Say What!? This Is What the New Emoji Look Like IRL

If it isn’t already obvious, we’ll take pretty much any opportunity to dress up. Whether it’s actually for Halloween or for no reason at all, our conceptual costume closet is always at the ready. This week, it’s all about dressing up as our fave new emoji! This isn’t a tutorial; this isn’t a think-piece — this is a straight-up “made you look” photo series of Brit + Co employees as emoji. I think we can all agree that it’s been a tough year, and these emoji might just be the best thing to come out of 2016.

Props to stylist Misty Spinney for thrifting her way to the perfect wardrobe pieces and styling each of these peeps up!

I’m seven months pregnant and continue to be basically obsessed with all things BUMP. So when I saw this new pregnant lady emoji I knew what had to be done.

THE PREGNANT EMOJI

The faux mom bob really takes this to a really REAL mom-to-be level.

Forget farming being a male-dominated profession — this emoji says THE FUTURE (FARMER) IS FEMALE. Deal with it.

THE FARMER

Who *doesn’t* jump for joy every time they pick up a bunch of carrots?

This spaceman is very serious. To recreate his look, we enlisted the help of Misty’s son Elijah’s astronaut helmet.

THE ASTRONAUT

Cue up the Daft Punk for this space jam.

This running outfit is pretty on point. And Elena has totally nailed that statuesque running pose.

THE FEMALE RUNNER

Whew, what a workout! It’s tough work to keep your hair perfectly in place while you run.

I personally screamed out loud with joy when I saw not just a male Bowie but a female one too! As someone that really transcended gender lines, it’s great to see multiple options for our favorite late starman.

THE BOWIE-INSPIRED BOY AND GIRL

Put on your red shoes and dance the blues, baby!

Being an artist is similar to being a French girl, obviously.

If you follow along on B+C, you’ve seen and admired our canine model, Turkey Temple (one of my favorite pet names, TBH). He is definitely a turkey by trade but clearly not by species. It seems like an obvious choice, but this was Turkey’s first time dressing up as a turkey for Halloween. Spooky season might be over, but it's *always* a good idea to dress your dog up for Thanksgiving if they don't mind!!

I’ve been making a lot of pet costumes this year, but this one has been high on my list for a long time. With some felt and One-Wrap Velcro, we created this pet costume in no time at all. Does your pet have a goofy name? Try dressing them up as their name, and make sure you snap photos and share them with us on Instagram! Oh, and don't forget to check out our 46 Cute Dogs Guaranteed To Make You Smile, too!

How To Make A Dog Turkey Costume

Tools And Materials:

  • red, orange, yellow and white felt
  • cardboard
  • One-Wrap Velcro
  • pen
  • fabric scissors
  • hot glue gun

Instructions:

1. Draw large, long oval feathers on your yellow felt. Stack the yellow felt on top of the orange felt and cut them both out. Next, draw a curved rectangular shape on the white felt and cut it out.

2. Hot glue the white rectangular shapes to the feathers, then glue the feathers to one another to create a fan shape.

3. Glue a horizontal strip of cardboard to the back of the feathers to help them stand upright.

4. Hot glue a piece of felt to each edge of the feathers and attach a strip of One-Wrap Velcro that is long enough to wrap around your dog’s belly.

5. Cut out a gobble from red felt and attach some One-Wrap Velcro.

Draw 12 long feathers on your yellow felt. Stack the yellow felt on top of the orange felt and cut out your feathers. Cut 12 white curved rectangular pieces to accent the feathers.

Glue the white pieces to the feathers and then glue the feathers to one another into a fan shape.

Attach a long strip of cardboard to the back of the feathers to help them stand up straight once the dog turkey costume is assembled.

Hot glue a piece of felt to each edge of the feathers and attach a strip of One-Wrap Velcro that is long enough to wrap around your dog’s belly.

Draw a gobble onto a piece of red felt, cut it out and glue it to a small piece of One-Wrap Velcro.

Hey Turkey — here’s your turkey costume!

Attach the gobble to your dog by wrapping the One-Wrap Velcro around the collar.

Cutest turkey I ever did see!

Every year, like clockwork, I have a very clear aesthetic shift when we hit March 1. Even if it's still chilly, I'm totally ready to say goodbye to the winter blues and hello to pastels, bouquets, and my personal favorite spring color combo: purple and green. And just like our world IRL, our favorite movies *also* experience a bit of an aesthetic shift. Instead of the boldness of summer movies, the cozy yet edgy quality of fall movies, or the magic of winter movies, these 2024 moviesare as fresh as a bouquet of flowers.

While you're adding some new spring break swimsuits and spring Target dresses to your shopping cart, check out these spring movies! They're fresh, fun, and ready to shake off their winter layers ;). If you're wondering what movies will be in theaters in March 2024, which April movies are headed your way, and what May movies are coming in 2024, stick around and find out. Check out The Best New TV Shows Coming In 2024 too!
