June 21, 2024

Emma Stone is back with her Poor Things and The Favourite director Yorgos Lanthimos for Kinds of Kindness. This movie follows three separate stories across modern America: a man desperately craving control over his own life, a policeman whose convinced his wife isn't the same woman he married, and a woman searching for someone with spectacular abilities.

Go back to the very beginning with this new installment in the A Quiet Place franchise. This story takes place in New York City during the day the Death Angels came to earth. I'll admit I'm nervous to watch this because the last place I want to be during a major emergency is the middle of the city...

A Quiet Place: Day One hits theaters June 28, 2024. The movie stars Djimon Hounsou, Lupita Nyong’o, Denis O’Hare Joseph Quinn, and Alex Wolff.

Twisters — In Theaters July 19, 2024

This 2024 movie will really get your adrenaline pumping. Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos' characters are determined to make history by hunting tornadoes, but the movie also comes complete with cowboy hats, really cool sunglasses, and dramatic scenes in the rain.

Twisters hits theaters July 19, 2024 and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sasha Lane, Brandon Perea, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, and Maura Tierney.

Deadpool 3 (Deadpool & Wolverine) — In Theaters July 26, 2024

This summer movie will officially bring Wolverine into the MCU but there's also a change it'll bring Taylor Swift, which I would *love* to see. When Ryan Reynolds' Wade messes with the timeline, the TVA shows up to set things right. And, naturally, chaos ensues.

Deadpool 3 hits theaters July 26, 2024 and stars Morena Baccarin, Emma Corrin, Brianna Hildebrand, Hugh Jackman, Stefan Kapičić, Matthew Macfadyen, and Ryan Reynolds.

Beetlejuice 2 — In Theaters September 6, 2024

Lady Gaga basically broke the internet when we learned she was joining the sequel to Joker. She'll play Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix's titular character, and I cannot wait to see the electricity between these two — even if it's kind of scary at the same time.

We've seen Paul Mescal everywhere recently (and hopefully we'll see him again soon in Beach Read? 👀), and later this year, we'll see him headline this 2024 movie. He stars as Lucius, the son of the Russell Crowe's Maximus from the first movie, alongside Denzel Washington and Fantastic Four's Joseph Quinn & Pedro Pascal.

Gladiator 2 hits theaters November 22 and stars Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, and Derek Jacobi.

Wicked: Part I — In Theaters November 27, 2024

This 2024 movie is going to be absolutely incredible. It's confirmed this will serve as the first half of the full story (à la Dune 2), but it's unclear whether the movie will end right after Elphaba's "Defying Gravity" the way the first act of the musical does. Either way, I'm fully prepared to cry.

You can watch Wicked in theaters November 27, 2024. The movie stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, and Keala Settle.

Winter Movies We Got In 2024

As far as I'm concerned, winter movies are all about the magic and comfort that we lean into during colder months (both within the holiday season and following it). These 2024 movies were all about brightening up dreary winter days, and all featured seriously bold aesthetics. And thank goodness!

Suncoast — On Hulu

If you love coming-of-age movies, I recommend Suncoast wholeheartedly. (TBH, I recommend it wholeheartedly no matter what). The semi-autobiographical movie follows Doris, who's just trying to make it through high school the same year her dying brother gets checked into an end-of-life facility. This movie is comforting and is an incredibly comforting, complex look at grief, and I loved it from start to finish.

Suncoast is available to stream on Hulu and stars Nico Parker, Laura Linney, and Woody Harrelson.

Argylle — Rent On Amazon Prime Now

For anyone who misses their early 2000s spy era, this winter movie will let you satisfy your desire for adventure without ever having to leave the house. Elly Conway's journey from reclusive author to woman-on-the-run is funny, heartwarming, and just sarcastic enough that it's self-aware.

Argylle is available to rent on Amazon Prime now and stars Dua Lipa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockell, Samuel L. Jackson, Henry Cavill, and John Cena.

Mean Girls — On Paramount+ Now

The original Mean Girls is somehow 20 years old, and this new iteration (based on the Broadway musical) brings plenty of current events, slang, and TikTok trends to the forefront. The whole cast knocks it out of the park and I've had "Not My Fault" stuck in my head since January.

Lisa Frankenstein — Rent On Amazon Now

Imagine if John Hughes had done an 80s version of Frankenstein — that's exactly what Lisa Frankenstein feels like. That's exactly what the campy, colorful, and fun Diablo Cody movie feels like and it is a hilarious (if violent) look at teenage angst.

We don't have an official release date for Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 yet, so feel free to rewatch season 1 as many times as you want ;). Production *did* begin in January of 2024, and considering there was a year between the filming of season 1 and its release, it's safe to assume we'll see Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.

Who's in the Nine Perfect Strangers cast?

Hulu just announced that Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 will star Murray Bartlett from The White Lotus and The Last of Us, Annie Murphy from Schitt's Creek, and Christine Baranski from Mamma Mia. We'll also see Dolly De Leon, Aras Aydin, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, musician King Princess, and Lucas Englander. The latest additions to the cast include our AMC queen Nicole Kidman and A Simple Favor's Henry Golding, as well as Mark Strong and Lena Olin.

There are some pretty big difference between Nine Perfect Strangers and its novel. It seems like they just wanted to up the ante for television viewers because the main differences are in the intensity of scenes or character traits, like Carmel being much more expressive than she is in the book, and the series cutting out a five-day silence. It's super cool to see how Hulu adapted this series — and since it's based on a single book, Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 will feature a whole new plot!

What does the ending of Nine Perfect Strangers mean?

Throughout the series, there are lots of themes of trust and whether or not we're actually able to find happiness as humans. The Nine Perfect Strangers ending during season 1 wraps it up perfectly by leaving happiness as a more open-ended concept full of hope — one that shows it's never outside the realm of possibility, even if it's not a definite guarantee.

Sabrina was suspected to be dating singer Shawn Mendes last year, but he dispelled rumors about it very publicly in March 2023.

Who is Barry Keoghan?

Barry Keoghan is an award-winning 31-year-old Irish actor. He’s well-known for his roles in Dunkirk, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Eternals, and Saltburn. He has also been in several TV series, from HBO’s Chernobyl to Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air.

Barry was previously dating girlfriend Alyson Kieran since September 2021, but the pairbroke up in July 2023 after Barry started seeing success for his performance in the film The Banshees of Inisherin. An inside source close to the couple said “they’ve grown apart over recent months and things have finally come to a head. As far as [Alyson is] concerned, it’s over.”

Barry and Alyson still share a young son named Brando, born in August 2022.

In early February 2024, the duo was seen gettin’ cozy with each other at a Grammys after party. Someone had snapped a pic of them sitting next to each other, but it appeared they were pretty shy about showing their whole faces. Cute!

The couple confirmed their romance just around Valentine's Day with a fun-filled weekend in Los Angeles (with plenty of PDA, of course). They started out with dinner at Nobu before checking into Hotel Bel-Air. They next day, they spent time together at Sabrina's house in Hollywood and then went out on the town in style!

As much as we can tell, Sabrina and Barry are just having fun with it!

The Starbucks summer menu came out in two different phases: the spicy Refreshers launched on April 16, while the boba drinks and more come out on May 7.

Yes – with the new summer menu items, Starbucks officially has boba!

Starbucks has never served boba nationwide before this, but they did test it regionally for a brief period in late 2021. According to Tasting Table, only two Starbucks locations (one in California, one in Washington) tested out coffee boba pearls back then. The pearls were also popping boba (like the new summer drinks), but weren't received super well.

One person that tried the boba drinks in 2021 said the pearls were "really small and awkward to drink." People engaging in online discourse about the coffee boba pearls weren't happy about the attention and revenue the boba could potentially take away from small businesses serving authentic Taiwanese boba.

NEW! Summer-Berry Starbucks Refresher

The Starbucks summer menu lists a brand-new line of iced Refresher drinks, with the Summer-Berry flavor leading! And... it has boba!

This new sip is described as "a sweet summer blend of raspberry, blueberry and blackberry flavors mixed with water, lemonade or coconut milk and shaken with ice." It's poured over raspberry-flavored popping boba, which amps up the berry vibes even more!

This next sip is shaken with lemonade rather than water, which gives it a citrusy, zingy effect. Lemonade is the perfect bev for summertime, and I have a hunch it could pair really well with the raspberry boba pearls!

NEW! Summer Skies Drink Refresher

The Starbucks summer menu is heating up with this creamy drink! This one's essentially the Summer-Berry Refresher with a splash of coconut milk, much like the Starbucks Pink Dink. It also includes fruity boba! Starbucks will begin to supply wider green straws to help you sip up the pearls.

White Chocolate Macadamia Cream Cold Brew

We've seen this drink on Starbucks menus before, and it's made its return for summer 2024, and I am so excited. The White Chocolate Macadamia Cream Cold Brew features "Starbucks signature cold brew sweetened with macadamia syrup, topped with a silky white-chocolate macadamia cream cold foam and finished with toasted cookie crumbles," according to Starbucks.

I feel like nutty flavors are more fit for fall, but it's nice that Starbucks is offering an option for the warmer months with this returning iced coffee drink!

NEW! Orange Cream Cake Pop

The Starbucks summer menu also introduced a brand-new cake pop! The Orange Cream Cake Pop is described as "orange cream cake mixed with buttercream, dipped in chocolatey icing and finished with an orange slice design." The cute orange slice design honestly does it for me. I love an orange Dreamsicle!

NEW! Pineapple Cloud Cake

This new sweet snack is described as an "airy cake layered with a lightweight pineapple cream and pineapple spread with whole fruit pieces all topped with a sweet drizzle." It looks so yum.

The Starbucks summer menu rumors sparked a fair amount of excitement online. A few commenters on @markie_devo's initial menu leak post said the proposed lineup looks appetizing and exciting.

"Now this looks good 💯🔥," one person wrote. "Finally something DIFFERENT," another said.

Some Starbucks fans were anticipating entirely different drinks for the summer menu, like the S'mores Frappuccino that came out in 2019.

"Where's the smores frapp😫," the first comment reads. "Wish they’d bring back the S’mores Frappuccino 😔," another wrote.

Starbucks isn't the first big coffee chain to add boba to their menu. Dunkin' had featured strawberry-flavored popping pearls on their menu back in 2021, and Dutch Bros just debuted their version in February 2024. Some Starbucks customers commenting on the menu rumors noticed this.

"Stole from Dutch lmao," one person wrote. "Dunkin did it first lol. But these are super interesting," another said.

Starbucks Is Doing Something Spicy...

Spicy Dragonfruit Refresher

Rumors about some spicy Starbucks Refreshers were floating around the internet after @markie_devo posted a potential lineup. The first drink (of three new Refreshers) is the Spicy Dragonfruit Refresher. The drink is your traditional fruity Refresher, except shaken with lemonade and a new Spicy Chili Powder Blend to bring a nice kick of flavor!

I got to try it out first thing on launch day, and I have got to say that the spice in this drink somehow makes this the most "dragonfruit" dragonfruit drink I’ve ever had from Starbucks. And it's good! Of course, I expected my sips to be spicy, but I underestimated just how much spice would be included. I personally think it’s such a nice balance between sweet and spicy, but I could see where it may be too much for non-spice-lovers.

The spicy Refreshers will be available for limited time. They were released in stores on April 16, 2024.

Spicy Strawberry Refresher

The Spicy Strawberry Refresher is the most refreshing of all the spicy Starbucks drinks. It's just the OG Strawberry Refresher base shaken with zesty lemonade, ice, fruit bits, and the chili spice blend.

When I ordered the Spicy Strawberry Refresher, I was not expecting it to come out an orange color. Though unexpected, the spice in the drink was spicing nonetheless, and I thought it was pretty good! I had sipped this one first out of all three, but it ends up last in my overall Refresher ranking. I think the other bevs do a better job at highlighting the fruit – in this one, the strawberry flavors were undoubtedly eclipsed by the chili spice blend.

I bet it'd be so heavenly if you ordered it blended with ice, so it becomes a nice slushy texture!

Spicy Pineapple Refresher

I was most excited about this new Starbucks drink because in my opinion, pineapple and spice are a classic combo! I've eaten way too much Tajin-covered fruit in my lifetime, and I hoped for this drink to directly emulate those flavors! And y'all, it DELIVERED. 

​The drink is literally gorgeous. With the spice blend, the Pineapple Refresher takes on a orange-y hue, while the pieces of pineapple float at the top. Upon first sip, it tastes exactly like Tajin-covered fruit. I did notice that a lot of the spice blend sunk to the bottom of my cup, so I had to keep shaking it to mix it up. Not a big tradeoff though, for how deliciously fruity this drink is.

Spicy Cream Cold Foam

Starbucks is also offering Spicy Cream Cold Foam for a limited time. It's crafted with Starbucks classic cold foam and their new Spicy Chili Powder Blend, and you can add it to any iced drink!

I tried the Spicy Cream Cold Foam atop an iced mocha. I had a vision, okay?! I really wanted the chili and chocolate to blend together for a tasty Mexican chocolate feel. I admired the specks of spice in the cold foam before sipping down a swig.

My first impression was that the spice isn't as intense in the cold foam as it is with the Refreshers – it honestly made the drink more enjoyable. The chocolate in the mocha made it so tasty, balancing everything out with lots of sweetness. I think the Spicy Cream Cold Foam could be an amazing addition to other sweet coffee drinks like these for those seeking coffee-based bevs.

Because of the intensity of the spice, I also think the new Spicy Refreshers work best as a slow sipper. I found that when I drank them quickly, the spice became overpowering, and honestly, unenjoyable after a time. I still need to try the Refreshers with alcohol, but I think adding a lil' splash of tequila for an easy summer cocktail is the move. I could take to the park or a friend's place on a nice weekend. 👀 I can tell these are gonna keep me up and goin’ through summer!
