Keeping true to the characters we were introduced to in the first film, Gladiator 2 will focus on young Lucius' character development. He'll be playing a gladiator who's been exiled to fight — similar to Maxmius' fate — and hasn't seen his mother Lucila in over a decade.USA Todayalso reports there'll be a nod to Maximus as young Lucius has great respect for the legacy he left behind.

Who's ion the "Gladiator 2" cast?

Image via Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

Yes! The following notable names are a part of the film's cast:

  • Paul Mescal (from Normal People) as Lucius
  • Connie Nielsen as Lucila, Lucius' mother
  • Fred Hechinger (from The White Lotus) as Co-Emperor Geta
  • Joseph Quinn (from Stranger Things Season 4) as Co-Emperor Caracalla

Image via Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images

We're happy to share that director Ridley Scott will once again make the script of Gladiator 2 come alive for viewers. Aside from directing the first film, this is the same genius man who gave us other cult classics like the Alien franchise, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, Hannibal, and so much more!

Given Ridley Scott's proven film record — and the sneak peek trailer — the resounding answer is YES! Variety reports he said, “It is possibly even more extraordinary than the first...well worth the wait.”

According to USA Today, Gladiator 2 will premiere in theaters November 22, 2024.

There are generally two types of entertainment lovers: those who gravitate toward TV shows and those who adore the movies. For me personally, I find that it's hard to sit still for two hours, watching the characters live through whatever fantasies are being projected, all for it to end exactly as I anticipated before I even sat down in the theater.

TV, on the other hand, is my media of choice. Episodes are fast and dynamic, and the plot is ever-changing. You can control how long you watch, and then return to it at your leisure. Plus, there are countless communities dedicated to your favorite shows.

If you’re anything like me, and are looking for a couple of movies that you and your movie-loving BFF can enjoy together, then you’ve come to the right place. Keep reading for my list of must-see movies for TV watchers, from rom-coms to dramas.

These Rom-Coms Are Definitely Must-See Movies

The Other Woman Official Trailer #1 (2014) - Nicki Minaj Comedy Movie HD

The Other Woman

You can’t go wrong with a 2010’s rom-com, especially when Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton are at the helm. The film follows New York lawyer Carly Whitten (Cameron Diaz) as she falls for suave, handsome Mark King (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).

What Carly thinks is a carefree romance turns out to be an affair when she finds out he's married to devoted housewife Kate (Leslie Mann). Carly and Kate direct their hurt and anger toward Mark, and when they discover yet a third woman (Kate Upton) caught in his web of lies, the three join forces for revenge. It’s cute, punchy and all-too-real for many women, so definitely add this to your watchlist.

Spy Official Trailer #1 (2015) - Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne Comedy HD

Spy

If you’re looking to laugh your a** off, then Spy is a movie I highly recommend. It would be pretty hard to cast Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Rose Byrne and Jason Statham together and not have a box office success, but I digress. The movie follows CIA analyst Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy), who has spent her entire career working hand-in-hand with dashing agent Bradley Fine (Jude Law).

Using high-tech equipment and a hidden earpiece, Susan is the guardian angel who helps Bradley avoid danger. However, when Bradley is assassinated by Bulgarian arms dealer Rayna Boyanov (Rose Byrne), Susan wrangles her way into her first undercover assignment to help capture Boyanov and avenge Bradley.

National Treasure

If you were a self-proclaimed Egyptologist in middle school like me, this is the type of movie I’m sure you’ll love. It follows historian and code-breaker Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage), who has been searching his whole life for a rumored treasure dating back to the creation of the United States.

Joining an expedition led by fellow treasure hunter Ian Howe (Sean Bean), Gates finds an ice-locked Colonial ship in the Arctic Circle that contains a clue linking the treasure to the Declaration of Independence. But when Howe betrays him, Gates has to race to get to the document ahead of his so-called colleague.

Erin Brockovich Official Trailer #1 - Albert Finney Movie (2000) HD

Erin Brokovich

I must admit — I’m a huge documentary nerd. Fictional movies that are adaptations of true events are the closest I can get to an actual doc, and Erin Brokovich is an incredible story worth watching. The film follows Erin Brockovich (Julia Roberts), whose car accident ruins her career.

After pleading with her attorney, Ed Masry (Albert Finney), he hires her at his law firm, where she uncovers some medical records placed in real estate files. She convinces Ed to let her investigate, where she discovers a longtime corporate cover-up that is endangering the lives of local residents.

Also based on true events, the story follows three brilliant Black women at NASA — Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) in the 1960s. These women serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world.

It goes without saying that no salad should cost more than anyone’s hourly wage, but that seems to be where we’re at with things.

Inflation continues to inflate, and I feel the pressure of it every single day. From rent prices (yikes!) to the weekly grocery bill (even bigger yikes!), nearly everyone is tuned into the absurdity of how expensive it is to simply get by.

Consumers are not immune to the crushing financial weight of merely existing and are increasingly hesitant to spend their money liberally, especially atfast food joints. Perhaps this is why many popular chains are promoting deals that allegedly get you more bang for your buck.

Image via Chili's

For example, Chili’s just started targeting fast food lovers by introducing the Big Smasher Burger as part of their 3 For Me menu which includes the sandwich, fries, bottomless chips and salsa, and a bottomless drink for a grand total of $10.99. Their main selling point for the Big Smasher? It has twice the amount of beef as a Big Mac.

Image via Starbucks

Starbucks is also flexing savings on menu items. They’ve significantly increased their rewards cadence over the past months, now offering 50% off drinks every Friday in May. Their US sector saw a 7% decline in traffic in 2024’s second quarter.

Image via McDonald's

Given the expensiveness of it all, it’s no surprise that McDonald’s has plans to step up their affordability game. According to Fox Business, the chain’s been working on their ‘Best Burger’ initiative to bring a “larger satiating burger" to customers for similar prices as what’s already on the menu.

In the same vein, McDonald’s is also reportedly interested in offering a $5 meal deal that could include a McChicken, a McDouble or four-piece chicken nuggets, fries, and a drink. It’s unclear as to when they’d roll it out (or if they actually will), but it’s clear they have their eyes on distant, once-regular customers.

Photo by Marco Fischer / PEXELS

This is appreciated and all, but do we really owe these fast food companies a ‘thank you’? A report from Groundwork Collaborative found that corporate profits accounted for about 53% of inflation in Q1 and Q2 of 2023, compared to 11% of inflation in the 40 years prior to the pandemic. So while prices skyrocket for consumers like you and me, corporations are earning more and more even though production costs for them have “substantially” decreased.

Photo by Ab Kazaam / PEXELS

I get it – completely eliminating dining out is near impossible. I’m not saying that scooping up a little *discounted* treat – or even a regularly-priced meal – every once in a while is a bad thing. It’s just important to remember that these fast food companies aren’t necessarily looking out for you, but instead, their profits.

As you look for ways to economize on fast food and otherwise, take advantage of the many ways you can actually save money. Coupons, birthday freebies, happy hours, and restaurant surveys are just a few methods to navigate the madness. As a certified Dunkin’ girl, you'll still catch me grabbing a bite to eat around town. I'm just hoping we can all catch a break.

After shutting down because of COVID, Hollywood finds itself at another moment in history: for the first time since 1960, both its writers (repped by WGA) and actors (who are a part of SAG-AFTRA) are on strike.

Many workers, actors, writers, and others involved in all the steps of film production are striking in the name of reasonable wages (since streaming has eliminated the majority of residuals) and protection against new AI technologies. A number of in-the-works fall movies have already been delayed, and more are sure to join the list. Here's what been shifted so far.

Challengers

Image via MGM Studios

Challengers, a tennis drama that was set to be Zendaya's next movie, was slated to be one of this fall's best films but was pushed to the spring. First penned for September 15, 2023, we now have an updated release date of April 26, 2024, via Collider.

Beetlejuice 2

Image via Warner Bros./IMDb

Beetlejuice 2 was already mid-production when the strikes began. With a stacked cast (Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Michael Keaton, and Jenna Ortega), we won't want to miss this sequel, but it appears we'll have to wait past the predicted September 2024 release date, according to L'Officiel.

White Bird

Image via Larry Horrics/Lionsgate

White Bird, featuring Helen Mirren and Gillian Anderson, was originally scheduled to release on August 25, 2023. It's now left undated for later this year (likely Q4), according to Deadline. It's looking this fall won't have a ton of new titles, so you'll likely catch us rewatching our go-to summer TV shows at home.

Problemista

Image via A24

A24 was eager to push their latest, Problemista, for a release on August 4 of this year, but due to Julio Torres' (the film's star, director, and writer) participation in the SAG-AFTRA strike, production has fully paused, according to Deadline.

The Untitled Dirty Dancing Sequel

Image via Vestron Pictures/IMDb

We were ready to have the time of our life with the upcoming Dirty Dancing sequel (which has yet to be officially named), but instead of releasing on February 9 of next year, it's now scheduled for a general timeframe of summer 2025. Good thing we can rewatch the original until then!

Poor Things

Image via Yorgos Lenthimos/Searchlight Pictures

Emma Stone's latest film, Poor Things by Yorgos Lenthimos, has also been delayed according to The Hollywood Reporter. Originally intended to release in theaters on September 8, it's now set to come out on December 8, 2023.

Mission: Impossible 8 (Dead Reckoning Part Two)

Image via IMDB

It's been reported that production for the eighth Mission: Impossible installment has stopped, according to SAG-AFTRA's rules regarding stunts while on strike. Its OG release date was June 28, 2024, but we can expect it to be pushed out even further.

Movies That *Might* Be Delayed Due to the SAG-AFTRA Strikes

The Color Purple

Image via Warner Bros.

This movie-musical version of The Color Purple was originally slated for December 20, 2023, but Warner Bros. is reportedly considering pushing it to 2024 according to Variety. Starring icons like Halle Bailey, Taraji P. Henson, and more, this movie is one we don't want to miss – but will totally wait for.

Wicked

Image via Universal Pictures

This iconic tale starring Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, and Cynthia Erivo (originally set for November 2024) was paused in the final days of its post-production, however according to the movie's director, that shouldn't affect the release date.

"Just paused until the strike is over and we can finish the last pieces of the movie. We were only a few days away from being done so we were SO close," director Jon M. Chu tweeted. "It’s been very painful to put a halt to it all but we will be back! And we will finish properly strong when the time is right. My heart goes out to our cast and crew who were cut short of what we came here to complete together. More to come but in the meantime I’m excited to excavate what we have shot for the past year here in Oz (release date shouldn’t be affected). It has been an extraordinary adventure… more to do. "

Dune: Part Two

Image via Niko Tavernise/Warner Bros.

It looks like we might have to wait to return to Arrakis. Variety reported that the Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya film is likely to be pushed out to 2024, instead of its OG release date in November 2023. But things are quite unpredictable, so we'll be following the latest news here.

Lonely Boy — er, I mean Joe Goldberg — was seen filming around New York City starting March 2024, and while there are a few things we do know (like he's returning to Mooney's Bookstore), I'm more concerned with what we DON'T know. "You're considering what, or should I say who, Joe will come up against as he finally returns to New York," Penn Badgley says in the official teaser. "Though I can't say who just yet, we all know there are many loose ends from Joe's past."

Short Abstract Acrylic Summer Nails

If you decide to get an acrylic or gel overlay for a couple of weeks, opt for a shorter style so that you don't have to worry about accidentally breaking them while you're dressed in tenniscore during your friendly pickleball match.

The burnt orange lines and outlines here perfectly complement the flashes of turquoise and brown in this abstract design, making it the perfect choice if you plan to spend your days lounging on Miami Beach. These nail sheets from Amazon are a great option for someone wanting to try this on a budget!

Pops of Magenta Nail Designs

Do you live for a good surprise that's not overwhelming? Me too! It's one of the reasons why I think this summer nail design by Bellacures is the perfect for just that.

It features a light pastel pink nail polish base with two varying magenta dots near your cuticles. While you can easily achieve this look at the salon with a fresh set of acrylic nails, you also don't have to! All you need is a nice white nail polish that's not opaque (it matters) and you're all set! Don't have a steady hand? These press-ons from imPRESS will work just as well!
